The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 1063: Chapter 1063: Red-light District (1)

”That woman?” Gu Qingheng frowned and suddenly his eyes widened, ”You mean... Dong Family?”

”Yes.” Yang Ruxin nodded, ”Although she is heavily made up now, I wouldn’t mistake her... I really didn’t expect my aunt by marriage to be so capable, to actually be living so prosperously... ” She had followed Wu Da from Xiao Liu Village before, but ran away after discovering Guan Qingshu. And now, she quickly landed another patron.

Gu Qingheng sneered, ”I think she’s gotten into the flesh trade, really throwing caution to the wind.”

”What else could she do if not the flesh trade?” Yang Ruxin sighed, ”Being reckless is how you make money, after all. The man just now even bought her such a big gold ring... ”

The two of them followed Dong Hongmei into a lane to the north west of the city, entering the first courtyard.

This area was a lower-tier Red-light District. The women here were not required to have beauty or talent, and there were no restrictions on age; as long as one was a woman capable of satisfying a man’s needs, she could work there.

The godmothers here didn’t take a cut but merely charged rent. Those who were better off could rent their own individual courtyard, those a little worse off could rent the main house, and those who were even worse off could rent a single side room—for this business, all one needed was a kang bed.

Of course, the prices here were cheap; the expensive ones were only a few dozen wen per go while most were just a dozen or so wen. Even with some of the less desirable ones, a few wen could get your pants off. Therefore, this place was Heaven for the lower-class men.

Often, several men who had finished their day’s work would enter the same courtyard arm in arm, then disperse into different rooms, and soon enough sounds would start emanating from each, all pretty much ending at the same time. They’d pull up their trousers, gather in the courtyard, and walk off arm in arm again.

Dong Hongmei was obviously among those better off as she rented a separate courtyard. How could one tell? Those with private courtyards usually close the door behind them upon entering, while those sharing rentals keep their doors open, with women either busy inside if there was business, or leaning on the door frames, cracking sunflower seeds or daydreaming if there wasn’t. As soon as a man passed by, they’d wave a handkerchief to beckon him.

”Let’s go.” Yang Ruxin frowned and tugged at Gu Qingheng.

”What do you plan to do?” Having left that area, Gu Qingheng looked at Yang Ruxin.

Yang Ruxin shook her head, ”I haven’t decided.” She really didn’t know what to do about Dong Hongmei. After all, she was Erya’s biological mother, and what she did wasn’t a capital offense.

”Then don’t think about it,” Gu Qingheng smiled, ”I’ll have someone keep an eye on her. As long as she doesn’t do anything outrageous, let her live and die by her own doings...”

Yang Ruxin nodded, ”Alright then.”

By the time the two of them returned to the Fang Family’s, they found it incredibly lively. The running race had finished, and now a card game had started. The playing cards made by Yu Qingge were loved by everyone and had even led to the opening of four tables. It was chaotic, with no distinction between masters and servants, the losers wearing paper strips on their faces. At this point, everyone had paper strips on their faces, including Fang Dehua, the Feng Family, and Dong Wenxiu...

”Xinxin, come quickly.” Yuan Mengzhu had the fewest strips, just two on her chin, making her look very odd, ”Those few people don’t have partners, you two could start another table...”

”There are no more cards,” Yang Ruxin smiled, ”We only made four decks... You all play, we’ll just watch... Godmother, go for it...”
