We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 273: Not Betraying Buddha, Nor Betraying Him

Within the great hall of Kongnian Temple.

Thirty abbots from other Buddhist temples had already arrived.

They knelt on cushions.

On each of their faces was righteous indignation.

Everyone seemed to be holding back a belly full of fire.

When Kongnian Templeʼs abbot entered the great hall, everyone looked in Xu Jingʼs direction.

”Master Xu Jing.”

Everyone stood up and pressed their palms together in salute toward Xu Jing.

”Greetings to all,” Xu Jing returned the salute with palms pressed together.

”Master Xu Jing is too kind,” the abbot of Clear Porridge Temple hurriedly said politely. ”Please, Master Xu Jing, take the seat of honor and discuss important matters!”
Xu Jing nodded without refusing and sat at the very front of the great hall.

The abbot of Plain Clothes Temple cleared his throat and spoke, ”Master Xu Jing, honored masters, we have all gathered here for a matter Iʼm sure everyone understands. This old monk will not waste words. Several years ago, the demonic sects produced one Xiao Mo, a disciple of Ten Thousand Dao Sectʼs Karma Blood Peak lineage. At that time, Xiao Mo had just emerged, but most of us did not take him seriously. But who could have known? This childʼs talent is extremely rare in the Western Region from ancient times to present!”

“He kills enemies across realms as easily as drinking water. Several years ago, Ten Thousand Dao Sect suffered internal strife. Sect Master Ding Jingyi died, and thirty percent of Ten Thousand Dao Sectʼs Upper Three Realm cultivators perished. Not long after Xiao Mo became Ten Thousand Dao Sectʼs master, the Nine Great Demonic Sects jointly attacked Ten Thousand Dao Sect, only to be repelled by Xiao Mo alone with his blade. He drove back thirty thousand demonic troops, including nine Ascension realm sect masters. This matter is unprecedented!”

“Calling this person a divine being reincarnated would not be an exaggeration. Even in ancient times, he would likely be a figure who slays gods. If Xiao Mo had kept to Ten Thousand Dao Sectʼs small territory and become the demonic pathʼs number one person, that would have been acceptable. But in recent years, Xiao Mo has campaigned east and west, north and south, destroying numerous demonic sects. Even our Buddhist sects have not been spared. Xiao Mo has already been called the ʼSupreme Leader of the Demonic Pathʼ by all under heaven.”

“We have even heard that Xiao Mo has already led his great army toward the territories of our Ten Great Buddhist Temples. I fear it will not be long before the Buddha-Demon War inevitably erupts. Today, we propose forming a Buddhist alliance to resist the demonic sects! To subdue that insufferably arrogant Demon Lord Xiao Mo!”

”This old monk thinks the same.”

The abbot of Mandala Temple agreed.

Though the others did not speak, they likewise nodded, agreeing with the proposal of Plain Clothes Templeʼs abbot.

They all looked toward Xu Jing, wanting to hear his opinion.

No matter what, Xu Jing was the number one person of the Buddhist path, and his realm was the highest among everyone present.

The Buddhist alliance absolutely required Kongnian Templeʼs participation.

”Regarding this Benefactor Xiao, this old monk has also inquired about him. He is not someone whose demonic heart is deeply rooted. Comparatively, in this old monkʼs view, this Benefactor Xiao possesses wisdom roots,” Xu Jing said after some thought.

”I have heard that the temples Benefactor Xiao destroyed were evil temples like Joy Temple and Suffering Temple?”

”Alas,” the abbot of Thousand Buddha Temple sighed and shook his head. ”We naturally also dislike those evil temples. Their removal brings great satisfaction to peopleʼs hearts. But if it were only this, we would not have come to disturb Master Xu Jing.”

”What do you mean by this?” Xu Jing asked.

”Master Xu Jing, you do not know,” the abbot of Like Dreams Temple spoke.

