Chapter 301: Moʼer Is So Amazing, Moʼer Is Really So Capable

As time passed day by day.

Since birth, Xiao Mo spent every day either sleeping or eating.

The main tasks of an infant were eating and sleeping.

Xiao Mo also wanted to stay awake for longer periods, to learn more about the Xiao Manor through the conversations between his mother and Cuicui but every time Xiao Mo woke up, he would feel drowsy after just a short while. There was really nothing he could do about it.

What it meant to have the sleep of a baby, this time Xiao Mo had gained a profound understanding.

Moreover, Xiao Mo could clearly feel his body growing rapidly, almost changing day by day.

Besides this, when Xiao Mo was first born, his vision was completely blurred but gradually, Xiao Mo could see things clearly within about twenty inches.

Two months later, Xiao Mo could make ”gege” and ”gugu” sounds, no longer just crying ”waa waa waa.”

Xiao Mo tried to see if he could perform some actions that exceeded his age but very soon, Xiao Mo discovered he was overthinking it.

An infant had its own limitations.
To truly tame this young body was indeed not an easy task and it was at this time that Xiao Mo discovered he could control some of his facial expressions. He could smile now.

One morning, when Zhou Ruoxi was playing with her child, Xiao Mo waved his little hands continuously and let out ”gege gege” sounds of laughter.

Zhou Ruoxi was slightly stunned, then brilliant joy flashed in her eyes.

”Cuicui, come here quickly and look, Moʼer can smile now,” Zhou Ruoxi called out happily to the maid.

Cuicui, upon hearing this, quickly ran in, ”Madam, really? Young Master can smile now?”

”Yes.” Zhou Ruoxi nodded, using a small bell to play with the child as she said gently, ”Moʼer, come, smile for your Aunt Cui.”

”Gege gege.” Xiao Moʼs little hands grasped randomly as he let out crisp laughter.

”Young Master really can smile now. Young Master looks so good when he smiles.”

The maid Cuicui leaned against the cradleʼs edge, happily poking Xiao Moʼs cheek.

Although it was just something as simple as ”smiling,” for this young mother and the maid, it was like discovering a treasure.

Another two months passed, and Xiao Mo was already four months old.

At this time, Xiao Moʼs vision was almost no different from an adultʼs, and Xiao Mo discovered he finally had the strength to turn over.

Not only could he turn over, he could even lie on his stomach and it was also starting from this time that Xiao Mo discovered his strength seemed a bit unusual.

In Xiao Moʼs view, his strength seemed somewhat great for his age.

To call it divine strength from birth would be an exaggeration, but it was certainly stronger and more robust than ordinary infants of the same age.

In the sixth month after birth, Xiao Mo tried crawling and succeeded very smoothly.

”Moʼer, work hard. Mother is right here. Crawl into Motherʼs embrace. Moʼer, take it slowly.”

Ever since Zhou Ruoxi discovered that her Moʼer could crawl, she would occasionally clap her hands at Xiao Mo, having him crawl toward her.

At these times, Xiao Mo would also work very hard to crawl toward his mother.

When Xiao Mo crawled to his motherʼs side, the young mother would pick Xiao Mo up, then happily kiss him and say with pride, ”Moʼer is so great!”

Generally when he had nothing to do, Xiao Mo would also crawl back and forth on the bed, which could be considered laying a foundation for his future.

Xiao Mo started working hard from six months after birth, striving to win at the starting line.

Of course, to avoid making his mother and Aunt Cui think he was abnormal, generally Xiao Mo would only crawl continuously on the bed when no one was around.

Once, after Xiao Mo woke up on the bed and discovered his mother and Aunt Cui were not there, Xiao Mo crawled from the head of the bed to the foot, then from the foot back to the head.

To achieve a training effect, Xiao Mo crawled faster and faster.

Just when Xiao Mo was crawling happily, the door suddenly opened. The maid Cuicui looked in surprise at her young master crawling back and forth like a little hamster, and extremely nimbly at that, far exceeding the activity capability of an ordinary infant.

Cuicui suspected she was seeing things. She rubbed her eyes and looked over again.

As a result, her young master was still lying on the bed sleeping soundly.

”Could I really be hallucinating?”

Cuicui thought to herself.

Perhaps it was really because she had been too tired recently that she was truly hallucinating.

Otherwise, how could such a small infant crawl so fast?

Before long, Xiao Mo was no longer satisfied with crawling. He began trying to stand.

