Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 861: Chapter 372: Synchronized Missions and Roleplay

Wu Chang finished recruiting the last Secret Magic Knight, turned back the way he came, and walked toward Julie.

Phantom set the cracked wine glass aside, looked at Wu Chang walking toward him, and a hint of helplessness flashed in his eyes.

He clearly could have recruited him directly, yet he just had to give him a slap in the face first, willing to waste a faction slot to recruit some seemingly mediocre guy rather than admit he was outstanding.

Heh, young people just can’t sit still.

Since Peace wanted to save face, he didn’t mind giving it to him; after all, he was a mature, steady old Player, long past the age of scrambling for the spotlight.

Phantom waited for Wu Chang to speak, but who knew Wu Chang would walk right past him, go up to Julie, and say:

”Archbishop Julie, the Secret Magic Knight Order has filled all its positions. There’s still work to be done in the Knight Order, so I’ll be taking my leave first.”

Wu Chang didn’t bother to lower his voice, and Phantom, whose attention was entirely on him, heard every word clearly.

Phantom froze on the spot, watching Wu Chang’s departing back, his pale face flushing red in an instant.

Leaving Saint George’s Cathedral, Wu Chang immediately saw Booker and Veronica waiting outside.

Booker had a thick skin; he rushed to speak first:

”Boss Peace, does your organization still have openings? I’m a pure-blood Cowboy, grew up in the saddle when I was a kid. Whether it’s riding a horse or driving a carriage, I’m just as skilled as when I’m riding a motorcycle.”

Wu Chang pulled out two Identity Cards and handed them over, saying:

”The coachman slot is already taken, you can’t beat him for it. But we’re all old friends here, so I saved the two of you a spot.”

”If there’s nothing else, you can head over to the Secret Security Department to report in right now.”

The two took the Identity Cards, and without a trace of hesitation chose to accept the recruitment.

After sending them off, Wu Chang began to tally his current lineup.

Although he had brought in quite a few through connections, he also had no shortage of powerful Players.

He had both Cold Mountain and Divine Tongue, two ranked Players, as well as Killing Intent Fluctuation and Sword Star, two experts in the top fifty of the combat power rankings. Ma Jia had concealed his true strength, but judging by Wu Chang’s perception, he should also have top-fifty level strength.

Even not counting his own above-the-rankings strength, purely in terms of the combat power of a normal faction, the Secret Magic Knight Order he belonged to was already the strongest Player faction.

Moreover, within the Secret Magic Knight Order, there were also a large number of native Transcendents from this Plane who could provide no small amount of power.

With such a group of powerful Players under his banner, next it was time for them to show their worth.

The West District was the political center of Grimland.

Bai She Avenue in the West District was the center of the center, and also the representative of the administrative departments.

The Parliament Building, the Prime Minister’s Residence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Police Hall and other institutions were all located here.

The Secret Security Department’s office location was, of course, also here.

The place where the Secret Security Department was located was called Bai She No. 6, a three-story gray-white office building, very new, just built not long ago.

This building originally belonged to the Police Hall.

Prime Minister Ron was a staunch order-above-all believer. In order to deal with the steadily rising crime rate in the city and the growing wave of workers’ marches, he vigorously pushed for the expansion of the Police Hall.

With the Prime Minister’s backing, the Police Hall’s budget was especially generous; this building had originally been prepared as a new office building for the Police Hall’s senior leadership.

A month ago, the renovations inside had just been completed, the furniture and fixtures were all brand new, and the Police Hall higher-ups hadn’t yet had time to move in.

Before they could find time to relocate, the Pine Tree Coal Mine explosion, the workers’ movement, and the assassination attempt on the Prime Minister came one after another.

They had planned to wait until things calmed down and the World Industrial Exposition was over before moving, but they hadn’t expected that wait to become a final farewell.

The department had been established, but Wu Chang still lacked an office location. He took his people for a stroll down Bai She Avenue and immediately took a fancy to this place.

As for Wu Chang’s request to take the place, Prime Minister Glad naturally had no objections; after all, the entire Secret Security Department was a product of compromise between Glad and the Queen.

Since Glad had no objections, the Queen naturally had none either.

The Police Hall did have opinions, but in name the Secret Security Department was their superior; even if they had opinions, they were useless.

And so Bai She Avenue No. 6 ended up going cheaply to Wu Chang and his Secret Security Department.

By the time he arrived at Bai She Avenue No. 6, aside from Cold Mountain and Sword Star—the two undercover agents who needed to keep up appearances and be publicly separated from the others—the rest of the Secret Magic Knight Order members had all arrived.

The Players who had attended the Extraordinary gathering had left the scene almost at the same time as True Self.

Looking at the twenty Secret Magic Knights before him, Wu Chang was very satisfied with his current lineup.

In front of everyone, Wu Chang, with his main body, expressed absolute trust in True Self.

Sir Sean didn’t even ask many questions about the people Peace had provided; he simply said, ”I trust your judgment,” and then held a simple onboarding ceremony for the Players.

That kind of absolute ease of mind made not only the Players, but even Raventon—who was already familiar with Wu Chang—feel a bit weak in the knees watching.

While the Players were receiving basic training, he pulled Wu Chang’s main body aside and asked:

”Is that guy called Peace really that trustworthy? The ones he recruited all look strong, sure, but what if some of them are Steam Council plants?”

Wu Chang replied carelessly:

”Even the most central Lower Council of Stilan got an undercover like Baron Philip mixed in. All the more reason a Secret Magic Knight Order would.

”Even if they’re clean today, who can guarantee they won’t be bought out by the Steam Council tomorrow?”
