We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 336: There Will Always Be a Table of Hot Food Waiting for You to Come Home

The rear courtyard of the Xiao Manor.

In this small courtyard, Third Madam Zhou Ruoxi was reading a book.

The maid Cuicui sat beside Zhou Ruoxi, brewing tea for her mistress and eating pastries and just as Cuicui raised her head, she saw the young master and Her Highness the Princess walking over.

”Madam, the young master and Her Highness the Princess are here...” The maid Cuicui called out joyfully.

Hearing Cuicuiʼs voice, Zhou Ruoxi also raised her head to look toward the courtyard entrance.

”Moʼer has come home.” Seeing her son return, Zhou Ruoxi stood up with a smile and bowed to Qin Siyao. ”This subjectʼs wife greets Her Highness the Princess.”

”Auntie Zhou, thereʼs no one else here. You really donʼt need to be so formal with me,” Qin Siyao quickly helped Zhou Ruoxi up, her cheeks carrying a faint blush.

Zhou Ruoxi looked at Her Highness the Princess beside her, who seemed somewhat bashful. She also appeared a bit nervous.

For some reason, Zhou Ruoxi felt that Her Highness the Princess was like a young bride meeting her belovedʼs elder for the first time.

Moreover, Her Highness the Princessʼs gaze kept glancing toward her son from time to time.
Zhou Ruoxi glanced at her child and Her Highness the Princess, feeling that something might have happened between the two of them.

”Mother, yesterday the palace sent an imperial edict. Your child must depart for the Northern Frontier tomorrow morning at dawn...”

Xiao Mo spoke to his mother.

When he said these words, Xiao Mo felt very guilty in his heart.

Ever since he had joined the Iron Tiger Army, seven years had passed before he saw his mother again and after only spending a little over a month with her, he had to leave again...

”I see.” A flash of disappointment crossed Zhou Ruoxiʼs eyes, but she quickly suppressed her emotions, not letting her child notice.

”Mother, Iʼm sorry. Your child wonʼt be able to keep you company again,” Xiao Moʼs tone carried self-reproach.

”Silly child, whatʼs there to apologize for?”

Zhou Ruoxi stepped forward and reached out to straighten Xiao Moʼs collar.

”Moʼer, you are now the Frost Prince of Qin Kingdom. Going on expeditions for the country is proper. Moreover, youʼre a seven-foot-tall man. You canʼt possibly stay by your motherʼs side forever, can you? What would that look like?

Sit in the courtyard for a while. Mother will make a few dishes in a bit to see you off.”

”Yes, Mother.” Xiao Mo nodded.

”Auntie Zhou, I... Iʼll help you.”

Hearing that Zhou Ruoxi was going to cook, Qin Siyao quickly offered to help.

”You know how to cook?” Xiao Mo asked Qin Siyao. He had never seen Qin Siyao cook before, though she did know how to make pastries.

”I... I donʼt... but Auntie Zhou can teach me, right, Auntie Zhou?” Qin Siyao took Zhou Ruoxiʼs arm.

”If Her Highness the Princess wants to learn, of course you can,” Zhou Ruoxi said with a smile.

”Thank you, Auntie Zhou.”

Qin Siyao happily followed Zhou Ruoxi into the kitchen.

Cuicui felt a bit uneasy and also followed into the kitchen.

Xiao Mo sat alone in the courtyard, watching his mother earnestly teaching Siyao in the kitchen. Seeing Siyaoʼs somewhat flustered appearance, he couldnʼt help but smile.

Perhaps after he left, with Siyao here, Mother wouldnʼt be too lonely.

A full half hour passed before Qin Siyao and Cuicui finally emerged from the kitchen carrying the dishes.

Qin Siyaoʼs fair little face was smudged with charcoal ash, making her look like a little cat. It took a long time to wash it clean.

”Xiao Mo, quickly try this. Although this is this princessʼs first time cooking, Auntie Zhou said this princess has great talent.”

