Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 853: Chapter 369: Final Battle for the Invitation Letter (Part 2)

Workers shouldn’t wait for the nobles to find their conscience; they should take up arms and engage in armed struggle.

Because of this, Henry has made many radical statements, especially against Prime Minister Ron.

Almost every time a workers’ protest was suppressed by force, he would make statements in the Bright Lamp Report, asserting that Prime Minister Ron would eventually pay the price for such actions.

If the prime minister’s assassination attempt is related to the Charter Movement, it must have something to do with Henry.

Using Henry as bait could both test the Charter Movement’s role in the prime minister’s assassination case and draw out the Steam Council, achieving two goals at once.

When Wu Chang himself and Raventon were setting up the plan, True Self had already arrived at the Bright Lamp Newspaper Office once again.

This time when entering, Jennifer did not stop him but said:

”Mr. Connor is waiting for you in the office.”

Wu Chang entered Connor’s office, and like yesterday, first set up a sound insulation barrier using a mystical ceremony, then hurriedly placed a pardon order on Connor’s desk before he could speak.

The content of the pardon order was simple, releasing all workers arrested for participating in the Pine Tree Coal Mine explosion protest and declaring them innocent.

”Mr. Connor, I’ve fulfilled the conditions I promised. Have you reached a decision internally?”

Connor glanced at the pardon order on the table and said:

”Last night, I received news of their release. We’ve seen enough of your sincerity. So, I hope our cooperation will be pleasant.”

Since Connor had decided to cooperate, Wu Chang did not hold back and said:

”In that case, we can now begin our first cooperation.”

”Mr. Connor, I know your Bright Lamp Report is very popular among the workers and is very influential at the grassroots.”

”Someone told me that in the Grimland East District, as well as on the south shore of the Hills River, wherever there is the sound of gears turning, you have your informants.”

Connor corrected, ”Those are not our informants, just ordinary workers who are oppressed by reality and are in desperate need of a better living situation.”

Wu Chang shrugged and said indifferently, ”Whatever you call them, I need that Power, that almost omnipresent intelligence network.”

”Regarding Grimland’s anomalies, we talked about it yesterday; you provide us information, and we’ll handle the issues you can’t solve, a win-win situation.”

Connor was silent for a moment, then took out a paper bag from his desk drawer, walked around the desk, and handed it to Wu Chang.

”Inside is what you want.”

Wu Chang calmly accepted the paper bag, took out the documents inside, and saw the title at the top of the document:

”Malaria outbreak in the South Shore Textile District of the Hills River, with a death rate of 30%, far exceeding other areas in Grimland.”

Wu Chang frowned slightly; the case Connor wanted him to investigate had nothing to do with the Pine Tree Coal Mine and couldn’t be linked to the Steam Council, leaving him somewhat disappointed.

But his expression quickly recovered, realizing that Connor also knew the Pine Tree Coal Mine was a deep issue, and in their first cooperation, lacking mutual understanding, reservations were natural.

He looked at the document and asked, ”What’s the issue here?”

Connor said, ”The living conditions in the Textile District are indeed poor, but Grimland’s textile factories are not only concentrated on the South Shore in the East District but also along several tributaries of the Hills River to the east.”

”The South Shore Textile District is neither the center of the malaria outbreak nor the only textile district; the current death rate indicates an absolute anomaly behind it.”

Wu Chang flipped through the documents, which showed the detailed data, indicating a significantly irrational spike in the death rate of workers in the South Shore Textile District in recent days.

He asked, ”With such an obvious anomaly, why couldn’t your people find the cause and had to hand it over to us?”

Connor sighed and said, ”The Textile District is different from other areas; it is inhabited by textile workers who have long been oppressed and have grown accustomed to dependence and obedience to factory owners, not daring to resist.”

”The South Shore Textile District, in particular, is like this; our people have investigated many times, but the textile workers did not mention the anomalies at all, even reporting our people to the factory owners.”

”More than four journalists have already disappeared during investigations, with their bodies found in the Hills River days later.”

At this point, Connor’s tone was filled with helplessness.

”We can only help those willing to accept help and change their situation; for those resigned to their fate, we can’t do anything—it’s up to you to see if you have any solutions.”

Wu Chang put the documents back in the paper bag and said:

”Sure, our people will conduct the investigation; if there’s a result, we’ll notify you at the first opportunity.”

Connor sincerely said, ”Thank you.”

When Wu Chang left the Bright Lamp Newspaper Office, he saw Sword Star setting up a stall not far away.

Sword Star adjusted his sunglasses down and exchanged a look with Wu Chang, who understood his intention.

He first took a walk around the area and, seeing Sword Star preparing to close the stall, went ahead to the room where they met yesterday.

Cold Mountain and the others were already waiting inside. Less than two minutes after his arrival, Sword Star returned as well.

Cold Mountain took out an issue of the Hills Daily, pointed to a confident smiling Sir Sean in front of the camera, and asked:

”Mr. Peace, is this newly appointed Minister of Secret Security the Knight Order Leader of the Secret Magic Knight Order you mentioned?”

Wu Chang looked at the newspaper Cold Mountain had produced, thinking that Stilan indeed published impressive photos as the most authoritative newspaper.
