The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 1116: Chapter 1116: Concubine’s Intentions (2)

Yang Ruxin nodded. In ancient times, scholars or men from great families, besides their given names, all had a style name, which she thought was quite similar to the concept of formal and informal names in later generations. However, the style names in ancient times were usually chosen with care.

Now that Gu Qingheng had abandoned his style name, it meant he was irreconcilably estranged from the Gu Family.

This Dou Xuemei was Gu Lin’s daughter. Just because of this, Gu Qingheng would never accept her. Yet, she had bravely come here, and Ruxin could only admire her courage.

”Wenxiu, are you okay?” Dong Wenxiu suddenly burst in. She disliked the fuss of greeting guests, so usually, when people visited, she would merely show her face and say hello. Besides, with Xinxin around, she could handle anyone. Thus, when Dou Xuemei arrived, she had greeted her and then returned with the others to continue making dolls. She felt that now she could at least help her daughter with some work, giving her a sense that she was not useless. Yet, she had not expected trouble to arise.

Yang Ruxin smiled, ”Mother, don’t worry; I’m fine.”

”I saw that girl covered in blood earlier; it scared me to death...” Dong Wenxiu let out a sigh of relief, ”What on earth happened?”

Yang Ruxin smiled, ”What could it be? It’s just a case of cousins growing up together like childhood sweethearts. Whether the man returns the affection, we’ll have to wait for his return to find out...”

”This...” Dong Wenxiu frowned, ”How did she get hurt?”

”This girl wanted to stay. I wouldn’t allow it, so she staged a bit of self-harm,” Yang Ruxin said with a cold laugh.

Dong Wenxiu let out a sigh of relief.

”That’s enough, don’t worry about it. Eat and drink as you should; these matters are nothing to me...” Yang Ruxin patted Dong Wenxiu’s shoulder, ”Just don’t overexert yourself.”

”Xinxin, Qingheng is not that kind of person,” Dong Wenxiu nodded, ”I’m not worried, just don’t be angry, that’s all...”

”Yes, yes,” Xun Juan chimed in, nodding too. ”Xinxin, men having multiple wives and concubines is normal. As long as you’re the main wife, no one can do anything about it...”

Yang Ruxin frowned and glanced at Xun Juan. ”Aunt Juanzi, I have a cleanliness obsession. I can’t share a husband with any other woman...”

Xun Juan’s eyes widened in disbelief, momentarily at a loss for words.

Dong Wenxiu patted Xun Juan’s hand. ”Juanzi, Gu Qingheng has promised Xinxin that he will never take a concubine in this life, and Xinxin has set a household rule for the Yang Family: no woman shall be a concubine; no man shall take one. Violators will be expelled from the family.”

Juanzi’s mouth hung open in shock. Such household rules were unheard of... She then smiled helplessly. ”That’s the hope of all women—to not share their men with others... It’s just a pity when things come to this... Xinxin is very wise...”

Yang Ruxin was noncommittal. Wise? She didn’t think so. She had only lived through two lifetimes, seen more, and thus become more open-minded. As a modern soul, having come to such ancient times, initially struggling with hunger and cold and facing daily rebukes, she had finally escaped the life of hardship. She couldn’t jump back into the quagmire of marriage, could she?

She couldn’t change the world, but she could maintain her personal integrity. Although it was difficult, she would strive to do so. She believed that when Gu Qingheng made that promise, he was sincere and that he would also work hard with her. If one day his original intentions changed, then she would simply let go. She would not humbly sacrifice her self-respect to beg anyone.
