Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 519: Chapter 258: Love of Flaying

The Management Bureau treats the Butterfly Woman differently than Xie Wei, whom Wu Chang had previously captured. The Butterfly Woman wears special heavy shackles on her wrists, an electronic anklet on her feet, and a talisman for restraining Energy stuck to her body.

Judging from the equipment she has on her, her crimes must be significant.

Noticing Wu Chang’s gaze, the Butterfly Woman raises her head to meet his eyes, a faint smile appearing on her aloof face.

Wu Chang shows a curious expression; does she remember him?

If he’s not mistaken, when he saw the Butterfly Woman that day, her attention should have been entirely on Lu Langfeng.

Wu Chang follows Zhao Yan, both escorting the Butterfly Woman to the underground fifth level.

During the escort, Wu Chang continuously observes the Butterfly Woman.

The Butterfly Woman’s mental status is stable, and she remains silent along the way. Wu Chang cannot see traces of evil aura on her, feel any resentment, or detect any dangerous aura.

The only thing that makes her stand out is the strong emotional aura she has.

The first time Wu Chang saw her, he was drawn by the intense emotions she emitted. Back then, those emotions were almost visible to the naked eye; now, after four days, they’ve become substantial.

It’s a complex, peculiar emotion, not merely a single pure emotion.

Wu Chang can’t determine what it is, but his inspiration tells him that emotion should be love.

Love indeed touches on his knowledge blind spot; such questions should be directed to Fang Hui.

Knowledge comes from practice; if you haven’t experienced something, you can’t fully grasp the essence of it.

Wu Chang and Zhao Yan escort the Butterfly Woman into the underground fifth level; first, they process her registration. After she wears the electronic bracelet recording her information, the Butterfly Woman is sent into one of the deepest cells on the fifth level.

Upon exiting, Wu Chang observes the fifth level. After a few days, the once empty floor for confinement is now 80% occupied.

He wrinkles his nose, looking around with disgust.

Perhaps it’s the aftermath of the Hymn Company mission. Having seen the resentment of Farrell and others, and after completing the Spiritual Ability Activation Surgery, he can vaguely see people’s evil aura.

It’s a dirty, filthy black cloud, containing various unpleasant elements. If the evil is too strong, it can be synesthetic, allowing one to smell the indescribable stench.

Only, the evil aura on the fifth level mostly appears dirty, yet when observed, it doesn’t emit any smell.

It seems those confined here can still be saved; they haven’t committed excessively grave acts. Those beyond redemption might have been directly executed.

The Management Bureau has the authority to deal with transcendent criminals.

Coming up from the fifth level, Zhao Yan points at the smoking room and says, ”Want to chat?”

Wu Chang nods, following Zhao Yan. He was just looking to inquire about recent developments.

As the smoking room door opens, inside it’s hazy with smoke. The burst of second-hand smoke almost pushes Wu Chang back out.

After turning on the ventilation and waiting for the smoke to disperse a bit, one can see three large ashtrays on the table, densely filled with cigarette butts.

It seems everyone’s under substantial pressure lately; judging by the amount here, each person is going through at least two packs a day.

Zhao Yan lights one, taking a drag, then asks, ”Where have you been these past few days? The bureau is swamped, dispatching many newly absorbed wild transcendent individuals. Yet at such a crucial time, you just vanished.”

Wu Chang shrugs and replies, ”Recently got some inspiration playing ball alone. Thought a good court is essential for playing ball, so I went and burned at dawn in Los Angeles for the boss.”

Wu Chang isn’t here to discuss his affairs, quickly changing the subject to ask, ”What did that woman do?”

Zhao Yan asks, ”Do you know her?”

Wu Chang says, ”Just a brief encounter. How did you figure it out?”

Zhao Yan looks at Wu Chang with a knowing smile and says, ”Since you came through the door, your eyes have been glued to her. And you call it a brief encounter?”

Wu Chang, a bit miffed, replies, ”I was scrutinizing the criminal.”

Zhao Yan snorts but doesn’t press further, saying, ”I don’t care if you have some personal connection or just have a peculiar penchant for rune mages, but I’d advise you to best steer clear from her.”

Wu Chang furrows his brow and asks, ”Are her crimes serious?”

Zhao Yan nods, ”She’s involved in large-scale serial murder, with a vile pattern, and a cruel method. The victim count exceeds fifteen. Arrested on the spot, she pleaded guilty to the case without denial.”

Wu Chang, puzzled, asks, ”Is there a case file? I’d like to take a look.”

Interrogating the Butterfly Woman was Zhao Yan’s task, so he immediately passes the relevant case data to Wu Chang, ”Check for yourself, but don’t spread it.”

Wu Chang opens the file, first sees the Butterfly Woman’s background.

The Butterfly Woman appears wild, but her name is rather serene, Yu Siyi, 21, a junior, younger than Wu Chang.

Despite her young age, her deeds are not insignificant.

According to her confession and later discovered victim remains, she murdered 15 people—twelve men and three women.

Her method of crime was simple: she goes to night clubs, takes home those who accost her, and at home she controls the victims, hangs them in her basement, and drains and skins them.

When apprehending Yu Siyi, she was assaulting a victim. According to Management Bureau members present, the victim was skinned completely and actively bled, but remained conscious, eventually dying on the way to the hospital.

Wu Chang, staring at the file, puzzled, asks, ”For such a severe incident, the director just confines her on the fifth level?”
