Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 669: Chapter 308: The Plane on the Verge of Collapse

Wu Chang noted down Mavira’s suggestion. Time waits for no one, so they quickly formulated a plan and implemented it that same day.

With Mavira’s help, he bribed Amber’s class teacher with a dinner, getting her to assign a special class project for Amber’s class.

The theme of the assignment is to envision the future, with the specific topic being—”What kind of person do I want to be when I grow up.”

The assignment requires each student to write about the profession they want to pursue in the future and conduct social practices for three days to a week to understand this job.

For primary school students, there’s no clear perception of either growing up or future professions.

Aside from popular choices like scientists, millionaires, or movie stars, most of Amber’s classmates chose their parents’ current professions.

Such as doctors, lawyers, or police officers.

The students attending Nokes Primary School all belong to families with middle-class or higher living standards. Apart from special professions like superheroes or plumbers, police officer is the lowest profession they can accept.

If this were Milan Street, or even the schools around Romance Street, student responses might be chefs, postmen, or even gang members.

Amber wasn’t very interested in studying and didn’t crave the spotlight like Grace; scientists and movie stars were not her choices.

Wu Chang thought Amber might aim to be like him or Erin, becoming a teacher, doctor, or a Fighting Master.

After all, Amber’s Upper Hook punch on the old school building’s rooftop was impressive, and she’s defeated the Mirror Killer solo in the Mirror World numerous times, proving her fighting talent is strong enough for her to become a female Fighting Master.

Yet Amber’s answer was both unexpected to Wu Chang and actually quite reasonable.

Amber wants to become the director of an orphanage.

Upon hearing Amber’s response, Wu Chang and Erin, hiding outside the classroom door eavesdropping, fell silent.

Affected by melodramas, Erin’s eyes turned slightly red, filled with pain, while Wu Chang sighed helplessly.

Annoyingly, despite having 60 points of approval, he still couldn’t beat Amanda the nun.

As with yesterday, the school life that followed was peaceful, quickly leading to the end of the school day.

After school, according to the class teacher’s assignment requirements, the students need to undertake social practices.

Amber’s practice location was naturally the orphanage where she previously stayed.

On the way to the orphanage, Wu Chang advised:

”Amber, I understand your feelings, but regarding life plans, as parents, we still need to offer you some advice.”

”Being the director of an orphanage is not easy. A person needs more than ideals; they need bread, and in this profession, you can’t have vegetables at every meal.”

”Won’t you consider being a teacher or a Fighting Master? Then I could teach you at home.”

Wu Chang can guarantee that his suggestion comes from the heart, not due to a man’s damned desire to win.

Amber shook her head, saying, ”I’ve heard people say those things before, but I still want to give it a try.”

Wu Chang showed a defeated expression and continued asking, ”Then would you like to visit the monastery first?”

To ensure the orphanage director is compassionate and kind-hearted, the director is usually selected from high-ranking clergy of the monastery. To become an orphanage director, one must first become a qualified Great Nun.

To their surprise, Amber showed clear resistance, saying:

”I don’t want to go to the monastery, nor do I want to believe in God. I simply want to do something for the orphanage.”

Wu Chang shrugged, ”Alright, it’s up to you.”

Entering the orphanage, Amber visibly relaxed, feeling a sense akin to returning to No. 26 Garden Street, even closer.

Amber’s closeness to this place doesn’t mean its people would reciprocate.

Susan, the director, frowned upon seeing Amber brought by Wu Chang and Erin, showing obvious dissatisfaction.

She first glared at Amber, snorted coldly, and said, ”Believe me, not everyone gets a second chance; you’ll regret today later.”

After scolding Amber, she blocked Amber, smiled at Wu Chang and Erin, and said:

”Has this child caused any trouble again? I’ll be sure to talk to her later. If there’s any loss, I’ll try my best to compensate. But I hope this is the end of it.”

Wu Chang glanced at Amber, finding her completely blocked by the broad Susan.

Susan may be harsh with Amber, but when she thinks Amber’s in big trouble, she chooses to shield Amber first.

Originally, Wu Chang was uneasy about Amber returning to the orphanage, worried she’d be targeted by the director. However, now it seems it might not be that bad.

He smiled and started explaining to Susan that he and Erin weren’t here to ”send Amber back,” but to help Amber complete her social practices.

Susan, upon understanding the full story, slightly side-stepped, surprised, looking at Amber. Seeing Amber nod, she realized her mistake and allowed the two into the orphanage.

Inside the director’s office, Susan served the two coffee, saying apologetically:

”Sorry, I misunderstood. There have been cases before where adoptive parents returned Amber.”

”They mostly survived catastrophically, hence their emotions tend to be intense, which scares other children here.”

Wu Chang nodded, ”Understandable.”

Previously, Amber had glowing flora and a faceless shadow accompanying her. Both were figures filled with grudges and had a track record of being ruthless. With them around, not just Amber’s foster family but even ordinary friends struggled to meet good ends.
