Chapter 233: Deathly Secret ( 1 )

Holding the silver, the yamen runner changed his behavior instantly. ”It’s indeed troublesome to travel without any identity. Come inside. I will help you explain it to the clerk.”

”Thank you, Sir.”

The yamen runner led her to the hall and walked past several corridors before they reached the inner area. They entered a hall and saw an old man writing something at a desk located at the side.

Seeing him, the yamen runner walked over, bowed to him, and said, ”Sir, this Young Master lost his belongings and wants to request a new household register and introduction letter.”

The clerk placed his brush down and looked at them. For him to be able to enter the inner hall, he must have given some tea money to the runner.

The old man touched his mustache and asked, ”What’s your name?”

Yao Zhi cupped her fists and replied, ”Greetings, Sir. My name is Lei Feng, and I’m from the south.”

”What is your occupation?”

”I’m a merchant.”

Although the status of merchants was low, they were wealthy. The clerk looked down on them but wanted their money. So after some questioning, he said, ”It’s not easy for me to work during winter.”

The moment she heard this, Yao Zhi understood. She took out one 10-tael silver ingot from her sling bag and handed it to the clerk.

”Sir, it was hard for you. This is a small gesture from me. Please accept it.”

Seeing the glistening silver ingot, the clerk was satisfied. He accepted the money and issued a household register and an introduction letter for her. He even wrote down the name of a city in the south as her hometown.

After she got the documents, she left the yamen and went to a desolate alley. Now that Lei Feng had a legitimate identity, she could put her heart at ease.

Yao Zhi checked her surroundings before she took out a jar of wound ointment.

She transferred the ointment into five smaller jars and put them inside the sling bag. Then, she took out the alcohol, cotton swabs, and bandages from the first aid kit and put them into the bag.

Afterward, she opened the system’s shop and bought winter clothes for the slaves. She didn’t know their sizes, so she bought them based on their heights. Besides the clothes, she also bought underwear for them.

Since she couldn’t give them modern underwear, she opted for ancient styles. She bought three sets of underwear and three sets of winter clothes for each of them.

Recalling their bare feet, she bought each of them a pair of leather shoes. These leather shoes were padded with wool and water-resistant. They were suitable for winter.

All of it cost her a total of 43,425 points. After she bought everything, she put them into two gunny sacks and carried them back to the inn.

When the inn workers saw her carrying the gunny sacks, they cast curious gazes at her but didn’t peer into her business. Yao Zhi returned to her room and placed the sacks on the ground.

She closed the door and took a rest before she took out two meat buns from her system’s storage and ate them. It was now 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and she wouldn’t be able to go back today.

Fortunately, she left a lot of food for Xiao Lu, Ye Ying, and Bai Xue. It should be enough for them to last for three to four days. After she finished her meal, she drank some water and went to take a nap.

When she woke up, the sky had darkened. Yao Zhi stretched her tired body and stared at the ceiling for a moment before she left the bed.

She slung her bag over her shoulder and carried the gunny sacks before she went to the next room. The one staying beside her was the first slave she bought.

After she knocked on the door, it was opened in less than ten seconds. The moment she saw the man standing in front of her, she was surprised.

Now that he had taken a bath and tied up his hair, she was finally able to see his face clearly. She looked at him for a moment before she walked into the room.

With that kind of face, it was no wonder that the women in the slave market insisted on bidding on them.

When the slaves saw her carrying the sacks, one of them reached out and took them from her hands. Yao Zhi let him take them and sat on the chair.

”Close the door and come here.”

Hearing this, both of the slaves walked over after closing the door. They stood in front of her with their heads lowered.

Yao Zhi looked at their faces for a moment before she opened the gunny sacks and rummaged through them.

She took out six sets of men’s underwear and six sets of clothes. Each set had a different style. Then, she took out two pairs of leather shoes.

”Take off your clothes.”

The moment she said this, both men were startled. They looked at her with widened eyes and opened their mouths. They hesitated for a long time before they finally took off their tattered clothes.

Yao Zhi was focused on picking the styles suitable for them and didn’t realize that they had taken off everything, including their underwear.

When she raised her head, she almost fainted at the sight. She quickly turned around and shouted, ”What are you doing?! Who told you to take off everything?!”

They looked at her with doubt but noticed her reddened ears and flushed neck.

After a while, one of them finally said in broken Great Yan language, ”The master told us to undress.”

Hearing this, Yao Zhi was speechless. She let out a sigh and said, ”I did tell you to undress, but I didn’t tell you to stand there naked.”

Taking a deep breath to calm down, she continued, ”I bought some clothes and shoes for you. Each of you gets a pair of shoes, three pairs of underwear, and three sets of winter clothes. Put on your pants.”