Whenever Xiao Mo tried to grasp the railing at the bedʼs edge to stand up, Zhou Ruoxi would nervously watch her child, her small hands tightly clenched into fists, continuously calling out gently, ”Moʼer, work hard! Moʼer is almost there!”

Xiao Mo was merely trying to stand, yet Zhou Ruoxi was as nervous as if something incredibly important was happening.

Finally, Xiao Mo grasped the railing and stood up, but when he couldnʼt stand steady, with a ”thump,” he sat down on the bed with his bottom.

”Itʼs okay, Moʼer.” Zhou Ruoxi quickly held the child in her embrace, gently stroking his little bottom, ”Moʼer has already worked very hard. Even if you canʼt stand up now, itʼs okay. Youʼll be able to when you grow a little bigger.”

Although his mother said this, Xiao Mo did not give up.

Xiao Mo often tried to grasp the bed railing to stand up.

By the seventh month, Xiao Mo could already stand steadily while holding the bed railing, and could even stand for ten breaths of time after letting go.

Regarding these achievements of her child, Zhou Ruoxi naturally felt very happy but Zhou Ruoxi did not have any expectations for her son to become exceptional.

In Zhou Ruoxiʼs view, as long as her child could grow up healthy, then marry and have children, and happily spend his life, that would be good.

Soon, Xiao Mo had been born for a full ten months.

Xiao Mo could not only stand steadily by himself, he could even walk a few steps, though walking for a while would easily cause him to fall to the ground.

At the beginning, every time Xiao Mo fell, Zhou Ruoxiʼs expression would be very nervous but Zhou Ruoxi also knew, which child doesnʼt fall down?

Fall more when young, fall less when grown.

In the end, Zhou Ruoxi still forcibly steeled her heart and just stayed by the childʼs side, letting him walk slowly by himself.

Actually, Zhou Ruoxi did not hope her child would learn to walk so quickly because in Qin Kingdom, for a child to walk earlier was not necessarily a good thing.

So during ordinary times, Zhou Ruoxi would hold Xiao Mo and not let him walk on the ground all the time.

Xiao Mo also sensed that his mother seemed unwilling to let him learn to walk so quickly, but didnʼt know why and it was also during this nearly year-long time that Xiao Mo discovered that aside from the day he was born when his biological father came once, he had never come again.

This wasnʼt just because he was busy with official duties. Rather, Xiao Mo heard Sister Cuicui say ”The master has returned to the manor,” yet he still hadnʼt come to this courtyard even once. However, Xiao Mo didnʼt really care that much about it.

After all, in the eyes of that cheap father of his, he was nothing more than a bastard son.

He and his motherʼs only purpose was perhaps to add +1 to the Xiao Manorʼs offspring count but fortunately, because of his birth, his motherʼs monthly allowance had doubled compared to before, and the daily meals were also much better than before. However, Zhou Ruoxi spent all that money on Xiao Mo.

Zhou Ruoxi would have Cuicui go out to buy some good fabric, then personally make one garment after another, one pair of small shoes after another for her child.

By comparison, Zhou Ruoxi herself had not changed into a single new garment or bought a single new piece of jewelry.

It seemed this woman was always so plain and simple.

Even the maid Cuicui sometimes couldnʼt bear to watch and would advise Zhou Ruoxi, ”Madam, you should still buy yourself some clothes and jewelry. You havenʼt changed out of those clothes for so long.”

But Zhou Ruoxi would only smile and say, ”What do I need new clothes and jewelry for? The master wonʼt come to me anyway. Who would I dress up for? By comparison, letting my Moʼer dress well and eat well is whatʼs most worthwhile.”

”...” Hearing the madamʼs answer, Cuicui no longer said anything.

She knew the madamʼs stubborn personality.

No matter what she said, the madam would not listen but many times, when Cuicui saw the madam coaxing the young master to sleep, she would always feel it wasnʼt worth it for her madam.

The madam was not only beautiful but also a lady from a good family, with a very good personality. Yet because she was from an enemy nation, after the city was conquered, she was given to the master as a concubine.

Otherwise, the madam would have at least married into a well-matched household as a proper wife.

Living in a foreign land, and moreover having been sent out by her biological parents like a gift.

Perhaps in the madamʼs heart, the young master was her only support.

Before they knew it, the weather had entered winter.

There was only one month left until Xiao Moʼs first birthday.

Zhou Ruoxi was afraid her child would freeze, so she put a small tiger hat on him and dressed him in several layers of clothing. Xiao Mo felt like a ball.

Another half month passed.

