Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 531: Chapter 262: One Week in the Dark Room

The extinguished oil lamp of Wells seemed to choke him with invisible hands; his face showed pain, and the curse stuck in his throat, unable to come out.

He wanted to relight the oil lamp, but the buzzing whispers filled his ears, causing his gaze to gradually blur.

Accompanied by a dense crowd of whispers, Wells halted his actions and stared into the darkness, stupefied.

Then, he staggered and swayed his way into the darkness.

He couldn’t see the surroundings, but the voices in his mind guided him forward, to fulfill his mission.

He then arrived at the edge of the cliff, took a deep breath, and the sea breeze’s salty smell filled his lungs, giving his gaze a trace of liveliness.

This was what he sought.

He stepped towards the ocean, heedless of the cliff at his feet.

The next moment, accompanied by a strong sense of weightlessness, Wu Chang emerged from the resentment.

He shook his head, recalling the scenes in the resentment.

Firstly, it described the island forever shrouded in night, with malice hidden in darkness attacking everyone indiscriminately.

Except him.

Only with the special oil lamp could one move around the island.

Secondly, in Wells’ memory, there was a precious relic on this island, and to study it, the military had established a research station on the island.

The research station had already begun operating, yielding many achievements, including ancient text rubbings and photos received by Wells earlier, all originating from the scientific research station.

The research station gathered scholars from many domains, including theologians, philosophers, ancient architects, historians, archaeologists, and wizards...

As well as multi-functional adventurers like Fujita Hideyuki, and Colonel Johnson who managed them.

Judging by their tendencies toward risky actions, the station was a gathering of wise men, each individually is considered high-risk in their profession.

Gathered together, even in a normally safe setting, they would invite the attention of monsters.

The troublesome part is, these mysterious folks started becoming deluded like Wells and Fujita Hideyuki, believing themselves chosen by gods upon exposure to the so-called relic texts.

To vie for this so-called mission, they secretly betrayed each other, making this enchanting workplace environment prone to incidents, which would justify the military’s arrangement.

According to the intelligence collected so far, to clear the dungeon, he needs to find Fujita Hideyuki within the resentment.

Fujita Hideyuki, positioned at the exploration front line, possesses firsthand data about the relics; he has hoarded much intelligence from Wells and extracted ancient text knowledge he desired.

Looking across the research station, no one should know more than him.

After determining the goal for the next step, Wu Chang planned to continue his actions, but before he left, he needed to borrow some equipment from Wells.

The malice lurking in darkness attacks everyone indiscriminately, while his character at the Management Bureau remains relatively inconspicuous; hence navigating the darkness with equipment is more sensible.

He took the oil lamp and watch from Wells’ body, then grabbed an ancient text notebook and an antique magnifying glass from his arms.

The malice-dispersing oil lamp was quite durable, even merely deforming slightly in a cliff fall, without affecting usage.

To Wu Chang’s surprise, both the oil lamp and the magnifying glass were items.

Item Name: Night Traveling Lamp

Item Type: Dungeon Items

Item Description: Utilizing Deep Sea Fishman Oil as fuel, once lit, it can temporarily resist the erosion of Night Island.

Note: Believe me, on Night Island, ensure you always remain in light.

Wu Chang examined the oil lamp, finding it nearly new as Wells died quickly, and the lamp oil was almost full, sufficient for prolonged use.

Then he picked up Wells’ antique magnifying glass.

Item Name: Gaze of History

Item Type: Dungeon Items

Artifact Level: C

Item Description: When observing relics and artifacts, additional clues can be discovered based on the user’s Inspiration Attribute.

Note: No need to leaf through books, details of relics and artifacts will speak.

Wearing the watch and storing the magnifying glass, Wu Chang lit the Night Traveling Lamp and headed towards the research station in the center of the island.

About ten minutes later, Wu Chang arrived at the only place with a light source on Night Island.

Looking at the ruins before him, it was hard for him to align this place with the research station in Wilson’s memory.

In Wilson’s memory, the research station was built less than three years ago, yet the building before him was extremely dilapidated, with flaked-off paint, burn marks, bullet holes, knife stabs on the exterior, and bloodstains seeping into the building surface.

It was evident that major chaos occurred here, likely more than once.

How many years had it been since Wesel died?

As soon as Wu Chang entered the building’s ten-meter range, he noticed a flying sword shooting out from within.

A flying sword that was once too fast for him to notice, now he could easily see its trajectory, even anticipate its path according to energy traction.

The landing point of the flying sword was right in front of him, aimed as a warning rather than an attack.

He pretended being unable to react in time to the flying sword, dazedly continued forward until he was nearly impaled by the sword, before abruptly halting, retreating half a step, and shouting:

”Sword Star, it’s me; quickly withdraw the magic.”

The flying sword circled around him once and returned inside the building, and moments later, Sword Star and Lei Huo stepped out.

The two stopped at the entrance of the research station, Lei Huo’s eyes flickered with electric light, gazing at Wu Chang for a moment before exclaiming, ”It’s the real deal.”
