We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 345: We Are Willing to Face Death with the General!

Below Yanmen Passʼs north city gate.

Since the great battle began, all the houses had already been cleared out. The common people were temporarily arranged by Xiao Mo to live elsewhere, while the Northern Frontier soldiers moved in nearby to facilitate better deployment.

That night, before dawn broke, the Northern Frontier army issued military orders. Except for the soldiers guarding the city walls, all other soldiers were to assemble at the north city gate.

A soldier named Chen Dong naturally followed the military order and assembled early below the north city gate.

Chen Dong sat on the ground resting, occasionally taking a sip of water.

It was already the thirtieth day of defending the city but there was not a single bit of news from the Northern Frontier armyʼs main force.

Chen Dong didnʼt know if, even if he made it through today, the main force would be able to come support them.

Moreover...

Could he really make it through today?

He hadnʼt eaten for two or three days already, and most critically, he had heard that the city protection formation seemed about to shatter...
Even Chen Dong, an ordinary soldier, knew that the city protection formation was the life of a city.

”General!”

”General!”

”Greetings to the General!”

Just when Chen Dongʼs heart was growing increasingly despairing, the voices of soldiers rang out from not far away.

Chen Dong raised his head to look and saw a man wearing silver-white armor slowly walking toward his direction.

Chen Dong instinctively stood up, watching the general drawing nearer.

His thoughts couldnʼt help but drift, recalling several months ago.

At the beginning, when Chen Dong and these tens of thousands of men were assigned under General Xiaoʼs command, Chen Dong heard quite a few veteran soldiers complaining.

Complaining that this so-called ”Frost Prince,” the ”Northern Pacification Princeʼs third young master,” was far too young.

These veterans felt that Xiao Mo attacking a weak country like Wei Kingdom was nothing special, and his military achievements were probably just gained by following along.

In these veteransʼ view, Xiao Mo could at most only serve as a deputy general, or lead troops to carry out some simple tasks. How could he independently attack cities?

They believed this young general Xiao Mo would lead these people into a ditch.

These veterans even said privately that ”the Xiao Manorʼs third son hasnʼt even grown hair yet, how could he possibly fight battles?”

If not for General Li and General Zhao serving as Xiao Moʼs deputies, those veterans would have trusted Xiao Mo even less. However, after the first major battle at Mati City, Chen Dong clearly felt that more and more veterans were changing their views of General Xiao.

Those veterans began saying things like ”This Frost Prince seems to have some ability, huh?” ”This third young master doesnʼt seem like that kind of pampered young master like the second young master, huh?” ”Seems like this kid is actually capable” and such.

Later on, when General Xiao led the army to break through Mati City, Chen Dong discovered that those veterans were completely speechless.

This young general, the kid they said hadnʼt grown hair yet, conquered these veterans through one battle after another.

And when Chen Dong saw General Xiao several times in the military camp, he also felt a sense of pride in his heart, feeling that he hadnʼt followed the wrong person. Being General Xiaoʼs soldier, he felt honored.

Especially after defending Yanmen Pass, Chen Dong could often see General Xiao staying on the city walls to resist enemy forces.

When General Xiao left the city walls, before long he would lead the Snow-Treading Dragon Cavalry charging into enemy formations again.

Watching General Xiaoʼs valiant appearance on the battlefield, charging in and out seven times, Chen Dongʼs heart surged with excitement!

Although Chen Dong was currently just an infantryman, he couldnʼt help but fantasize that if one day he could be promoted to the Snow-Treading Dragon Cavalry and fight alongside General Xiao, that would be wonderful...

In the time afterward, Chen Dong heard that since defending the city began, General Xiao hadnʼt closed his eyes once, hadnʼt even eaten a single piece of spirit beast flesh. Even when injured, General Xiao didnʼt use spirit herbs or spirit medicine, just simple bandaging, leaving everything for the soldiers under his command.

Chen Dong didnʼt know how to describe it.

In any case, Chen Dong just felt very secure, felt that no matter what happened, the General would not abandon these people, felt that the General would definitely advance and retreat together with these soldiers!

Chen Dong discovered he wasnʼt the only one with this feeling.

All the soldiers defending Yanmen Pass gradually came to trust General Xiao from the bottom of their hearts, unconditionally.

Especially after experiencing these days of life-and-death battles, in the hearts of young soldiers who had only recently joined the Northern Frontier army, General Xiaoʼs prestige had already surpassed His Highness the Prince!

”G-General!”

When Xiao Mo walked beside Chen Dong, Chen Dong called out nervously.

”Mm, these days have been hard on you.” Xiao Mo nodded and continued walking forward.

Standing on the platform ahead, Xiao Mo surveyed the assembled Northern Frontier army soldiers.

And the Northern Frontier soldiers were all looking at Xiao Mo, eagerly anticipating every sentence, every word he would say.

Before long, jar after jar of wine was pushed over on small carts.

The soldiers in the army distributed clay bowls, then poured a bowl of wine for everyone.

”It has been twenty-nine days since we began defending Yanmen Pass. Today is the thirtieth day!”

Xiao Moʼs voice echoed outward. Below the platform, tens of thousands of soldiers all held wine bowls, their eyes burning bright as they looked at the general ahead who shared their hardships.

”To be honest, I donʼt know if the Northern Frontier armyʼs main force will be able to support us tomorrow but I know that since the military orders commanded us to defend for thirty days! Then we must do it!

If we do it, we are worthy of our hearts!

If we do it, we are worthy of Qin Kingdom!

If we do it, we are worthy of the Northern Frontier fathers and elders!

Previously the Zhei army clamored that they would certainly capture us within half a month.

Now, it has already been twenty-nine days.

The facts prove it!

You are all brave warriors! There are no cowards!

You have all done very well...

Now, grain in our city has been cut off for two days, the city protection formation is also about to shatter.

If we continue to stubbornly defend Yanmen Pass, we would merely be letting ourselves be slaughtered.

So should we surrender? Do we have nothing left?

No!

We still have our lives!

Today, our Northern Frontier army will have one final battle with the Zhei Kingdom! Use our flesh and blood to defend this last day!

In this battle, you will all face nine deaths and one survival.

If anyone wants to leave, I donʼt blame them, because in these twenty-nine days, they have already done everything.

Not to mention there are over ten thousand local men from Yanmen Pass who joined our army. They have wives and children in the city.

Those who want to leave, just go. We are still comrades, brothers!

But!

If there are those who want to die! Step forward!”

”Thud!”

As Xiao Moʼs words landed, the Northern Frontier armyʼs total of five thousand two hundred twenty-three Snow-Treading Dragon Cavalry and twenty-five thousand four hundred twenty soldiers all stepped forward together. Not one person retreated.

Looking at the thirty thousand soldiers standing solemnly, Xiao Mo raised his wine bowl, ”Xiao Mo! Requests that you all face death with me!”

Thirty thousand people shouted in unison, their voices piercing the clouds:

”We are willing to face death with the General!”
