Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 3615  Staircase Trial

*Thud~*

The first step into the mysterious staircase had been taken.

A single foot rose and sank onto the first step, creating an audible sound due to the silence. The person who took that first step just so happened to be a Fire Dragon Clanʼs inheritor who had supposedly lost his patience.

Everyone closely paid attention to what was happening at this moment.

They were like hungry hyenas, waiting to see what would happen and, depending on the circumstances, waiting to take advantage.

”Ha-ha.” However, Atsuo laughed, ”Hahaha!”

He lunged forward with his body and ultimately brought both feet onto the wide first step, signifying the start of a battle.

”Nothing is happening. Scared retards should stay there and never enter!”

Atsuo turned to look back and cast a mocking gaze at the inheritors. His expression was crazed, which made many unable to understand what he was getting at.

Was the stairs harmless? Or was he goading them into the same situation as him because standing on the stairs became extremely dangerous?

They couldnʼt see through.

However, they were angered because Atsuo raised a middle finger towards them and cockily laughed before he looked towards the front and stepped towards the next step.

Many hearts clenched.

Some inheritors accepted the challenge willfully, but some were goaded into the fear of losing an advantage.

They quickly dashed towards the stairs, causing panic and riot to ensue.

”Aaah! Spare me!”

*Bang!~*

An Immortal Emperor tried to attack an inheritor and just as when his attack was about to land on the inheritor, it dispersed before that Immortal Emperor abruptly scrunched like a piece of paper, crushed into bits before he exploded into a meat paste.

This caused numerous people to be shocked as they understood inheritors canʼt be attacked or would be met with demise.

”No!!!”

*Bang!~*

And then, there were those who tried to take advantage of that rule to attack the bystander.

A similar fate befell an inheritor who tried to take advantage of that rule and attacked an Immortal Emperor, only to have his energy dispersed and then crushed into a meat paste in the same way as the bystander who aggressed an inheritor.

The situation quickly turned chaotic in three seconds but after the fourth second and fifth second, things seemed to calm down.

”Who died?”

”An Immortal Emperor Beast, probably an Ancestor from the Rumbling Turquoise Mammoth Clan and one of the three inheritors from the Star Terror Ape Clan. Those two have a longstanding enmity with the Goldlust Rat Clan and Inferno Wave Ox Clan from time immemorial, so they attacked the other when they got the chance…”

”Thatʼs true!”

Many voices echoed out in an attempt to make sense of things. It quickly made the bystanders and the inheritors understand what was going on, finally allowing them to see what was going on at the staircase.

Davis, Evelynn, Isabella, and Shirley never took their gaze from the staircase, even though they kept a vigilant outlook of the surroundings. No one came to attack them, which was fortunate considering if one of them made the first move, this trialʼs killing formation mightʼve crushed them.

However, they became intrigued.

No one… absolutely no one climbed the stairs other than Atsuo.

It was because Atsuo ultimately didnʼt make the second step, keeping his right foot floating in the air. They all could see clearly despite the sea of people because a projection had come up before the Immortal Dreams Palace, allowing them to see what was going on at the staircase.

At the same time, two counters appeared before the topmost floor of the Immortal Dreams Palace.

[Candidates: 927]

[Ranking: -]

They couldʼve sworn that they had seen [Candidates: 928] when it first appeared, but after a Candidate died, it dropped to nine hundred and twenty-seven.

They couldnʼt believe so many inheritors were participating, but even more than that, one of them died just as the Candidacy began. It was ridiculous, as they expected, making them remain on their toes and keep an eye around vigilantly.

”Whatʼs wrong? Did you forget something?”

”Did you forget your diapers- oh, petite flint dragon?”

”Are you encased in an illusion, or are you pissing your pants, freezing mid-air to stop it from overflowing?”

However, some were confident and tried to mock Atsuo.

They were right before the staircase, waiting for him to take the second step, but he seemed frozen again, as though something was hindering him or he was scared to take the next step.

However, it was just the second step. How hard could it be?

They were filled with doubts, wondering what this Fire Dragon Clanʼs inheritor was up to.

”Are you three not going to go?”

Davis turned to look at his beauties and asked.

They looked at him and shrugged.

”No hurries.”

”It has just started.”

”This isnʼt a race as far as I can tell.”

Isabella, Shirley, and Evelynn smiled in a relaxed manner.

Davis also nodded as he could tell this wasnʼt a race. If it was, then Atsuo would have-

*Whoosh!~*

Atsuo instantly took the second step, placing both his feet on the second step. He firmly stood his ground. However, he didnʼt stop there, he rose to the third step, pounced to the fourth, and made all the way to the fifth step in one fell swoop, causing numerous people to be shocked.

Davis, Evelynn, Isabella, and Shirleyʼs brows raised, as did the others.

Were they wrong? Was the staircase truly just a race?

Why wasnʼt there anything stopping Atsuo?

”Fuck!”

One of the inheritors lost their patience or could no longer wait to see what was going on before they jumped all the way to the third step in one single move.

”…!”

This alarmed many people as they discovered that there was nothing stopping them.

They quickly rushed towards the stairs. These steps looked like they were made for giants, so there was plenty of space for hundreds to cover the same space at once.

Ten… twenty… fifty… ninety… inheritors quickly crossed the first step in a second.

Another ninety quickly entered the first step.

Waves and waves of inheritors occupied the stairs, seemingly unimpeded, which made many hearts sink into unease.

Evelynn, Isabella and Shirley no longer looked relaxed. They looked like they wanted to rush towards the stairs. However, they eventually noticed something and that was the inheritors stopped at a certain step.

”Why are they stopping at the fifth step like Atsuo?” Isabella narrowed her eyes.

”No, look.” Shirley blinked, ”Theyʼre stopping at the fourth step- no, even the third step. Some of the ones who stepped into the fourth step are appearing to have unsightly expressions…”

From behind, they wouldnʼt be able to see anything but the projection allowed them to see the entirety of the staircase, which meant that they could also see the expressions of the inheritors who climbed the staircase.

At this point, there must be around five hundred inheritors on the giant staircase.

They could see thirty-seven inheritors at the fifth step, whose expressions were quite unsightly.

The fourth step had a hundred and ninety-one inheritors looking somewhat fine, but a few didnʼt have good expressions.

As for the third step, it had over two hundred and two inheritors seething with confusion.

As for the second step, they had about seventy, and in the first step, inheritors were continuously pouring in, but many also chose to adopt a wait-and-see attitude on the ground, keenly looking at the changes induced in the inheritors, especially the ones at the fifth step.

What was happening? Why did they look like there was trouble brewing? Were they caught in an illusion or were their Wills being testing?

With no one opening their mouths or making anything known, it was hard to find what was going on until they found it or experienced for themselves.

*Rumble~*

A low, ominous roar filled the air.

At this moment, some kind of change started to happen in the structure of the staircase.
