Chapter 191: Brewing Apricot Wine

Yao Zhi used a bamboo ladle and filled a small wine cup with the wine. Afterward, she took a sip and savored the taste.

The initial taste was the nutty and earthy flavor, but after a moment, she could taste a subtle sweetness with an aromatic floral fragrance. At the end, the taste was sharper than usual millet wine, with a lingering fruity, slightly acidic aftertaste.

Even if she didn’t know how to appreciate wine, she knew that this batch of wine was good wine. Feeling delighted, she quickly took out the strainer, cheesecloth, a big basin, and the wine jars.

The jars were bought from the system for 2 points each, and she bought a total of 100 jars. Each jar can store 2 liters of wine. She had sterilized the tools and dried them completely.

Now, she needed to strain the millet wine and store it in the wine jars. She covered the strainer with cheesecloth before she poured the millet wine onto it.

She continued until the basin was 80% full before she used a bamboo ladle to transfer the wine to the wine jars. When the grains and longans piled up on the strainer, she squeezed them through the cheesecloth, trying to get as much liquid as possible.

She worked for more than 2 hours before she finished straining everything. At this moment, all of the wine jars were filled, and there were still more than 20 liters of wine left.

She looked at the wine in the ceramic vat and decided to use glass bottles to store the rest of the wine. Just in case her husband wanted to drink some wine, she wouldn’t have to open the wine jars.

When she was done, she used the beeswax and cloth method to seal the wine jars. After she closed the jars with the lids, she melted the beeswax and used a brush to brush the melted wax into the gap between the lid and the jar.

Afterward, she covered the lid with a piece of thick cloth over the top and brushed it with more beeswax. While this method could create an airtight barrier, this method took a long time.

When Yao Zhi finished sealing the jars, it was already past noon. She pounded on her aching shoulders, back, and waist for a while before she stored all the sealed wine jars into her system’s storage.

She took a break and had her lunch before she cleaned the ceramic vat and let it dry. Then, she took out a total of 500 kilograms of fresh apricots from her system’s orchard.

Since the fruits were clean and dry, she skipped the washing and air-drying step to preserve the wild yeast on the skin. She then removed the pits and crushed the fruits into pulp.

Afterward, she bought 125 kilograms of sugar from the system’s shop, costing her 500 points. Besides sugar, she also bought five bags of Qu, costing her 15 points. Then, she bought 3 more ceramic vats, costing her 15 points.

After everything was ready, she layered the crushed apricots at the bottom, around 10 to 15 cm thick, then layered the top with sugar.

She repeated the layering until the ceramic vat was 80% full and ended the layer with sugar. Then, she mixed the Qu on the top layer and added five drops of spiritual spring water.

When she was done, she covered the opening with cloth and stored it in her system’s farmland. She repeated the process until all of the fruit mash, sugar, and Qu were used up, filling five ceramic vats.

The next step would be stirring the wine for 3 days before she covered the vats with a linen cloth for another 5 days.

When she was done, the sky had darkened. Yao Zhi went to take a bath and have her dinner before she went to sleep.

The next day, Yao Zhi woke up when the sky was still dark. She opened the window and saw that the moon was still up in the sky. Judging from how chilling the wind was, it must not yet be dawn.

She tidied up her bed, changed her clothes, tied her hair, and wore an old coat before she left the room. Since the moonlight was dim, she opened the system’s shop and bought a solar-powered flashlight, costing her 5 points.

This flashlight was fully charged and could last for 8 hours before it needed to be recharged. When the battery was empty, it only needed 3 hours under strong sunlight to fully charge.

After she bought the flashlight, Yao Zhi turned it on. In an instant, the area within a radius of 150 meters was illuminated. The farther the distance, the dimmer the light. But with a rough calculation, the light could reach an area 200 meters away from her location.

Seeing this, she was satisfied with the quality of the flashlight.

The light was so bright that if people saw it, they might think she was using sorcery. Fortunately, it was nighttime, and everyone was in deep sleep. So, no one noticed that her house was brightly lit.

Yao Zhi quickly changed the mode to the dimmest level. It had a total of 4 levels, from brightest to dimmest. Besides that, it also had a flashing mode for SOS.

Seeing that the light was not as bright as before, she heaved a sigh of relief and walked to the wasteland area. At this moment, besides herself, her wolves were also following her in silence.

When they reached the area where the mud ovens were built, Yao Zhi turned off the flashlight and opened the system’s husbandry. She checked the warehouse and saw a lot of fertilizer stored inside.

She thought for a moment before she asked, ”System, I have blood meal and locust powder. Can I use the system to mix them with the fertilizer?”

Soon after, a mechanical voice echoed in her mind. ”Greetings, Host. The system can help you mix the fertilizer to improve your land’s soil quality.”
