Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator

On the Rooftop

Lin Ye reconstructed the lighting changes of different apartment buildings at various times within the residential complex in his mind.

It took him quite a while to find the pattern behind the lighting changes.

The lighting pattern was tied to the observer, the observer’s movement route, observation time, and the apartment building itself. Even for Lin Ye, figuring out the exact rules in such a short time was incredibly difficult, but he managed to find a method that would allow him to safely enter an apartment building.

All he needed was to find a completely darkened building, and he could enter through the stairwell entrance.

Lin Ye began circling the residential complex. It took him another half hour before he stopped outside the entrance to Unit 1 of Building 1.

The entire building was pitch-black. Lin Ye entered the apartment building. This time, the corridor’s motion-sensor lights didn’t turn on, and the entrance didn’t swallow him up.

Moving slowly upward through the dark stairwell, Lin Ye had no light to guide him. He could only rely on his mental simulation of the building’s structure to step by step make his way toward the rooftop.

He didn’t actually know what had happened in this residential complex, nor did he understand what these apartment buildings were. But if he wanted to resolve the abnormal incident here, he had to first understand this area.

So he decided to take a look at the rooftop first. Maybe there would be some crucial information up there. The stairwell was deathly quiet. Occasionally, Lin Ye felt something brush past him, but those things didn’t make contact.

He reached the door leading to the rooftop without encountering any obstacles.

’I hope there’s nothing dangerous up there.’

Lin Ye reached out and pushed open the door. A blinding light made him squint. Beyond the door was the apartment building’s rooftop, but outside wasn’t a dark night—it was a sunlit noon.

The rooftop was covered in lush green plants. Lin Ye hesitated for half a second before finally stepping onto it.

The door behind him closed automatically, sealing the darkness on the other side.

’Well... I’ll be damned.’

Violent spiritual energy tore at Lin Ye’s prison garb. He looked up at the sky and let out a heartfelt curse.

The organization’s planet was very similar to Blue Star, but right now, there was no sun or atmosphere in the sky. Standing on the rooftop, Lin Ye was directly exposed to that pitch-black, dead, icy-cold universe.

A high-energy sphere emitting white light hung in the darkness, illuminating this land.

Near the light sphere was a nearly motionless void. Just looking at that void made people feel as if the universe had been punched through.

Beneath the void and the light sphere, a transparent grid covered the entire sky.

’What the hell kind of place did they dump me into? The aftermath of the apocalypse?’

Lin Ye opened the rooftop door behind him. Beyond it wasn’t the dark stairwell but an abandoned corridor lit by white light.

’...Since I’m already here, I might as well absorb some spiritual energy to strengthen this body.’

Lin Ye began absorbing the somewhat violent spiritual energy from the environment. He didn’t know anything about this place, so he wasn’t planning to wander around until he had boosted his strength to a certain level.

Bang.

A dull sound echoed from inside his body. Lin Ye’s lungs had exploded.

’Damn! This spiritual energy is messed up!’

Lin Ye immediately stopped absorbing spiritual energy and tried to use the power of the Flesh and Blood Rule Fragment to repair his lungs.

A mass of swollen alveoli burst out from inside Lin Ye, instantly growing into a writhing mountain of alveoli that reached five meters high and covered half the rooftop, crushing him underneath.

The Flesh and Blood Rule Fragment seemed to be affected by something, failing to produce the result Lin Ye wanted.

Lying under the alveoli mountain without moving, Lin Ye’s life hung by a thread after those two attempts, ready to flicker out at any moment.

If he really died here, this would probably become the stupidest death in Lin Ye’s simulation missions.

’This place is seriously abnormal. The spiritual energy is extremely unstable, and there seems to be something in the environment that affects rule fragments.’

Lin Ye tried absorbing spiritual energy with just the little finger of his left hand to test its effects.

In less than a second, his little finger exploded into a bloody mist.

’This spiritual energy isn’t pure! It’s mixed with something else!’

Lin Ye quickly identified the problem. Those impurities were affecting his control over the spiritual energy and also interfering with its effects.

Just as Lin Ye was studying the spiritual energy, the lush green plants on the rooftop crawled over to the alveoli mountain and began sucking the flesh and blood from the alveoli.

”Sister Cui? We’re on the same side, stop sucking...”

A thick, bloody smell drifted across the rooftop. Seemingly stimulated by the scent of blood, a large number of green plants crawled onto the rooftop, plunged into Lin Ye’s body, and began devouring his flesh and blood.

To avoid being drained dry, Lin Ye had no choice but to absorb the impure spiritual energy from the environment and use the Flesh and Blood Rule Fragment to proliferate his own flesh and blood.

But that only attracted more plants. Lin Ye tried to buy time this way while also studying the spiritual energy here.

Unfortunately, before he could figure anything out, his body was completely drained dry by those plants.

[Remaining Simulation Attempts: 8]

Lin Ye opened his eyes inside the prison transport vehicle. The sensation of being continuously drained still lingered on his body.

’...So what the hell is that place? Another destroyed organization plane? Or a future world where the organization has been destroyed? That void—could it be the Great Hollow?’

Lin Ye sat in the prison transport vehicle, pondering how to complete this simulation mission.

He didn’t even know what the mission objective was. It couldn’t possibly be asking him to save that plane, could it?

While Lin Ye was thinking about that low-quality spiritual energy, the prison transport vehicle stopped at the residential complex entrance again.

This time, following the pattern he had discovered before, Lin Ye successfully opened the rooftop door of Unit 1 in Building 1.

Beyond the door was the same scene as before. Even though he had arrived a bit earlier this time, there weren’t any major changes.

When Lin Ye stepped onto the rooftop, the door closed automatically. He tried to stop it, but found it completely impossible.

That door seemed to exist in another plane entirely. His actions simply couldn’t affect it.

This time, Lin Ye didn’t recklessly absorb spiritual energy or use rule fragments. He walked to the edge of the rooftop and began observing the surrounding situation.

The residential complex was completely abandoned. The terrain nearby had changed dramatically. In the distance, some tall humanoid Silhouettes could be seen moving. Inside the complex, there were snow-white brains floating in mid-air, covered in gray neural bundles.

Green plants grew everywhere on the ground of the complex. Lin Ye had already been drained dry by these plants once, so of course he knew how dangerous they were.

Perhaps because there was no smell of blood, the plants on the rooftop didn’t attack Lin Ye.
