Chapter 231: Buying Slaves ( 4 )

Yao Zhi glared at the guard and said, ”I bought him, and you dare to treat him like that? If he injures his knees and is unable to walk properly, will you compensate me?”

Hearing this, the guard quickly cupped his fists, bowed, and said, ”Young Master, it’s my fault for acting without your permission. Please forgive me.”

Seeing this, Yao Zhi waved her hand and said, ”Leave.”

The guard glanced at the slave and hesitated for a moment. But thinking about the guards stationed outside, he was not worried about this slave running away.

After he left, Yao Zhi walked over to the slave and held his arm. She could feel his body stiffen when she touched him, but he held back and let her pull him up.

Due to her height, she had to raise her head to look at his face. Seeing his pale, chapped lips, she pulled him to the table and said, ”Sit down.”

During the time he spent in the slave tower after being caught, he learned what he should and shouldn’t do as a slave. One of them was that he was not allowed to sit at the same table as his master.

Noticing his subtle movement, Yao Zhi pushed him down and said, ”Now that I’m your master, you only need to listen to me. When I tell you to sit, you will sit.”

Hearing this, the man finally sat down. He clenched his fists and placed them on top of his thighs. His head was lowered, as he was not allowed to look at his master directly.

Yao Zhi sighed when she saw this. She reached under the table and took out a sling bag from her system’s storage. Using it as a cover, she took out a waterskin and poured a cup of water for him.

This water had been mixed with a drop of spiritual spring water. This should be enough to help him recover some of his strength.

”Drink.”

This time, the man didn’t hesitate and drank the water directly. Yao Zhi was speechless when she saw him acting as if he were drinking poison.

Shaking her head, she said, ”I spent a lot of money to buy you. I won’t let you die. Otherwise, I will waste my money.”

Just after she said this, another slave was sent to her room. She waved for the guard to leave and bid for the slave being auctioned below.

”400 taels of silver!”

She already knew that no one would be able to snatch the slave from her at this price. Although it was very expensive, she had a lot of money.

She could imagine what kind of life these slaves would have if they were bought by wicked people. So, she considered herself to be doing a good deed and gaining merit.

The similar situation continued until the last war-captive slave was bought by her.

”The next batch is the state slaves! They are the family members of Marquis Yongning. Bring them up!”

When the host announced the next batch, the young woman who failed to buy the slaves was enraged.

She threw the teacup to the ground and said, ”Investigate! Find out who that bastard is! I want to see who dares to snatch things from me!”

The maidservant quickly bowed and said, ”Yes, Miss.”

She came only for those male slaves and was not interested in Marquis Yongning’s family at all.

After she calmed down, she left the private room. But before she could leave the second floor, she was stopped by one of the staff members.

”Miss, you have to compensate for the teacup you broke. It was a set, and losing one will lower the price of the entire set.”

”How much is it?” the young woman asked with a frown.

”This tea set was a work of Master Chen and cost 500 taels of silver.”

Hearing this, the young woman widened her eyes in shock. ”500 taels of silver?! Why don’t you go rob someone?!”

”Miss, this is the price we paid to buy this tea set. We didn’t take any advantage of you,” the staff member said.

Noticing that more and more people were staring at her, the young woman finally gritted her teeth and said, ”Just deduct it from my deposit.”

The staff member smiled and replied politely, ”Thank you for your understanding, Miss.” After she said this, she handed a wooden box to her. Inside was the teapot and 3 teacups.

The young woman flicked her sleeve and left in anger while her maidservant accepted the wooden box.

The deposit was borrowed from her brother, and she had to return it later. Thinking about losing money but getting nothing, she hated that person even more.

At the same time, 20 tall men sat inside Yao Zhi’s private room. Fortunately, the room was spacious and had enough space for everyone.

She had asked the staff to bring over stools for them and gave them some water to drink. She also asked the staff to bring more sweet soup for them. Since she requested it, the sweet soup was not free. Each bowl costs her 20 Wen.

While her newly bought slaves were drinking the soup, she looked at the people dragged onto the stage.

This time, they were female slaves. Judging from their faces, the oldest one should be in her early twenties, and the youngest one was only three years old.

Since Marquis Yongning committed a capital crime, all of the male descendants were beheaded, the servants were exiled, and the female family members were sold as state slaves.

This was a way for the Emperor to prevent the family of Marquis Yongning from seeking revenge. Without a male descendant, it was equal to ending their family’s lineage.

As Yao Zhi thought about this, the situation below was reaching its peak. Unlike the male slaves, more people, especially the male guests, were interested in these female slaves.

Although she couldn’t hear what they were saying, she could guess what they were thinking just from their lewd expressions and gestures.

Her eyes darkened when she thought about the possibilities waiting for these women in the future.
