Chapter 240: A Promiscuous Woman ( 2 )

From a distance, Wang Shen could see a man watering the vegetable gardens. From his movement, he must be a young man and used to doing farm work.

While no one ever met Yao Zhi’s family since she came to find Fu Chen’an alone, they heard about her family’s situation.

Wang Shen knew that Yao Zhi had a brother born from the same father but a different mother. But that brother was younger than her and spoiled by the family. So, her younger brother shouldn’t know how to do farm work.

As for her other relatives, they knew nothing. Therefore, the possibility that the young man was Yao Zhi’s cousin was high.

In most stories, the relationship between cousins was the most ambiguous. To keep the family’s wealth in the family, most people would arrange marriages between cousins.

When she thought about this, Wang Shen suddenly felt worried for Fu Chen’an.

He was an awkward man and didn’t know how to coax his wife. If a cousin suddenly appeared, his relationship with his wife might return to the time when they got married.

Fu Chen’an saved her son’s life. Thus, he was the Xiao family’s benefactor. She should do something to help him.

With this thought, Wang Shen went to the kitchen and got a bowl of boiled meat. She covered the bowl with a piece of clean fabric before she went to visit Yao Zhi.

Not long after, Ling Shi’er heard a knock and raised his head.

The moment Wang Shen saw the man’s face, she was startled. From his features and skin color, she was sure that he was from a foreign country.

In the Great Yan Kingdom, foreigners were not allowed to travel without a permit issued by the government. Unless the foreigners were slaves, they were not allowed to stay in the Great Yan for a long time.

Wang Shen looked at him from head to toe and noticed the scars on his arms. Due to his darker skin color, the scars were not so clear, but from their shape, they must be scars left by a blade a long time ago.

While her thoughts were flying everywhere, Ling Shi’er asked, ”Who are you looking for?”

Hearing this, Wang Shen came back to her senses. She felt afraid when the man stared at her. It took her a while to regain her composure and reply, ”I’m looking for Yao Girl. Is she at home?”

Ling Shi’er didn’t know his Master’s name until now. He repeated the name a few times in his mind before he nodded and said, ”My Master is in the kitchen.”

When she heard this, Wang Shen finally asked, ”Are you a slave?”

Since his Master forbade him to treat himself as a slave, Ling Shi’er ignored her. He put down the ladle and went to the kitchen.

Standing outside the entrance, he cupped his fists, bowed, and said, ”Master, an old woman is looking for you. She is waiting in the front yard.”

”Who is coming at this time?” Yao Zhi muttered to herself as she removed the pot from the stove.

She wiped her hands on her apron as she walked to the front yard. The moment she saw the visitor, a smile appeared on her face. ”Aunt Wang, what brought you here today?”

Wang Shen looked at the young man following her and said, ”Yao Girl, I boiled pork at home and brought some for you.”

”Aunt Wang, you should keep the meat for Xiao Shu,” Yao Zhi refused politely.

”It’s okay, we still have a lot at home,” Wang Shen shoved the bowl into her hand. After a moment of pause, she asked in a low voice, ”Yao Girl, who is that man?”

Yao Zhi already knew that Wang Shen would come when she saw Wang Wuniang.

She had no intention of hiding Ling Shi’er’s identity and said, ”He is a guard I brought back. You know that I plan to raise fish in the pond, and I need someone to watch over it. He will be responsible for guarding the land.”

Hearing this, Wang Shen nodded and heaved a sigh of relief.

Since Yao Zhi didn’t say that this man was a slave she bought, she also didn’t insist on asking. As long as this man didn’t live in the same house as Yao Zhi, it was okay to buy a male slave to work.

After all, with her recent actions of buying land and digging ponds, lots of people had their eyes on her. Having someone to guard the land was not a bad idea.

Noticing Wang Shen’s small movement, Yao Zhi smiled and said, ”Aunt Wang, please wait a moment.”

She went to the kitchen and transferred the boiled pork to her own bowl. Afterward, she filled the bowl with mapo tofu. This dish was best served hot, so she hastened her steps and handed the bowl to Wang Shen.

”Aunt Wang, this dish is called Mapo Tofu. The chili pepper I planted is ready for harvest, and I used it to make this dish. Please have a try.”

Wang Shen was already salivating when she smelled the fragrance of the food. She had already reached her goal in investigating the man’s identity. So, she smiled and said, ”Thank you, Yao Girl. I will go back first.”

”Okay. Be careful on the road, Aunt Wang,” Yao Zhi reminded her.

Due to the cold temperature, the road was slippery even if there was no snow. It was easy for people to slip and fall.

After sending her away, Yao Zhi turned to Ling Shi’er and said, ”Let’s have lunch first.”

Ling Shi’er nodded and finished watering the gardens before he followed her to the kitchen. Before they ate, Yao Zhi asked him to wash his hands with a soap bar and warm water.

Usually, he would only wipe his hands on his clothes before he started eating. This was the first time for him to be so careful with hygiene.
