Transmigrated To Ancient Time: Thrive With An Auction System!

Chapter 229: Buying Slaves ( 2 )

After she gave some instructions to Luo Bo, Yao Zhi drove her horse carriage and returned to Zhu’an Town. She had to cultivate people she could trust so she didn’t have to handle everything by herself.

Along the way, she thought and considered several options. While she disliked the slavery system in this era, buying slaves was the safest option for her.

With the slave deed in her hand, she held the power to decide the slaves’ life and death. Even if they were beaten to death, no one could blame her. Therefore, the case of a slave betraying their master was very rare.

What’s more, after she bought the slaves, even if they got married and had children, all of their descendants would belong to her. This ensured their loyalty to her for generations.

After she considered the pros and cons, she decided to buy some slaves. In the border area, there were only two places that had slave markets: the border town and Luo City.

The nearest one was the border town, so Yao Zhi changed the direction of her horse carriage.

When she arrived at the border town, it was already 10:25 in the morning. Today was not the border market day, so the line waiting to enter the town was short.

To avoid arousing suspicion, she drove the carriage to the roadside far from the town gate. When she was sure that no one was around, she put the horse carriage into her system’s grassland before she joined the line.

Since her current identity was fake, she didn’t have an introduction letter. Recalling the ”tea money” used to smooth out the deed transfer process, Yao Zhi took out several broken pieces of silver from her system’s storage and put them in her sleeve.

Soon after, it was her turn. The guards looked at her from head to toe before one of them said, ”Show your introduction letter.”

”Sir, my bag was stolen by a thief, so I don’t have it.” After she said this, Yao Zhi shoved the silver pieces into the guard’s hand and added, ”Sir, please help me. I need to go inside to report my case and get back my money and introduction letter.”

The guard weighed the silver pieces in his palm for a moment before he said, ”Since this is a special situation, you can go in.”

Hearing this, Yao Zhi bowed to him and said, ”Thank you, Sir.”

After she left, another guard walked over and asked, ”Who is that?”

The guard gave him a piece of broken silver and replied, ”Just a spoiled young master. His belongings were stolen, and he came to report to the Magistrate.”

When he heard this, the other guard shook his head and said, ”The situation at the border is not peaceful. There are so many cases of thieves stealing people’s items. I doubt he would be able to get his belongings back.”

”That’s not our concern.”

The guard nodded in agreement. That person was clearly a citizen of their Great Yan. Since he had shown his goodwill, there was no need to make things difficult.

Not knowing that she was branded as a foolish rich brat by the guards, Yao Zhi asked a pedestrian about the location of the slave market.

This slave market was legal and under the jurisdiction of the town Magistrate. So, there was a plaque hanging at the entrance of the market.

The so-called market was actually a four-story building located in the western area of the town. Taking a deep breath, Yao Zhi finally walked into the building.

The moment she entered, she saw four burly men standing at the entrance. Each of them was holding a large blade. Judging from their darting eyes, they must be the guards.

She observed the entry hall and noticed that it was filled with low-key yet luxurious furnishings. At the end of the entry hall was a long countertop with two beautiful women recording the entries.

When she stood in front of one of them, she greeted her with a smile, ”Greetings, Young Master. What can I do for you?”

Yao Zhi glanced at the list pasted on the wall behind the staff and said, ”I came to buy slaves who are able to read, skilled in serving people, managing shops, or skilled in martial arts.”

Hearing this, the staff smiled and said, ”Young Master, we just received a batch of slaves that fulfill your requirements this morning. Since they are top-quality slaves, you can only buy them through an auction.”

She then handed her a card and said, ”The auction will start in 15 minutes. To join the auction, you have to pay a deposit of 2,000 taels of silver.”

After she heard about the auction, Yao Zhi took out two 10-tael gold ingots from her system’s storage and placed them on the counter.

The moment the staff saw the big gold ingots, her eyes lit up. Most people would use banknotes as a deposit since gold was rarer than silver. This was the first time she saw someone take out 20 taels of gold so casually.

Judging from this alone, she could guess that this person must be very wealthy and that his background was not simple. The staff stored the gold ingots in a small box and handed a jade token to her.

”Young Master, this is your token. A servant will show you the way. Enjoy your time.”

Yao Zhi accepted the jade token, and soon after, a servant walked over. He bowed to her before he gestured to her and said, ”Young Master, this way, please.”

This time, Yao Zhi only nodded at the servant and followed him. She was led to the third floor and went into a private room.

After she took her seat, two maidservants entered while holding trays. One of them brewed a pot of tea while the other served a plate of dried fruits, a bowl of sweet soup, and a plate of wheat cake.

When they were done, they bowed and left the room. The servant closed the door for her when he left.
