We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 253: The Scholar Is Still a Scholar, the Woman Still Wears a White Dress.

On the elevated platform, the Empress Dowager Yan standing to one side tightly clutched her sleeves, coldly watching Huang Wei.

She didnʼt know what this Huang Weiʼs intentions actually were!

During this period of time, she had heard from her younger brother that Huang Wei from the Ten Thousand Swords Sect was wavering indecisively, and had even hinted to other prominent clans to compete for the position of Empress but the Empress Dowager Yan couldnʼt figure it out no matter how hard she tried.

The Yan family had given Huang Wei quite a lot, and had treated him with utmost respect, absolutely not doing anything to wrong him.

Moreover, the relationship between both sides had always been quite good.

Why exactly did he change his mind?

The Empress Dowager Yan turned her head again, looking toward Yan Shanʼao not far away.

Yan Shanʼao also shook his head with an equally grave expression, not knowing what was actually going on.

In truth, Huang Weiʼs heart was also somewhat uneasy at this moment.

As the saying goes, ”Better to demolish a temple than destroy a marriage.”
He truly didnʼt want to be such a villain.

Not to mention that he had already promised the Yan clan to support them yet recently he had been constantly creating trouble.

After today, his reputation would probably plummet but since these were the Sect Masterʼs orders, what else could he say?

However, there was one thing Huang Wei didnʼt understand.

If the Sect Master didnʼt want a talented woman from the Yan clan to become the Empress of Zhou, wouldnʼt that just be a matter of the Sect Master saying one sentence?

Who could go against the Sect Masterʼs opinion?

Yet the Sect Master seemed to be concerned about something.

”Forget it, forget it.” Huang Wei shook his head inwardly.

Just do his own job properly. After today, he would directly find an excuse to return to the Ten Thousand Swords Sect.

He felt that something would happen in this imperial capital of Zhou. In any case, he couldnʼt stay here any longer.

”Cough, cough, cough.”

Huang Wei coughed a few times, explaining why he objected.

”Although there were nine stars encircling yesterday, there were also seven stars forming a line, suspended to the side like a sword. This suggests that within perfection, danger may be hidden.

After this old oneʼs calculations, today it would be best to follow your countryʼs normal rituals. Do not alter them carelessly and create unnecessary complications.”

”Elder Huang speaks reasonably. The wedding ceremony is not childʼs play. Such grand rites should only be performed at the official ceremony. I implore Your Majesty to reconsider!”

”I implore Your Majesty to reconsider!”

”Your Majesty! How can there be reason to hold the ceremony at this time? Our ancestors will think weʼre making fools of them.”

After Huang Wei spoke, the other court officials quickly followed up with their own statements.

Hearing these officialsʼ voices, the faces of the Empress Dowager Yan and Yan Shanʼao turned frighteningly dark.

Both of them clearly understood that these ministers knew they had most likely lost the Ten Thousand Swords Sectʼs support.

Without the Ten Thousand Swords Sectʼs firm backing, even though the Yan familyʼs influence in the court was considerable, if the other ministers and clans united together and banded together for warmth, they could still prevent Yan Shanʼao from acting recklessly.

”Your Majesty, Elder Huang speaks reasonably. This wedding ceremony should wait until the day of the official ceremony,” the Empress Dowager Yan stepped forward and said.

Although the Empress Dowager Yan was unwilling, what choice did she have now?

It would be better to take a step back and preserve her dignity.

”Since even the Empress Dowager says so, then letʼs leave it for today,” Xiao Mo nodded.

Xiao Mo appeared very calm on the surface, but inwardly he was secretly delighted.

From todayʼs events, it seemed the Ten Thousand Swords Sect was not so supportive of the Yan clan after all.

Something must have happened between the Ten Thousand Swords Sect and the Yan clan. After all, when that cool and aloof Fairy Jiang mentioned the Yan clan, her face showed displeasure.

