Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 898: Chapter 384: Remodeling Ceremony_2

Connor did not hesitate, and said directly:

”The Transcendent collaborating with me is someone from Her Majesty Olivia.”

Wu Chang paused for a moment after hearing this and asked: ”All of them?”

This time it was Connor’s turn to be stunned, ”What do you mean?”

Wu Chang explained, ”I’m asking whether those miner thieves from Pine Tree Coal Mine and the Transcendent who handed you the Conservative Party evidence are all from Her Majesty the Queen?”

When Wu Chang mentioned the miner thieves from Pine Tree Coal Mine, Connor couldn’t help but twitch his eyelid; he hadn’t expected Wu Chang to know about that as well.

After a brief surprise, Connor’s expression returned to calm; yes, if it weren’t for this level of competence, the Sean in front of him wouldn’t be able to lead the Secret Security Department.

He nodded and said, ”They are all from Her Majesty the Queen.”

The reason Connor came to Wu Chang seeking protection, apart from their cooperation, was also because of this layer of relationship with the Queen.

In his view, he and the Sean in front of him were both working for the Queen; they had the same patron, just one in the open, the other in hiding, but they were all one family.

Wu Chang furrowed his brow and fell into contemplation.

Before, through the Power of Root, he had confirmed that the Transcendent who privately met with Connor after Nestor’s funeral was Phantom.

He hadn’t expected Phantom to only superficially join the Liberal Party but actually be working for Olivia; it seems he’s not the only one who thought of sending subordinates as undercover agents; others had the same idea.

When did Phantom connect with Olivia?

Was it before the Transcendent gathering or after?

If it was after the Transcendent gathering, that would be easier to explain.

But if it was before the Transcendent gathering, Phantom expressing his willingness to join the Secret Magic Knight Order was that Olivia didn’t trust him, so she was planting spies by his side?

Aside from Phantom’s identity, the identity of those miner thieves is also a problem.

He exchanged a glance with Raventon, both reading a hint of confusion in each other’s eyes.

The miner thieves at Pine Tree Coal Mine are the only remaining clue in the Prime Minister assassination case; if those miners are Olivia’s people, does that mean the assassination attempt is actually related to Olivia?

There are many things that don’t make sense; it can’t be inferred in such a simple way.

Wu Chang decided to put the matter aside for now and continued to inquire about the true situation of the Hall Company.

Regarding Hall Company, Connor described it without any pressure.

What he wrote in the report was mostly true, matching the insider information Wu Chang had leaked to him before, only concealing the involvement of the Extraordinary Steam Engine and the Transcendent.

Concerning the Industrialist Association, their patron indeed is the Conservative Party.

The Conservative Party covets the huge profits brought by industry, but although they have wealth and ability, they don’t understand much about industry, so they could only collaborate with some factory owners who weren’t large enough to stand as a self-sustained entity.

As for the companies within the Industrialist Association, due to their dangerous and aggressive actions, they were never truly accepted by the Liberal Party, and both sides struck a deal quickly.

After explaining the behind-the-scenes Extraordinary Influence and the intelligence related to Hall Company, Connor also spoke of many things he had done before.

For instance, the miner thief group entering Pine Tree Coal Mine was deliberate; they first locked onto a few mining areas as suspicious sources through the unusual flow of coal essence on the black market before conducting an infiltration investigation.

The two exchanged a few words with Connor, then let him go to rest for now and not leave the Secret Security Department headquarters for the next few days.

After Connor left, Wu Chang looked at Raventon and asked:

”What’s your take on the Prime Minister assassination case?”

Raventon’s response was very firm; he said, ”The assassin who killed Prime Minister Ron absolutely cannot be someone from Her Majesty the Queen.”

Wu Chang was somewhat surprised by Raventon’s stance, and pursued, ”Why?”

Raventon answered, ”The reason is straightforward, because from the very start, Prime Minister Ron was Her Majesty the Queen’s most steadfast ally.”

”Whether it was cutting ties with the Saint Bishop, establishing Grimlan University, or promoting Extraordinary Industrialization and repealing the Corn Laws, Prime Minister Ron made these decisions together with Her Majesty the Queen.”

”Her Majesty the Queen managed to break free from control and became a true queen only because we supported her in the shadows; but for her to transform from a figurehead into a queen with actual speech rights, representing Stilan, that relied mainly on Julie and Prime Minister Ron.”

Raventon paused his speech briefly before continuing: ”Indeed, Prime Minister Ron’s contribution was much greater than Julie’s.”

Wu Chang said, ”Even between the best allies, there are inevitably times when they don’t see eye to eye, can’t it be that they clashed over some major issues, forcing Her Majesty Olivia to act?”

Raventon shook his head and said: ”It wouldn’t be like that, because Her Majesty the Queen and Prime Minister Ron, in their bones, are the same type of people.”

”For the rise of Stilan, they would spare no effort, use any means necessary. They share the same goal and are willing to risk everything for it; even if there were ideological conflicts, their rationality would lead to one side persuading the other, instead of resorting to assassination.”

Wu Chang lightly tapped the table with his fingers and said:

”Of the three soul figures of the charter movement, one was silenced by the Steam Council, another was eliminated by the Liberal Party, and the only one who is Her Majesty Olivia’s informant is still seeking our protection.”

”Clearly, Prime Minister Ron’s assassination should have nothing to do with the charter movement. Based on your current conclusion, was the action taken by the Liberal Party, Conservative Party, or the Steam Council?”

Raventon said, ”For now, it seems like the Conservative Party suspects are greatest, followed by the Steam Council.”

Wu Chang tapped the Bright Lamp Report on the table and said: ”Since that’s the case, we should personally visit Chief Justice Gascogne and Sir Brook who eliminated Nestor tonight.”