”Recently, Xiao Mo has had demonic sect disciples establish numerous formations in the mortal world. These formations can absorb twenty percent of the mortal peopleʼs existing lifespan! They have even absorbed dynastic fortune! Now Xiao Moʼs actions have caused complaints throughout the Western Regionʼs common people, but they dare to be angry yet dare not speak.”

”Speaking of this matter, it is also strange,” another abbot said.

”After Xiao Mo used formations to absorb lifespan, he still distributed considerable wealth to the common people. Moreover, he strictly forbids his subordinates from indiscriminately killing or harming mortal people, otherwise they will all be executed. Not only that, he also established rules for his subordinates that any evil techniques using othersʼ flesh, blood, or divine souls as nourishment are strictly forbidden. He seems like a demon, yet also does not seem like a demon.”

”Moreover, do you know that after Xiao Mo killed those Upper Three Realm cultivators, he even locked up their divine souls? So many Upper Three Realm cultivatorsʼ souls! What exactly does he want to do?”

”Regardless, Xiao Moʼs schemes are great. We must stop him!” the abbot of Prosperous Temple said in a heavy voice.

Listening to his fellow practitioners speak one after another, Abbot Xu Jing lowered his head, his brow slightly furrowed.

In Abbot Xu Jingʼs view, Xiao Mo was not someone who treated common people like straw dogs but using secret techniques to deprive people of twenty percent of their life essence, and collecting so many Upper Three Realm cultivatorsʼ souls, what exactly did he want to do?

Xiao Mo had even already marched toward the territories where the Ten Great Buddhist Temples were located.

An hour later, the assembly dispersed, and the abbots were arranged to rest in separate courtyards.

Though Xu Jing had not yet agreed to form an alliance with them, Xu Jing also knew that his Kongnian Temple probably could not avoid this.

Leaving the great hall, Xu Jing walked through the mountain forest, attempting to deduce what Xiao Mo was plotting.

As he walked, Xu Jing sensed something and raised his head to look toward the courtyard at the back mountain.

At the same time, the abbots staying in the separate courtyards also all looked toward the direction of Kongnian Templeʼs back mountain.

Above the back mountainʼs sky, Buddhist light condensed. Auspicious clouds manifested in the air. Even the Buddhist light condensed into a river, and hundreds and thousands of lotus flowers bloomed within the river.

The abbots from other temples exchanged glances with one another.

Everyone knew, on that back mountain, someone had achieved enlightenment.

Shortly after, Xu Jing came outside the courtyard, looking at the young girl within.

Buddhist light surrounded her entire body, as if draping her in a holy kasaya.

Beneath the bodhi tree, she still held her palms together, raising her head to look at the leaves moving with the wind.

Her eyes were filled with compassion.

Hundun made a ”Miguu” sound, looking at its mistress.

Though it did not know what had happened, the light radiating from its mistress made it feel very comfortable.

”Wangxin.”

Xu Jing walked to the young girlʼs side and called softly.

”Abbot Grandfather,” Wangxin stood up and pressed her palms together.

”Have you found the answer in your heart?” Xu Jing asked.

Several years ago, at Buddha Demon Mountain, when Xiao Mo and Wangxin parted ways, he had asked Wangxin, if he were to kill all the people under heaven, what choice would Wangxin make?

After that, Wangxin returned to Kongnian Temple and fell into contemplation for five full years.

”No...”

Wangxin shook her head and lowered her eyes.

”At that time, Xiao Mo asked me ʼbetween all the people under heaven and him, what choice should I make?ʼ If I could not answer, I would leave him. Actually, I knew Xiao Mo was worried that the increasingly thick blood-killing energy would affect me.”

“And I also knew that after returning, he would do something great, would kill many people, and he did not want me to face these things. Now, I still have not found the answer. But since I cannot think of it, then I will go seek it in this world.”

Wangxin turned around and raised her head to look at the bodhi tree.

”In that answer, I will not betray Buddha, nor will I betray him.”
