Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 105: Choosing Class Items, Activating the Tongue of Deceit!

After receiving the two items from [Master of Control], Lin Yu next obtained the rewards for [Threading the Needle].

[Congratulations! You have obtained a non-exclusive item reward: Fear Lens]

[Fear Lens: When used, allows you to see the deepest fear in a personʼs heart. Can be used once per scenario/return.]

[Congratulations! You have obtained a non-exclusive item reward: Active Map]

[Active Map: Generates a 500-meter radius terrain map centered on your current location upon use. Cooldown: 72 hours.]

Looking at these two items, Lin Yu was quite satisfied.

”Both are excellent items!”

These items would be very useful to him.

And next...

The rewards for completing the [Hidden Mission] also arrived.
[Congratulations! You have obtained an NPC item reward: Ancient Notebook]

[Ancient Notebook: An indestructible notebook where recorded information remains permanently. It seems to have other undiscovered uses...]

[Congratulations! You have obtained an NPC item reward: Truth Corporation B3 Access Card]

[Truth Corporation B3 Access Card: In certain scenarios, this card grants you the identity and privileges of a B3-level researcher at Truth Corporation.]

Lin Yu skimmed through these two rewards.

They didnʼt seem entirely useless.

The former appeared to have untapped potential, while the latter would likely be valuable in specific scenarios.

After all, Furbollo had mentioned that ”Truth” Corporation was quite famous, appearing in many scenarios.

After reviewing all the rewards...

The settlement process concluded.

Lin Yu felt darkness engulf his vision once more.

However, this time, he didnʼt wake up back in reality.

Instead, he found himself in a new space.

Unlike the previous void, this white, boundless space resembled an endless room.

Blood-red text appeared before him:

[Promotion Trial 1: During this game, tell each participating player a different lie that absolutely contradicts the others, then use the [Fraudster] class ability to make them ”come true.” Ensure none are exposed or discovered until the game ends.]

[Evaluating... Task completed.]

[Promotion Trial 2: Find the hidden [Fraudster] in this game and expose their deception.]

[Evaluating... Task completed.]

[Congratulations! You have completed this [Promotion Trial].]

Lin Yu exhaled and nodded slightly.

”I did complete it after all.”

Earlier in the [Settlement Space], when the blood text delayed mentioning the [Promotion Trial], he had felt somewhat uncertain.

Unexpectedly, the [Promotion Trial] settlement had its own dedicated space.

The blood text continued:

[Having completed one [Promotion Trial], you are now officially a [First-Tier] player.]

[Detected class: [Fraudster]. Please choose your [First-Tier] class item.]

Lin Yuʼs expression shifted slightly at this prompt.

He had to make a choice?

Two faint white lights flashed before him, revealing two floating items.

On the left was a pitch-black, squirming mask.

[Class Item: False Face: Can freely alter your facial features and adjust your physique within certain limits. Duration: 1 hour. Cooldown: 1 hour.]

On the right was an unstable mass of black, gelatinous substance.

[Class Item: Counterfeit: Can perfectly replicate the appearance of any item youʼve seen. Duration: 1 hour. Cooldown: 24 hours.]

Looking at these two [Class Items], Lin Yu instantly understood why [First-Tier] players held absolute advantages over those who hadnʼt completed the trial.

The benefits of these tailor-made [items] were...

Truly terrifying!

Whether [False Face] or [Counterfeit], combined with the [Fraudster]ʼs existing abilities, they could make Lin Yu several times more powerful!

Not only did they ensure a solid foundation, but they also raised the ceiling infinitely!

While he didnʼt know what other classesʼ exclusive items might be...

Lin Yu guessed they wouldnʼt be weak either.

Precisely because both items were so enticing, he found himself in a dilemma.

”How should I choose between these [First-Tier] class items?” Lin Yu muttered.

The utility of [False Face] was obvious. Based on his experience in this scenario—unless everyone started together and had to stick as a group—it would allow Lin Yu to create multiple fake identities and cycle through several [classes]!

[Counterfeit] was equally powerful—just copy any useful item and use it!

Faced with this choice, Lin Yu hesitated.

Neither was inferior to [Teeth of Prophecy] or [Tongue of Deceit], and neither had usage limits.

”I really donʼt want to give up either...”

But Lin Yu also knew life sometimes demanded sacrifices... or did it?

He decided to take both.

Staring at the blood text and the two items, Lin Yu exhaled and made his decision.

”Alright, this still counts as a form of ʼsacrifice.ʼ”

What he chose to ”sacrifice” was...

One use of [Tongue of Deceit].

”To this day, I still possess the [Game Master] ability from my first game, and it remains active here, allowing me to obtain both class items!”

As this ”lie” left his lips, Lin Yu felt a sharp pain in his tongue.

”Is this plausible enough to directly ʼcome trueʼ?” he wondered nervously.

This was his first time using [Tongue of Deceit], and he wasnʼt sure about the ”upper limit” of what it could achieve.

He was certain statements like ”Iʼll never participate in the [Death Game] again” or ”I am a god” wouldnʼt work.

But whether this claim about obtaining both [Class Items] would succeed remained uncertain!

If it failed, Lin Yu would have to painfully choose between [False Face] and [Counterfeit].

However...

Fortunately, that didnʼt happen.

A surge of ”belief” manifested out of nowhere, and his near-fantastical words [came true].

The glow around [False Face] and [Counterfeit] faded as they entered Lin Yuʼs item storage!

[Congratulations! You have obtained the class item: False Face!]

[Congratulations! You have obtained the class item: Counterfeit!]

Lin Yu let out a long breath.

”Good. This use of [Tongue of Deceit] wasnʼt wasted!”
