Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 865: Chapter 373: Another Extraordinary Steam Engine (2)

Raventon, who was walking, stopped, turned around, and delivered a massive kick, sending the talking gangster flying.

”Say one more useless word, and I’ll smash all your teeth. How does Charlie manage the newbies, it’s getting more and more unruly.”

Watching the cursing Raventon, Jimmy and the others looked somewhat evasive; it was a familiar taste, a familiar feeling.

The discrimination against Gael people by the Stilan Society is very serious, making it difficult for Gael people to become police officers. Yet, once they do become officers, they often treat Gael people more harshly to win the recognition of their fellow officers, fearing whispers behind their backs that ’a country bumpkin in police uniform is still a country bumpkin.’

They both hate these Gael officers, yet they can only connect with the Police Hall through them to do some shady business or rescue people who have been incarcerated.

Jimmy and the others dared not speak at all, watching Wu Chang and Raventon enter the factory district, then following them from a distance.

Walking ahead, Raventon spoke softly:

”This gang is just like this; if you show them any kindness, they’ll be suspicious, thinking you have ulterior motives.”

”The more brutishly you act, seeming like a lower-level officer, the more at ease they are, not worrying about us uncovering anything.”

The textile factory district is littered with spies from various factory owners, including these gangsters.

If you don’t actively approach them and dispel their distrust, within five minutes, the target we’ll investigate will be informed of our actions, and if they destroy the evidence, it’ll be too late.

Taking left and right turns in the alley and confirming the result against the note several times, the two arrived in front of a small house.

The house appeared gray-black, slightly better in appearance compared to the Thomas family’s small house, but only marginally.

Raventon knocked on the door, and a few seconds later, the door opened, revealing a boy of about eight or nine years old, looking apprehensively at the two.

Raventon, with his face tense, said impatiently:

”Green?”

The little boy nodded.

”Did you report to the police station last night that there’s a mysterious death in your home?” Raventon confirmed.

The boy opened the door, tearfully saying:

”Officer, sir, my mom came home yesterday morning after her night shift, seeming energetic. After eating and taking a nap, she stopped breathing.”

”I went to find Old Strange at the street corner, and he said my mom was dead, a natural death.”

”I don’t believe it, there must be something wrong.”

Raventon coldly said, ”Shut up and leave the room, whether it’s a natural death, we’ll come to a conclusion.”

Green shivered, forcing back his tears and standing obediently outside.

Soon, Wu Chang heard someone asking Green what happened from beyond the door, sounding like the gangster who was kicked flying earlier.

Raventon spread his hands: ”No choice, we have to do things ’by the book’ and openly.”

”Trust me, if we show any abnormal behavior, that kid won’t be able to stay here anymore.”

While speaking, Raventon lifted the white cloth covering the bed and observed the deceased on the bed.

It’s winter now, and the night temperature has already dropped below zero. Due to the poor insulation of Green’s house, the body is well preserved with little sign of decay.

According to standard procedure, Raventon first examined the body.

”The body has completely cooled; the corneas are gray-white, indicating the time of death is close to 24 hours.”

”Judging from the corpse spots, there’s no sign of it being moved, and the surface has no obvious injuries or signs of binding; the expression is peaceful, without suffering, likely dying in sleep.”

”The lip color is normal, showing no signs of abnormal bleeding, temporarily seeming to be not poisoned.”

He continued to study for a while, then shook his head:

”From the current situation, she died naturally. I can tell from her hands she experienced very heavy labor before her death. If handed to a forensic doctor to determine, her cause of death should be the common overwork.”

Raventon took out his usual hand squeeze dust sprayer, intending to squeeze it, then stopped, concerned about leaving traces at the scene.

He looked at Wu Chang and said, ”Now it’s your turn, see if your Inspiration-style investigation can uncover some different information.”

Wu Chang pressed down on Raventon’s shoulder, pushing him aside and standing before the deceased.

From the moment he entered, he saw a faint red resentment on the deceased’s surface; he could indeed find anomalies.

His gaze landed on the faint red resentment. In the scattered light red mist, his perspective gradually detached, moving into a third-person view, seeing the woman alive before him.

It was apparent it was a textile workshop, with two men pulling the woman, urging her to leave.

The woman pleaded: ”Please let me work a little longer, I really need the job.”

One man said: ”No, you’ve already worked eighteen hours today, exceeding the limit, leave quickly!”

The woman said: ”Just one more hour, just one hour!”

Another overseer with a whip at his waist shouted: ”Get out, your kid is waiting for you to come home. Cause trouble again, mind the whip!”

The woman’s resentment abruptly ended here, seeming her unresolved issue before dying was not being able to continue working, rather than anything else.

Wu Chang’s consciousness exited the resentment, his expression becoming peculiar.

Judging from the conversation among the three, it appeared to be a mother driven by life’s circumstances, urgently needing money to earn a little more overtime pay.
