Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator

Brain and Brain Chamber

Lin Ye did not approach the organization’s base. He only needed to wait at a distance for the Mutants to deliver that research project to him.

The dark green Fleshy Mountain crawled above the base and spewed large amounts of dark green gas into its interior. Strands of dark green flesh and blood Root Tendrils burrowed deep into the base, beginning to clear out the remaining anomalous creatures.

After a while, a Mutant crawled out from inside, a dark green culture dish clutched in its mouth. The Mutant placed the culture dish in front of Lin Ye, then turned and left the area. Once it had finished cleaning out the anomalous creatures, the dark green Fleshy Mountain also slithered away.

Lin Ye did not touch the culture dish. The thing gave him an ominous feeling.

”Can you hear me? How am I supposed to reclaim this research project? Can you take it away?”

Lin Ye tried to call out to Singularity, but she did not appear.

”What a pain.”

Using spare parts from his body, Lin Ye created a Mutant, then controlled it to swallow the culture dish on the ground. As Lin Ye moved, the Mutant maintained a safe distance, following behind him.

Lin Ye did not enter the organization’s base. After all, that was the initial site of the Mold outbreak, and there might still be dangerous things inside.A Mutant covered in multicolored fur passed by nearby. The number of Mutants in the city was steadily increasing, and Lin Ye felt he had almost completed the task of clearing the city district.

He looked up at the pitch-black sky. That Glowing Sphere still hung in the darkness, its position unchanged. However, the hole in the sky seemed to have moved a bit closer to the sphere.

”So... is the organization actually dealing with the problem or not?”

Lin Ye considered whether he should try to deal with that hole. But that thing only looked close. In reality, the distance between him and the hole was at least a hundred thousand meters, with that transparent grid of unknown function sandwiched between them.

According to common sense, that transparent grid was probably some kind of protective device to shield the ground from the effects of the cosmic environment. That raised a question: if he wanted to deal with the hole, he’d have to go through the grid, which might compromise its integrity, causing it to fail and affecting the entire world.

”If I’m supposed to handle the situation here, they should at least tell me whether I can pass through.”

Lin Ye caught a brain that was being chased by a Mutant. This thing must have flown over from that residential complex.

”...What are you? Why are you destroying the brain chamber?”

The brain emitted a faint mental fluctuation.

”I’m a D-Class personnel from the organization, sent to deal with the problem here. Can you understand me?”

Lin Ye looked at the brain. He hadn’t expected this thing could actually communicate.

”...Impossible! D-Class personnel were all dead early on during the initial scouting! And D-Class couldn’t possibly have this kind of power!”

The brain waved its nerve bundles excitedly.

”Do you know about Research Project No. 5473? I was brought here by that thing. Were you an organization member too? Do you know that woman named Singularity?”

Lin Ye felt like he might have grasped a clue.

”5473? I don’t know. I’m just a B-Class personnel, I don’t know about research projects that don’t concern me... You’re not a D-Class from this world? Over there, aren’t D-Class... scouts? Singularity... I think I’ve heard some related information, but when the brain chamber is running, I can’t think clearly...”

Seemingly stimulated, the brain emitted chaotic mental fluctuations.

”What is the brain chamber?”

Lin Ye was good at grasping the key points.

”...I can’t say. You destroyed the brain chamber and don’t have the relevant clearance.”

The brain hesitated for a moment before emitting its mental fluctuation.

”The world is about to be destroyed, and you’re still withholding information. You’re so reliable.”

Lin Ye didn’t forcefully press for information about the brain chamber. If this thing really was the organization’s B-Class personnel, then he had no reason to act against it.

”...The brain chamber utilizes Research Project No. 47—”

The brain shattered in Lin Ye’s hand. Brain matter flowed down the back of his hand and onto the ground.

”You don’t have the clearance to access that information.”

Singularity appeared across from Lin Ye. She wore a black latex suit, her pure white hair stained with black, viscous liquid.

”...So that hole in the sky up there was caused by you?”

Lin Ye sighed. Although he felt this woman was a bit off, he hadn’t noticed any obvious problems during their previous interactions.

”No, my duty is to deal with that hole.”

Singularity wore a smile full of goodwill and answered in an especially sweet voice.

”But you don’t intend to fulfill that duty?”

Lin Ye could roughly guess what was happening here.

”No, I just plan to deal with that hole in a different way... like waiting for it to disappear naturally.”

Singularity looked up at the sky, completely unconcerned with Lin Ye’s attitude.

”Are you some kind of artificial intelligence created by the organization? Or a Consciousness connected to some research project?”

Those researchers always ended up creating this kind of troublesome thing. Lin Ye was already used to it.

”No, I’m just an ordinary researcher who was chosen by the organization to be a sacrificial offering.”

Singularity looked completely defenseless, her tone very casual, as if she didn’t care about anything at all.

”Well, you’re pretty good at acting. Ordinary people can’t fool me easily.”

Lin Ye didn’t attack directly. He didn’t believe she would place her true body in front of him.

”I’m not acting. I just removed some irrelevant memories. The Singularity you met before was just the one carrying out the organization’s mission.”

Singularity answered Lin Ye’s question very calmly.

”Even without memories, your behavior should have had obvious flaws. Like who should handle the hole up there... Was it that brain chamber? Don’t tell me there’s something else?”

Although Lin Ye had noticed some things that didn’t add up earlier, he didn’t know the organization’s specific action plan, so it was hard for him to find the holes.

”It’s not just the brain chamber. You also helped me destroy the sacrificial ritual, the underground worms, and some other research projects.”

Singularity revealed a delighted smile. Several silhouettes walked over from the distance, including the survivors Lin Ye had rescued earlier. Their faces also wore the same smile.

”So these people are the real pseudo-humans? The ones I killed were all normal people?”

Lin Ye also revealed a delighted smile, but his smile carried a trace of murderous intent.

”To be precise, the ones you killed were pseudo-humans produced from normal people. These ones are normal people disguised as pseudo-humans.”

The city couldn’t have zero normal people. Singularity needed some actors to guide Lin Ye’s actions.

”Very impressive. It’s been a long time since I was last fooled by someone.”

Lin Ye calmly met Singularity’s gaze. He actually wasn’t particularly angry.

”You weren’t fooled by me. You were fooled by the organization.”

Singularity smiled as she responded.