The reason they hadnʼt fallen out now was probably just for the sake of appearances.

Two incense sticksʼ time later, all the procedures of the wedding ceremony had been completed without any mishaps.

After the officials withdrew, Yan Ruxue was also led away by the Empress Dowager Yan.

Xiao Mo returned to the palace, changed into loose Daoist robes, and then went to the imperial study.

Although Xiao Mo was devoted to cultivation and basically didnʼt concern himself with court affairs, some major state policies still required Xiao Moʼs imperial seal to stamp approval.

Every so often, Xiao Mo would go to the imperial study to handle these matters.

However, because Xiao Mo had increased the time flow rate of the Book of a Hundred Lives, his mind and spirit were somewhat fatigued. Combined with the considerable impact from this failed tribulation, Xiao Moʼs mental state was not very good to begin with.

After handling several memorials, Xiao Mo rested his head on the desk, planning to recuperate his mind and spirit.

At the same time, in Lingxin Palace, Yan Ruxue had already removed her wedding dress and changed back into a long dress.

After Yan Ruxue exchanged a few pleasantries with the Empress Dowager Yan, she left the palace under the escort of Huang Shangyi .

When Yan Ruxue passed by the outer wall of the imperial study, she couldnʼt help but stop.

Seeing this scene, Huang Shangyi smiled and said, ”Miss, this servant has heard that His Majesty is currently handling government affairs in the imperial study. Would you like to go in and take a look?”

”Is that allowed?” Yan Ruxue asked. ”According to Zhouʼs etiquette, before His Majesty and I are married, we shouldnʼt meet, right?”

”According to Zhouʼs etiquette, that is indeed true, but people are alive while rules are dead,” Huang Shangyi smiled. ”Besides, today so many civil and military officials didnʼt give the Empress Dowager face. The Empress Dowager is angry, so what does it matter if some rules arenʼt followed?”

Yan Ruxue lowered her head, thought for a moment, and smiled, ”In that case, letʼs do as Huang Shangyi suggests.”

Seeing Yan Ruxue agree, Huang Shangyi quickly signaled to several palace maids, having them first dismiss the palace maids and Wei Xun serving at the entrance.

After there was no one outside the imperial study, only then did Yan Ruxue cross the plaza in front of the imperial study.

Walking to the outside of the imperial study, Yan Ruxue faintly heard the steady breathing of a man inside.

Yan Ruxue smiled slightly. Without knocking, she quietly opened the door and slowly walked in.

In the imperial study, Xiao Mo was sleeping with his head on the desk.

”Mm...”

Suddenly, Xiao Moʼs brows furrowed. Not knowing what dream he was having, his expression seemed to carry a bit of pain.

Yan Ruxue extended her finger and gently touched Xiao Moʼs forehead.

Warm spiritual power entered Xiao Moʼs body.

Very quickly, Xiao Moʼs brows relaxed, and he fell into an even deeper sleep.

The woman lightly brushed her skirt and crouched down, placing her hands one over the other on the desk. Her fair chin rested on her arms, and those beautiful peach blossom eyes blinked as she watched the sleeping man.

Sunlight shone through the window into the study. Tiny particles of dust reflected the midday sun and quietly settled on the two of them.

As she watched, the woman extended her fair finger and gently poked his cheek.

The sleeping Xiao Mo felt an itch. His cheek rubbed against his arm, and he continued sleeping.

The woman smiled and continued to quietly watch him.

Seven thousand years ago.

In a small village, there was a scholar who liked to read in the courtyard.

The scholar had a habit, if he became too tired, he would rest his head on the stone table to take a break.

At such times, a young girl wearing a white dress would be like a little cat, her small hands resting on the desk, her eyes level with his, poking his cheek from time to time.

Just like right now, seven thousand years later.

Even though the scholar had become an emperor.

Even though the woman had taken control of the four seas.

But it seemed... the scholar was still a scholar and the woman still wore a white dress.
