Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 117: Quack and Pre-Battle Preparations

After obtaining the [Class Item] and being promoted to [First-Tier], the name of oneʼs profession doesnʼt change.

However, according to internal documents from [Jiangʼan Hall], most [First-Tier] professions have different ”nicknames” among players based on the functions of their Class Items.

For example, [Soldiers] with [Field Rations] are called ”Special Forces,” while those with [Military Rank] are called ”Officers.”

The same goes for [Doctors].

This profession offers two choices: [Medical Kit] and [Syringe].

The [Medical Kit] enhances healing abilities and effects, and can even be used on healthy players in advance—the ”healing” effect remains on them, activating when injured or ill, functioning like a preventive measure.

[Doctors] who choose the [Medical Kit] are often called ”Miracle Doctors.”

The [Syringe], on the other hand, causes ”medical accidents”—worsening injuries, poisoning, or illnesses of those already affected.

Thus, [Doctors] who choose the [Syringe] are referred to as ”Quacks”!

However, after tricking Fu Luo into believing he was a [First-Tier] ”Quack,” Lin Yu realized his ability hadnʼt [Manifested].
Because Fu Luoʼs belief alone wasnʼt enough to create something out of nothing!

But...

Lin Yu didnʼt need to create something out of nothing.

Once certain Fu Luo believed he was a ”Quack,” Lin Yu activated the [Counterfeit] ability!

A rust-stained syringe materialized in his hand.

Seeing this [Syringe], Fu Luo exclaimed,

”Is this your [Class Item]?”

”Of course!”

Lin Yu nodded slightly—and in the next instant...

He felt the hollow imitation [Syringe] in his hand transform into a genuine [Doctor]ʼs [Class Item]!

”As expected, the ʼbeliefʼ required for a [Counterfeit] item to become a [Class Item] is minimal—just one person is enough!”

Lin Yu understood this perfectly.

If he had pulled out an ordinary syringe like when he deceived Chen Zhuo, the difference between a [Class Item] and a [non-exclusive item] would have been too stark, and Fu Luoʼs belief alone might not have sufficed for [Manifestation].

Moreover, veteran players can often distinguish between ”real-world items” and ”game items.”

Fortunately, he now had [Counterfeit].

After this confirmation, Lin Yu was certain:

[Counterfeit] truly allowed him to disguise himself as other [First-Tier] professions!

The taxi slowly came to a stop, and Lin Yu and Fu Luo arrived at the unfinished residential complex called ”Jiuxi Garden.”

The half-built entrance gate, weathered by wind and sun, looked dilapidated, with garbage strewn everywhere.

Though it was broad daylight, the desolate and ruined scene sent an involuntary chill down oneʼs spine.

Especially knowing a ruthless killer with at least five lives on his hands lived inside—Fu Luo even shrank his neck slightly.

”May, when are we calling for backup?”

He couldnʼt wait to summon [Order] right now.

But clearly, Lin Yu had no such intention.

”Wait a bit longer—at least until I start fighting him. Otherwise, we wonʼt get the full bounty,” Lin Yu said seriously.

The bounty points listed in the forum post were for solo kills or captures.

If it was just providing clues or assisting [Order] or the ”Game Master,” the reward would be discounted—only 20% to 70%.

”Iʼm already sharing part with you. If the forum and [Order] take another cut, I canʼt accept that.”

Lin Yu shrugged.

”So, call for backup only after I start fighting.”

”Even if I canʼt win, holding out until [Order] arrives shouldnʼt be impossible, right?”

”Weʼre both [First-Tier], and my [Syringe] isnʼt exactly harmless!”

Hearing Lin Yuʼs insistence, Fu Luo could only nod.

”Alright, then I hope you can hold out!”

Despite his words, a faint trace of worry lingered between Fu Luoʼs brows.

Lin Yu looked at him and patted his shoulder. ”Donʼt worry, no matter what happens to me, youʼll be safe.”

”After all, I wonʼt make a [Detective] like you fight. Just wait downstairs when the time comes!”

Fu Luo looked at Lin Yu, touched.

”Bro, I can really just wait downstairs?”

”Of course!”

Lin Yu nodded earnestly.

As they spoke, the two reached the depths of the complex.

Following the address Fu Luo had uncovered, they soon found the building where Heavenly Artisan had bought his apartment.

From a distance, the building looked as desolate and ruined as the rest of the complex.

But both Lin Yu and Fu Luo were extremely sharp.

Without even checking the apartment number, they could tell someone was definitely living there!

As Fu Luo had mentioned earlier—the ”Locardʼs Exchange Principle”: a living person leaves traces no matter how careful they are.

The dried water stains on the ground, the noticeably cleaner stairwell entrance compared to other abandoned buildings...

And, among all the windows, the only one covered with newspaper—on the fifth floor, east unit.

Lin Yu patted Fu Luoʼs shoulder.

”Wait here. Iʼll go meet that guy.”

”Remember, only call [Order] after you hear my ʼgunshotʼ—if I donʼt fire, donʼt call for backup.”

”Based on your estimate, how long would [Order] take to arrive? And how many people?”

Fu Luo thought for a moment. ”Zheng Cityʼs ʼGame Masterʼ is a [Postman], so he could arrive in as little as fifteen minutes.”

”As for the rest of [Order], theyʼd probably take half an hour at most.”

”Considering Heavenly Artisan is quite high-profile, they might send three or four people, including the ʼGame Master.ʼ”

”But... once [Order] moves, if Heavenly Artisan calls for help, the [Marauders] might rush in too. If other organizations join the fray, it could turn into a massive brawl.”

Lin Yu nodded.

He had expected this—[Marauders], as an organization capable of confronting [Order] head-on, wouldnʼt just stand by if one of their members was cornered.

If they lacked that much resolve, why would anyone risk being blacklisted by the forum and becoming public enemies to join [Marauders]?

Especially for someone as notorious and high-potential as Heavenly Artisan—[Marauders] would definitely put in some effort to protect him.

”Zheng Cityʼs Game Master, the [Marauders]...”

Lin Yu exhaled slowly.

The coming operation was dangerous.

And the danger didnʼt just come from ”Heavenly Artisan”!

Lin Yu knew that after his [Promotion], he and Heavenly Artisan were on the same level.

But... the people Fu Luo mentioned were still far stronger than him.

They might not be as formidable as Tycoon, but his interactions with Tycoon had never involved seeing him fight, let alone fighting him.

At this thought, Lin Yu felt nervous—but also...

A faint excitement!

”What would it be like to see those top-tier players in action?”

”How intriguing!”

Muttering to himself, Lin Yu stepped into the darkness of the unfinished building.
