Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator

Until they had moved far away from those corpses, no witch had jumped out to ambush them.

But Lin Ye didn’t think those bodies were without issues.

Not long after they had walked out, another group of cultists charged out of the woods. Lin Ye pulled some stones from his pocket and hurled them at the rushing cultists.

These stones were backup weapons he had picked up along the way. After all, tools were limited, and if he didn’t want these people getting close, he needed disposable weapons like this.

The stones worked surprisingly well. As long as he hit a vital spot, he could take down a cultist.

These cultists were clearly in a strange state. They charged in straight lines like zombies from those zombie movies, but they weren’t even as tough as zombies.

And since he couldn’t let them get close, they were basically budget zombies.

Lin Ye walked along, picking up stones and plucking wild vegetables as he went. Some of the wild vegetables seemed to have been tampered with, causing him slight discomfort, but the Gluttony skill was reliable enough—those substances were all broken down in the end.

After dealing with the tenth wave of zombies, a woman in a black robe appeared before them.

”Finally can’t hold back anymore?”Lin Ye casually threw a stone at the witch.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to give her a chance to speak—he had just gotten into the rhythm of throwing.

Unlike those zombies, the witch nimbly dodged the stone while taking two steps back.

”Hold on, I want to talk to you.”

The witch stood still, signaling that she meant no harm.

”You’re not going to say that the other witches sent you in to deal with us without caring whether you live or die, so you don’t want to stick with them anymore and want to join us, right?”

Lin Ye reached into his bag. If she spouted nonsense that even an idiot wouldn’t believe, he would definitely smash her head in.

”...No, I just want to leave myself an escape route. I can tell you information about the other witches.”

The witch paused briefly before speaking.

”I don’t need information about the other witches. Never mind whether you’d tell the truth—that information is useless now. We’ll hold out here until Doomsday ends. If they dare come in, they’ll lose all their power just like you.”

Lin Ye tossed a stone in his hand. He didn’t believe those strong ones would risk their lives to fight them over an uncertain Doomsday.

”That’s not quite right. I haven’t lost all my power.”

The witch’s body became blurry, gradually blending into the environment like a chameleon.

”Is it the power of that gem? Why weren’t you attacked?”

Lin Ye didn’t think she had swallowed the gem into her stomach either.

He had swallowed two gems but hadn’t gained any special ability—probably because Gluttony had broken them down into more basic ’nutrients.’

”That’s not a gem. It’s a materialized product of the Witch Contract. Do you know what it takes to become a witch?”

The witch didn’t seem to mind sharing some information with Lin Ye.

”Does it have to do with phantom beasts?”

As a Master of Ritual Studies, Lin Ye could roughly guess what she was about to say.

”That’s right. The Witch Contract is also a type of phantom beast contract, except the method of signing is... more primitive.”

A flicker of emotion finally crossed the witch’s face. She seemed to be recalling some unpleasant memories.

”Are you feeling regret?”

Lin Ye put a wild vegetable into his mouth.

”Only those trusted by phantom beasts can sign a phantom beast contract with them. But in the process of signing that contract, killing the phantom beast that trusted you, and then eating every last bit of its corpse without leaving anything behind—that’s the Witch Contract.”

The witch revealed a bitter smile. Phantom beasts were the purest creatures in this world, and only by betraying the purest trust could one gain ultimate power.

”So it’s because you people ate phantom beasts into near extinction that I can’t find any?”

Lin Ye looked at the witch with a very dangerous gaze.

”...That’s not the point. The point is that the Witch Contract is the power closest to the origin in this world. Even if the entire world’s environment undergoes drastic changes, a witch can rely on the Witch Contract to complete a power conversion. All you can destroy are those commoners and weaklings.”

The witch looked at Eura. She had never planned to convince Lin Ye from the start—Eura was the root of this whole incident.

”It’s fine. On Doomsday itself, I’ll go meet your leader.”

Although Lin Ye hoped Doomsday would be reliable, he wouldn’t pin his hopes on other things. He would grant those witches an equal destruction.

He happened to be very good at destruction and annihilation.

He could even be said to be destruction itself.

”...You’ll die.”

The witch took a step back.

”You can leave now. I won’t kill you this time. You can pass on what I said to the witch leader. As for an escape route, don’t even think about it. From the moment you made that choice, you’ve already lost any way out—and you’re not really looking for one anyway.”

Lin Ye casually threw the stone in his hand, hitting the witch hiding in the shadows of the woods to the left. The illusion in front of him quickly disappeared.

”That one was for the phantom beasts. It’s all your fault I didn’t get to eat... see any phantom beasts.”

Lin Ye ignored the witch whose head he had smashed and led Eura and Little Guardian to continue searching for the forest exit.

”Is everything she said true?”

Eura was clearly shaken.

”Except for the part about wanting an escape route, the rest should be true. She won’t betray the other witches, even if she once betrayed the phantom beast that trusted her.”

Lin Ye suddenly found it somewhat ironic.

Trust was never something that could be traded. That was why he would never trust anyone.

”...Aren’t you afraid I’ll become a witch too?”

Eura hesitated before finally asking the question.

”You’re already the Witch of Destruction.”

Lin Ye ate his wild vegetables. He had originally wanted to catch a few phantom beasts to bring back to the Shelter, but phantom beasts didn’t seem to be a type of creature—they were something closer to Rule Fragments.

A living Rule Fragment.

”Huh? Then do I still need to eat you?”

Eura asked in confusion.

”No need. I’m a phantom beast deity, not the same as those phantom beasts... But if you really want to taste me, I wouldn’t mind. After I leave, you can do whatever you want with that dinosaur body.”

Lin Ye could produce dozens of similar dinosaur bodies per minute through Alienation. He could fry, boil, cook, braise, steam, stew, or roast them however he wanted.

”...I’ll raise it.”

Eura replied very seriously.

”Up to you.”

Lin Ye didn’t care much about that dinosaur body.

”Let’s focus on how to get out of here first. Otherwise, we might not survive the night.”

Little Guardian pulled the increasingly off-topic conversation back on track.

”I already know how to get out. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have chatted with that woman for so long.”

Lin Ye never wasted time on important matters.
