Chapter 2041: Chapter 2042: Mushrooms on the Soul

In front of Angel, these wildly growing mushrooms sprang forth once more from the back of his right hand.

Apart from the oddity of his soul’s form, the emotions he emanated were also abnormal.

Generally speaking, unless a soul devolves into an undead, losing consciousness and only knowing slaughter, it wouldn’t release suffocatingly intense malevolence; but now, Angel could clearly sense that Reeves had not yet degraded into an undead, yet the emotions he exuded were already filled with negativity.

Those pale eyes, glowing with a ghostly green light, were brimming with malice, waiting to devour others.

Angel squinted, indeed as Reeves said, Misty Goldlady not only controlled your body in life but continued to parasitize your soul after death.

Angel understood the Land of the Soul to be a higher-dimensional existence.

The fact that Misty Goldlady could influence the Land of the Soul and thereby contaminate souls was truly beyond Angel’s comprehension.

Angel recalled that earlier, Blair said ”Misty Goldlady is the masterpiece of Lord Nuka,” and this so-called Lord Nuka was above Misty Goldlady.

To be able to create such a terrifying existence as Misty Goldlady, this Lord Nuka must be extraordinary... Angel even suspected that this Lord Nuka might be the minister who descended upon this relic.

Unfortunately, there was no information related to Nuka in Reeves’s memory.

Angel’s thoughts returned to the peculiar soul before him, from the viridian light in its eyes and the mushrooms constantly emerging from its body, Angel surmised that maybe the Viridian Mist also existed in his soul.

Angel glanced at the three Misty Goldlady seedlings that fell once more to his shoe heel and sent them a directive charged with emotion.

He wanted to try if he could get the seedlings to extract the Viridian Mist from Reeves’s soul.

Though Reeves had transformed into a soul, the little ones still didn’t warm to him, but since it was Angel’s command, they reluctantly jumped off the shoe and bounced toward Reeves.

However, just as the Misty Goldlady seedlings were about to approach Reeves, he suddenly went berserk, emitting a terrifying howl.

Soul Howl!

The Misty Goldlady seedlings hadn’t expected the sudden attack, instantly dazed, their little mushroom caps twirling on the ground, about to fall over.

Angel hadn’t expected that Reeves, who had just transformed into a spiritual body, could use this common soul skill: the howl.

Though called a howl, it is actually a soul resonance frequency, affecting sentient beings through unique soul frequencies. Generally, the more experienced the soul, the more terrifying its soul howl becomes.

The soul howl executed by Reeves had only average impact, might work on an apprentice, but was ineffective on an official wizard. Against someone like Angel, even if Reeves’s soul howl were ten times stronger, it would be useless.

So Reeves’s supposed sneak attack merely stunned the seedlings, but Angel was unharmed, and with just the pressure emanating from his official wizard status, he suppressed Reeves’s soul into immobility.

After a few seconds of dizziness, the three little ones regained their senses. Angel perceived an emotion of anger from them, perhaps disgruntled at being caught off guard; although they had hesitated at first to approach Reeves, they now charged unhesitatingly toward his spiritual body, their slightly pinkish mouths opened wide, and they bit down fiercely.

After some time, the little ones fell off Reeves’s spiritual body, somewhat bewildered, looking toward Angel.

Without their expression, Angel could see that they hadn’t absorbed the Viridian Mist, since Reeves’s spiritual body remained intact, and the mushrooms continued their attempts to emerge.

”Is it unable to absorb?” Angel queried through emotion.

Unfortunately, the seedlings of Misty Goldlady lacked the intelligence to express completely. From the fragmented emotions, Angel could only decipher: ”It appeared, then disappeared; appeared again, then vanished again...”

Angel pondered, the fact that the seedlings bit into Reeves’s spiritual body showed they sensed the Viridian Mist within the soul; otherwise, they would have directly conveyed to Angel ”absent.”

If the Viridian Mist was indeed present in Reeves’s spiritual body, why couldn’t the seedlings absorb it?

Is it because it appears for a moment and then vanishes again?

Recalling the previous scenario, the Misty Goldlady seedlings bit into Reeves’s spiritual body when his eyes faintly glowed with green light, but after the bite, the green light diminished; maybe the Viridian Mist knew the seedlings intended to absorb it, so it consciously hid?

If this were the case, then is there a way to prevent the Viridian Mist from concealing itself?

Angel contemplated for a long time, unable to find an answer, as his knowledge of Misty Goldlady was limited, mostly derived from Reeves’s accounts. And Reeves’s narrations lacked information about Viridian Mist’s concealment abilities.

Perhaps, is this a special ability possessed solely by the Viridian Mist parasitized within a spiritual body?

If so, resolving it would be quite challenging.

Angel sighed, thinking to himself: Maybe first taking this altered soul outside and find a chance to ask others about it? Isn’t Nis stationed outside the Star Pond? He is a Soul Witch and might possess some knowledge?

Common sense would say this is a relatively optimal choice. However, watching Reeves’s spiritual body continuously sprouting mushrooms, Angel inexplicably recalled the forum discussion about mushrooms: the final stage.

Reeves, while alive, had been manipulated by Misty Goldlady to the final stage, beyond salvation, left only with the path of death.

Now reduced to just a soul, and the soul seemed to be constantly ”mushroomizing.”

Could it be that once the soul becomes thoroughly ”mushroomized,” it too reaches a soul’s ”final stage,” eventually leading to the spirit body’s dispersal, ultimately becoming the nutrient for Duling Garden?

Though it’s merely Angel’s speculation, his intuition tells him this may be true.

Although Angel had little connection with Reeves, his soul’s complete extinction mattered not to Angel, however, if able to save his soul, Angel remained willing to try.

If truly unable to expel the Viridian Mist, Angel would choose to relinquish appropriately.

Thinking this through, Angel decided to calm his mind and ponder carefully if there might be a method to save Reeves’s soul from Misty Goldlady’s invasion?

Minutes passed one by one, Reeves continued to be intimidated by pressure into inaction, yet the mushrooms kept emerging, and by now, there were nine.

At this rate, it probably wouldn’t take a day for him to be covered in mushrooms.

After a long contemplation, Angel still found no solution, so he decided to take a closer look at Reeves.

Just as Angel stared at the unmoving soul before him, a spirit light suddenly flashed in his mind—

For the little ones to successfully extract the Viridian Mist, the Mist must not evade. How to keep the Viridian Mist from evading, Angel had an idea.

Perhaps, the ability of the right eye might be worth a try?
