A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 124: Chapter 124: The Fu Family Discovers

”After the family split up and without the partial old couple, our days have gotten better and better. My mom only had us kids, my second sister and third brother are just like my mom, quick to explode, while my eldest sister, eldest brother, and I are more like dad.”

”You know why I married Li Si. Back then, my mom didn’t want me to marry far away, afraid I’d be bullied by Li Si, and she wouldn’t be able to help being so far away.” Chen Xiu sighed, ”My mom was right, I was bullied by Li Si like this, and I didn’t dare tell them a word.”

”Do you think I’m pathetic or not?”

If it weren’t for Fu Xiaoxiao waking her up, Chen Xiu truly hadn’t realized how pathetic she’d become. She used to be very much like her father, being bullied at her grandparents’ house. Only after she woke up did she understand her mother’s intent.

”It’s good that you start not tolerating being mistreated now.” Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Chen Xiu. The Chen Xiu now was awakened.

Sunlit, confident, no longer afraid.

”Don’t laugh at me, the more I thought about it last night, the angrier I got, and I already wrote a letter to my mom.” Chen Xiu laughed sheepishly. As an adult, this was her first time complaining to her mom.

A little shy, but she wrote quickly, expressing all that was in her heart.

”How long will it take for the letter to reach home?” Fu Xiaoxiao asked curiously.

”To my home, it might take about a week!” Chen Xiu thought for a while and calculated, about seven days.

”What about you? Aren’t you writing a letter home?” Chen Xiu looked at Fu Xiaoxiao. Fu Xiaoxiao hesitated. ”I... don’t have anyone to complain to.”

”Lu Feng treats you that well? Not a single fault?” Chen Xiu asked with a smile.

”No, it’s just that I don’t have anyone to write to.” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled faintly. She wasn’t part of the Fu Family, so who would she write a complaint letter to?

”Sorry, I brought up your sad matter...” Chen Xiu paused, quickly covering her mouth.

”It’s nothing, I’ve long since moved on.” Fu Xiaoxiao shook her head. She wasn’t the original owner; the grievances were faced by the original. The first thing she did when she came through was to distance herself from the Fu Family.

She directly clarified her identity, cut ties, and averted further troubles.

Chen Xiu didn’t know how to comfort her, so she could only give Fu Xiaoxiao a hug.

-

Unbeknownst to them, at this moment, the Fu Family had already learned that Fu Xiaoxiao did not go to the countryside, shocking the whole family.

Only because Fu Xiaocui, who didn’t have to go to the countryside, got Fu Xiaoxiao’s job. After not having to go, she told her classmates about taking over Fu Xiaoxiao’s job. On the day of departure to the countryside, the show-off Fu Xiaocui bid farewell to her classmates, garnering a slew of envious looks, making her feel slightly smug.

She was considering being kind-hearted and having a chat with Fu Xiaoxiao to see her off.

But after waiting for two cars to depart, she didn’t catch sight of Fu Xiaoxiao, and Fu Xiaocui’s face turned grim.

”Oh no, could she have not wanted to go to the countryside and ran away? How could that be? Wouldn’t that ruin our whole family?”

After searching around and not seeing Fu Xiaoxiao, Fu Xiaocui completely panicked and immediately ran back home.

”Mom, something bad happened.”

”What are you doing, what’s so urgent?” Mrs. Fu looked at her daughter with confusion, wiping the sweat off her.

”Dad, big brother, mom! Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t go to the countryside!” Fu Xiaocui shouted.

Mr. Fu and Fu Xiaojun jumped out of bed upon hearing Fu Xiaocui’s words.

”What did you say?”

Now running away as a draft dodger could get you punished.

Mr. and Mrs. Fu exchanged glances; their first instinct was that Fu Xiaoxiao was retaliating against their family, deliberately.

”Wow! I said back then how she just quickly took the money and left, turns out she wanted to take revenge on our family! Trying to ruin our reputation.” Mrs. Fu banged the table in anger.

”Mom, it can’t be! Xiao Xiao isn’t like that.” Fu Xiaojun spoke up for Fu Xiaoxiao, as the second sister had never been that kind of person.

”How do you know she wouldn’t? She’s been pretending to be obedient all along! Said it all so lightly that day, but look at what she’s done.” Mrs. Fu was furious, repeatedly slapping the table.

”Mom, what should we do? If she ran away, would they come and take me to the countryside instead?” Fu Xiaocui cried in panic, thinking if Fu Xiaoxiao ran away, then it would be her turn to go to the countryside.

”No, no, mom definitely won’t let you go to the countryside. That godforsaken place is not for you.” Mrs. Fu hugged Fu Xiaocui lovingly, her precious daughter couldn’t be sent to the countryside.

”Old Fu, say something! What do we do now!” Mrs. Fu looked at her husband, frowning.

”All of you calm down first, let me go over there and ask around, see what Fu Xiaoxiao is up to. We’ve broken ties with her, so her running away shouldn’t affect us too much.” Mr. Fu had already calculated a series of solutions, and after going through them in his head, he still thought it was necessary to first gather some information.

”I said that little brat wasn’t good, black-hearted enough to want to harm my Xiao Cui!” Mrs. Fu said angrily.

”Mom, let’s wait for dad to ask first! What if it isn’t what you think?” Fu Xiaojun still believed Fu Xiaoxiao wasn’t that kind of person.

”Give me some money, I’ll go inquire.” Mr. Fu pursed his lips, asking Mrs. Fu for money.

”Why do you need money to inquire?” Mrs. Fu asked, reluctant to spend money.

”What if it’s because she lacks something, and that’s why she couldn’t go to the countryside, isn’t that a reason worth checking out?” Mr. Fu’s eyes flashed sharply, looking at his foolish wife speechlessly. Would it be smart to immediately say Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t go to the countryside?

Isn’t that just admitting it outright? Fool.

”Then spend less! Otherwise we won’t have enough food for next month.” Mrs. Fu couldn’t argue with Mr. Fu and had no choice but to give him money.

”Nagging.” Mr. Fu glared at her, taking Fu Xiaojun out the door.

”Mom, what do we do? Fu Xiaoxiao wouldn’t really want to harm me, would she?” Fu Xiaocui was scared, curling up in Mrs. Fu’s arms, trembling.

”She won’t, she won’t.” Mrs. Fu hugged Fu Xiaocui, quietly comforting her.

Mr. Fu bought some things and hurriedly went to the neighborhood office.

”Xiaoxiao, my girl!”

Mr. Fu pretended to be out of breath from chasing the bus, standing there with Fu Xiaojun, panting heavily with the items in hand.

”Comrade, you’re late, everyone’s gone already.” Seeing Mr. Fu like this, the staff kindly advised him. ”If you want, you can wait till they reach there, and then find out their address to send it over!”

”Comrade, I don’t even know which group she’s been assigned to, can you help me check?” Mr. Fu’s face was all sweaty, looking as anxious as one could be, and the staff sympathetically looked at the old father.

In the end, their heart softened.

”Alright then, I’ll help you check. What’s your daughter’s name?” The staff led the two into the office, looking at Mr. Fu and asking.

”Fu Xiaoxiao.” Mr. Fu quickly replied.

The staff flipped through the book, looking for Fu Xiaoxiao’s name, but after searching around, he couldn’t find the name Fu Xiaoxiao.

”Are you sure your daughter is part of this cohort of educated youths going out? How come I can’t find her name?” The staff confirmed repeatedly that there was no name for Fu Xiaoxiao.