Previously, Xiao Mo wanted to speak but couldnʼt tame this young body, and could only make sounds like ”gege” and ”gugu.”

But now, Xiao Mo felt as if something in him had become enlightened, as if he was gradually grasping language.

This feeling was extremely wondrous. It was that you could clearly feel you were taming your own mouth.

Additionally, as the weather grew colder and colder, Xiao Mo discovered his mother seemed increasingly concerned about the weather and appeared somewhat nervous and the thing Zhou Ruoxi worried about most still came to pass.

In mid-January, when Xiao Mo had only about ten days left until his first birthday, a heavy snow fell in the capital of Qin Kingdom.

Snowflakes fluttered and fell, dyeing the entire world white.

The silver-clad scenery was quite beautiful, but Zhou Ruoxi had no mood to appreciate it at all.

In fact, this was the first time in Zhou Ruoxiʼs life that she hated snow so much.

This was because according to Qin Kingdomʼs customs:

When a child could walk by themselves, they needed to undergo a trial in the first heavy snow. The mother had to stand ten zhang away, then the child would walk toward their mother until they reached their motherʼs side, or until they could no longer walk.

In Qin Kingdomʼs customs, only by experiencing the baptism of severe cold and heavy snow could a child grow taller and stronger, with a more resolute character.

On this day, the maid of the Xiao Manorʼs First Madam came to Zhou Ruoxiʼs courtyard to supervise Xiao Mo completing this custom.

Zhou Ruoxiʼs heart was naturally unwilling.

Generally, children could walk by themselves when they were a little over one year old but her child learned to walk early. He wasnʼt even one full year old yet.

But all of Qin Kingdom was like this. Not to mention Moʼer was the son of the Northern Pacification Prince. What way did she have to refuse?

In the end, Xiao Mo was picked up by Cuicui and placed ten zhang away from his mother.

Standing in the snowy ground, Xiao Mo looked left and right.

In the eyes of others, this infant who was not yet one year old had eyes full of confusion.

Zhou Ruoxi forcibly suppressed her worried expression and looked at her child with a smile, clapping her hands, breathing out hot air, and calling out gently, ”Moʼer, donʼt be afraid. Moʼer, come to Mother.”

Xiao Mo looked at his mother, blinked his large eyes, then moved his short little legs and shuffled step by step toward his mother.

As he shuffled along, Xiao Mo was tripped by a pebble and with a ”thump” fell into a snowdrift.

Zhou Ruoxi was so frightened she immediately stood up and was about to run toward her son.

”Fifth Madam, please do not break the rules,” two maids held Zhou Ruoxi back and said coldly.

Zhou Ruoxi bit her thin lips tightly as she watched her child.

Very quickly, Xiao Mo climbed up from the snow, shook his chubby head and body, then continued to open his arms and shuffle step by step toward his mother but before long, Xiao Mo fell down again yet Xiao Mo got up again and continued walking forward.

The resilience shown by this child who was not yet one year old exceeded everyoneʼs expectations.

He fell once and got up once. Even though he walked in the snow and the heavy snow reached past his waist, even though his little hands and cheeks were frozen bright red.

He never gave up.

He didnʼt even cry once.

Under normal circumstances, most children would already be sitting in the snow crying.

”Moʼer, just a few more steps. Moʼer, Mother is right here. Moʼer, donʼt rush. Take it slow.”

Watching her child shivering from the cold, Zhou Ruoxiʼs eyes had already turned red.

One step.

Two steps.

Three steps.

Finally, Xiao Mo came before his mother and threw himself into her embrace.

”Moʼer is so great. Moʼer is really so capable.”

Zhou Ruoxi quickly brushed off the white snow stuck to the childʼs body, then tightly grasped the childʼs little hands in hers, continuously breathing hot air on them.

”Mother.”

Just as Zhou Ruoxi was about to carry the child into the house, Xiao Mo called out in a childish voice.

Zhou Ruoxi was slightly stunned and stared blankly at her child, ”Moʼer, you... what did you call me?”

”Mother...” Xiao Mo called out again, much more accurately than the first time.

”Moʼer...” Zhou Ruoxiʼs eyes trembled, ”Moʼer, can you call out once more?”

”Mother...”

”Mother...”

”Mother...”

Xiao Mo happily called out three times in succession.

”Yes!”

”Yes!”

”Yes!”

Zhou Ruoxi tightly held the child in her embrace as tears streamed from her eyes, responding emphatically.

”Good child, Mother is here... is here.”