Qin Siyao placed a piece of braised pork in Xiao Moʼs bowl and said proudly. Several people sat around the stone table, just like a family.

”Alright, let me try.” Xiao Mo smiled and took a bite.

”How is it? Is it good?” Qin Siyao asked with sparkling eyes.

”Itʼs good.” Xiao Mo nodded. However, Xiao Mo thought to himself, how could it not be good?

For this entire table of dishes, Mother had basically been standing behind Siyao, truly holding her hands to cook...

”If itʼs good, eat more.” Zhou Ruoxi placed more food in Xiao Moʼs bowl. ”Her Highness the Princess cooking for the first time is your good fortune. She made all your favorite dishes.”

”Auntie Zhou...” Qin Siyao lowered her head, her face reddening.

Seeing Her Highness the Princessʼs shy appearance, Zhou Ruoxi said nothing more, only smiling.

During dinner, although Zhou Ruoxi didnʼt ask Xiao Mo about the specific situation in the Northern Frontier, Xiao Mo told her everything anyway.

After all, Mother would definitely find out eventually.

Rather than letting Mother worry later, it was better to tell her directly now. However, Xiao Mo downplayed the dangers, speaking of how weak Zhei Kingdom was, how formidable the Snow-Treading Dragon Cavalry was, and how he was merely going to assist his father.

Zhou Ruoxi listened carefully to her sonʼs words, then nodded with a smile.

It was as if she believed everything her son said.

After dinner, Xiao Mo stayed in the courtyard.

Qin Siyao also didnʼt want to return to her residence. She wanted to stay in the courtyard.

Xiao Mo felt this was improper and, using the excuse that there were no spare rooms in the courtyard, wanted to send her back to the Princessʼs residence but unexpectedly, Mother actually spoke up for Siyao and even agreed to let Siyao sleep with her.

Naturally, Xiao Mo couldnʼt say anything more.

The next morning, as soon as the sky began to break, Xiao Mo got up and left his room, only to see Mother and Siyao preparing breakfast.

Xiao Mo didnʼt know if it was his imagination, but he felt that Siyao and Motherʼs relationship had become much closer.

”Mother, your child is leaving.”

After finishing breakfast, Xiao Mo was about to depart.

”Go on.” Zhou Ruoxi straightened Xiao Moʼs collar. ”You must take good care of yourself.”

”Yes, Mother.”

Xiao Mo bowed deeply, then turned to leave.

”Auntie Zhou, I... Iʼll see Xiao Mo off out of the city.”

Qin Siyao also bowed to Zhou Ruoxi, then jogged to Xiao Moʼs side.

The time it takes to burn a stick of incense later, Xiao Mo walked on the streets of the imperial capital. He looked at the girl beside him and asked with a smile, ”Last night, Siyao, what did you and my mother talk about?”

”We... we didnʼt really talk about much...”

Qin Siyaoʼs cheeks turned slightly red.

”Auntie Zhou just told me some things about when you were little.

For example, she said you have a stubborn personality, youʼre single-minded, and if something comes up, I need to talk to you properly because you respond to gentleness, not harshness.

She said you usually have no sense of humor and only know how to practice with your spear and read books, and told me not to mind then she said if you ever bully me in the future, I can go directly to Auntie Zhou, and sheʼll stand up for me.”

”...”

Xiao Mo was momentarily speechless.

As expected, his mother had already seen through everything.

These were all things a mother-in-law would say to her daughter-in-law.

”Finally, there was one more thing...”

Qin Siyao raised her head and looked at Xiao Moʼs profile, blinking.

”What?” Xiao Mo asked.

”Auntie Zhou... Auntie Zhou asked me to tell you...”

Qin Siyao reached out her hand and gently tugged at the corner of Xiao Moʼs clothing.

”When the path ahead becomes unclear and you donʼt know how to continue, donʼt force yourself too much.

No matter when, you can always look back. In that small courtyard, there will always be a table of hot food waiting for you to come home.”
