A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Fu Xiaocui’s Competitive Mind

Fu Xiaocui felt that her bright future had been taken away by Fu Xiaoxiao.

A soldier, in this era, is the best choice for a husband, bar none.

Marrying into the military means enjoying life, plus with a soldier, there’s no fear of going hungry, and the allowance is high. It’s a stable life.

Even if the husband dies in battle, the army would provide compensation.

How could such a good thing fall to Fu Xiaoxiao?

Someone who has always been overshadowed by her, someone inferior in every way, suddenly living better than her, Fu Xiaocui couldn’t bear it.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.

”Mom, I want to marry into the military too!” Fu Xiaocui acted coyly, hugging Mrs. Fu.

”Nonsense, you think it’s so easy to find one? Besides, if you marry a soldier and something happens to him, what would you do by yourself?” Mrs. Fu didn’t see anything great about soldiers; the allowance might be high, but it’s also dangerous!

If her husband were gone, wouldn’t her daughter end up a widow?

”Mom, what are you thinking! It’s already peacetime, there are no more wars to fight, and besides, the allowance for soldiers isn’t small! How is it bad?” Fu Xiaocui disagreed with her mother’s opinion. Whatever Fu Xiaoxiao had, she had to take it away, and if she couldn’t, she had to live better than her.

In short, she couldn’t live worse than Fu Xiaoxiao.

Fu Xiaoxiao’s job suddenly lost its appeal; after all, it was just a temporary job with exhausting work, nothing good about it.

Mr. Fu glanced at his younger daughter, seeing through her thoughts.

”Alright, don’t trouble your mom anymore. Do you think finding a person like this is so easy? And even ordinary soldiers don’t have the privilege of staying in the city.” Mr. Fu pointed out Fu Xiaocui’s intentions, making it clear.

”Then...” Mrs. Fu and Fu Xiaocui looked at Mr. Fu. Could it be that Fu Xiaoxiao married up?

”At least it’s a company commander.” Mr. Fu took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

”Wouldn’t that be an old man?” Fu Xiaocui couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing this.

”Not really old, right?” Mrs. Fu thought about it, not insanely old, maybe just eight or nine years older.

Mr. Fu was amused by the foolishness of the mother and daughter; is the age the point here?

”What if she comes back to make trouble for you later, can you handle it?” Mr. Fu’s words instantly froze Mrs. Fu’s smile.

”What do you plan to do?” Mrs. Fu thought about it and felt displeased. Being ordered around by Fu Xiaoxiao was worse than death, and she couldn’t afford to offend her.

”Dad, don’t scare Mom! With Fu Xiaoxiao’s personality, how could anyone like her? Marrying her must be just for labor. Who would support her?” Fu Xiaocui’s words made Mr. and Mrs. Fu pause, thinking about it, and it did make sense.

Fu Xiaoxiao had no presence at home and was often suppressed, not daring to talk back, except for that one day she talked back twice. Otherwise, she would just lower her head when scolded.

”With her personality, after a while, they’d get tired of her, treating her as a maid is more likely.” Fu Xiaocui smiled proudly. ”Mom, you’d better find a good man for me now, so I can marry even better than Fu Xiaoxiao.”

”Xiaocui, you’re still young! There’s no rush.” Mrs. Fu glanced at her younger daughter, shaking her head.

”I’m not young, Mom. I’m already eighteen, an adult.” Fu Xiaocui looked at Mrs. Fu seriously. ”Besides, with such a beautiful face like your daughter, shouldn’t a good man be captured early on?”

”In that case... should we start looking?” Persuaded by Fu Xiaocui, Mrs. Fu looked at her younger daughter, indeed reaching the age of blossoming beauty.

”If you were in the village, you’d be a grandmother by now.” Fu Xiaocui laughed. Several at her school hadn’t finished junior high before being married off by their families.

So getting married now wasn’t too late at all.

”Alright, as she suggested!” Mr. Fu didn’t oppose anymore; indeed, his daughter was at the right age. ”And take a good look for your son as well, find him a good girl!”

”Okay.” Mrs. Fu nodded, planning in her heart to find good matches for both son and daughter.

Fu Xiaocui snorted coldly. ”Dad, but Fu Xiaoxiao, do you know where she’s getting married to?”

”Why?” Mr. Fu looked at his daughter, why go looking for her?

”Hmph, I just want to know which old man she’s married to!” Fu Xiaocui lifted her chin arrogantly; she wanted to surpass Fu Xiaoxiao.

”I’ll find out!” Mr. Fu’s lips curved into a satisfied smile.

Fu Xiaojun lay on his bed, listening as his parents and sister, separated by the curtains, discussed how to outdo Fu Xiaoxiao, and sighed inside.

Since he was little, he knew Fu Xiaoxiao wasn’t living happily in this house. His parents would always favor him and his sister while neglecting Fu Xiaoxiao. Sometimes he felt sorry for Fu Xiaoxiao and would give her some food.

When he grew up, his parents told him he didn’t need to be too kind to Fu Xiaoxiao. She was just a burden, not his real sister, only Fu Xiaocui was.

He watched Fu Xiaoxiao being ordered around, scolded to the point she couldn’t lift her head, and saw Fu Xiaocui taking her things, yet he couldn’t say a word.

Because those were his relatives, and she shared no blood relation with him.

But... his heart ached terribly.

Just like now, they were plotting to make life difficult for Fu Xiaoxiao, and yet he dared not speak for her, only retreating to his bed in avoidance.

”Son, you’ve heard, Fu Xiaoxiao is married now, you ought to start a family too. Stop thinking about what-ifs.” Mr. Fu pulled aside the curtain and returned to his bed, giving Fu Xiaojun a glance, and in one sentence, plunged Fu Xiaojun into a cold abyss.

”Dad... I...” Fu Xiaojun tried to explain but couldn’t form the words.

”You’re a man, even if you don’t say it, I can see it.” Mr. Fu gave Fu Xiaojun a light glance, noting his excessive attention to Fu Xiaoxiao.

”I only see her as a sister.” Fu Xiaojun said seriously, ”You’ve been too hard on her.”

”We’ve raised her for twenty years, what wrong have we done? Did she lack food or clothing? We even paid for her schooling, we’ve done enough for her,” Mr. Fu raised his eyebrows at Fu Xiaojun, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.

”But you clearly...” collected a large sum of money from her mother.

Fu Xiaojun was silenced by Mr. Fu’s glare and couldn’t finish the sentence.

”You’re generous, then return everything to her?” One sentence from Mr. Fu, and Fu Xiaojun was at a loss for words.

Those were things his parents had left for him, what right did he have to say they were too much?

”Couldn’t you have inherited some of my intelligence?” Mr. Fu looked at the speechless Fu Xiaojun, sneering, lying back down.

If he had more than one son, he certainly wouldn’t leave things to him, so disappointing.

From childhood, he considered him in every way, yet here he was, thinking of helping Fu Xiaoxiao, truly brainless.

Not even as good as Fu Xiaocui! That lass resembled him entirely, truly his own blood!
