Urban Divine Doctor Descends the Mountain

Chapter 1182: Chapter 1181 Do You Even Deserve to Be a Father?

Lin Dong spent several hours taking photos with the staff.

By the time it felt like his brain was about to explode, the session was finally over.

He hurried to the President’s Office and noticed someone at the door, whispering with her tongue sticking out:

”Divine Doctor Lin, could I also take a photo with you?”

This was Li Qingcheng’s new assistant. Lin Dong remembered her name was Liu Yan.

”Of course, Sister Yan,” Lin Dong laughingly said, nodding.

Liu Yan, elated upon hearing Lin Dong’s agreement, quickly took out her phone.

Lin Dong noted that Liu Yan was quite frugal; she continued to use her phone even though its screen was shattered.

Moreover, the phone was not an Apple or anything similar but a cheaper Xiaomi phone.

You should know that at Qingcheng International, the treatment wasn’t bad, and her assistant’s salary was tens of thousands a month at the very least.

He didn’t expect her to be so frugal.

After taking the photos, Lin Dong entered the President’s Office.

Assistant Liu Yan, however, suddenly received a phone call, and her expression subtly changed, as she quickly headed towards the company’s main gate...

When Lin Dong entered, Li Qingcheng put down the documents in her hand and looked towards Lin Dong.

Seeing Lin Dong’s ’wronged’ expression, she couldn’t help but giggle, ”Are you done with the photo session?”

Lin Dong couldn’t help but roll his eyes, ”How can you still laugh?”

”Hahaha...” Li Qingcheng laughed even louder.

Seeing this, Lin Dong walked up to her, lifted her in a horizontal carry, and started to spank her.

Li Qingcheng quickly pleaded for mercy, ”Okay, I’m wrong, I’m wrong. If I call you ’good brother’, will that do?”

”Don’t hit anymore... it hurts.”

Lin Dong hmphed, ”No, pleading for mercy is useless, and calling me ’good brother’ is useless too. I must teach you a good lesson today. Who told you to lead the way in setting me up?”

”Wuu, good brother, no more hitting, it’s going to swell.” Li Qingcheng pleaded for mercy, pretending to cry.

Lin Dong hmphed again, ”It’s okay, I’m a doctor, and if it swells, I’ll just give you a few injections to reduce the swelling right away.”

Li Qingcheng: ”...”

Her whole person felt numb.

Is this how your medical arts are supposed to be used?

After a bit of banter, Lin Dong remembered assistant Liu Yan, and couldn’t help but ask, ”Sister Qingcheng, what’s the story with your new assistant?”

Because of what happened with the previous assistant’s betrayal, Lin Dong felt he had to bring up the issue of the new assistant, Liu Yan.

”Her? She’s a very excellent girl. Although her family background isn’t great, she managed to get into Dragon Country’s best university through hard work and saving money, and even studied at the Business and Administration Department! I saw she was indeed quite capable and hired her as an assistant,” Li Qingcheng responded.

Lin Dong said, ”Sister Qingcheng, I’m not asking if she’s excellent or not. I’m asking if she’s trustworthy enough to be your assistant. What I need most from her is loyalty!”

Li Qingcheng understood this point and nodded, ”Don’t worry, she’s a good person. She won’t betray me like the previous assistant did...”

”This girl has led a troubled life.”

”Did you notice some scars on her body?”

”I did,” Lin Dong nodded. It was precisely because he noticed she had scars that he felt the need to inquire further.

Li Qingcheng spoke with righteous indignation:

”It seems like they were caused by her father, who has a terrible home life. Her mother passed away when she was young.”

”Her father is a gambling ghost, a drunkard, and then took a step-mother, who bore him a son. At home, she’s continuously bled dry by her gambling ghost of a father and step-mother.”

”Sometimes when her dad gets drunk, he even beats her...”

Hearing this, Lin Dong’s brows furrowed slightly, feeling a bitter taste in his heart.

At this moment, suddenly, a knock on the door echoed from outside.

Li Qingcheng thought it was assistant Liu Yan and said, ”Come in!”

However, it wasn’t assistant Liu Yan who entered, but another employee.

This employee said urgently, ”President Liu, something awful has happened. Assistant Liu had an accident.”

Upon hearing this, Li Qingcheng asked anxiously, ”What happened to her?”

”It seems like her family has come asking for money. She refused to give it to them, and they actually started to beat her!” the female employee reported.

Li Qingcheng and Lin Dong exchanged a glance upon hearing this. They had just been discussing Assistant Liu Yan’s issue, and now her family had shown up at the company?

And they were hitting her?

The two people hurried out to see what was happening.

When they arrived at the door of the company, they found many people gathered around, and a bald, potbellied, muscular man was cursing foul words.

”Ingrate, all these years of raising you were a waste. Why is it so hard for you to just give me some money?”

Wiping her tears, Liu Yan said, ”You gamble away all the money I give you, no amount would be enough to cover your debts.”

”Actually talking back now, are you? Getting too bold for your own good,” the middle-aged bald man said viciously.

He was none other than Liu Yan’s father, Liu Guangzhong!

Next to him was a middle-aged woman, with a mean and sharp look on her face, and at this moment she also spoke:

”Yan’er, this time we’re asking you for money not for your dad’s gambling debts, but for your brother.”

”He’s found someone, and they’re asking for a betrothal gift of 380,000 Yuan. Otherwise, she won’t marry your brother.”

”You know your brother, he doesn’t like studying and hasn’t been to school much. He hasn’t had a serious job either, and after so many arranged dates, not a single girl has taken a liking to him. Now there’s finally a girl who is willing to marry him as long as she gets the betrothal gift.”

”So you, as his elder sister, must help him. You wouldn’t want him to remain a bachelor for life, would you?”

The woman saying these words was Liu Yan’s stepmother.

At that moment, Liu Yan felt her face burning and her ears red. Such family matters were always discussed at home, but now they had brought it to the company. As she was watched by her colleagues, she felt a deep sense of shame and wished she could just burrow into a hole and hide.

Because lately, Qingcheng International’s reputation had been well-known internationally, and many international partners would visit their company.

Now, lots of people were watching and whispering about her.

Liu Yan felt even more mortified, feeling she had brought shame upon the company and lost face for everyone.

It was at this moment that someone said, ”President Liu and Divine Doctor Lin are here.”

Then, Lin Dong and Li Qingcheng walked out with anger evident on their faces.

Seeing Li Qingcheng, Liu Yan burst into tears and hurriedly apologized to her:

”President Liu, I’m sorry, my family affairs have affected the company’s image.”

”You... you should fire me!”

Upon hearing this, Liu Yan’s gambling-addicted father, Liu Guangzhong, quickly said, ”It’s fine to fire my daughter, but you have to pay compensation. I may be unrefined, but I know the law.”

”If you fire an employee, the boss has to pay N+1 in compensation. A neighbor’s kid got laid off by his company and they paid him two hundred thousand.”

”I’ve heard this is a big international company, even foreigners come to visit, so you have to pay more.”

”Double it, four hundred thousand!”

”Yes, yes, yes, you can fire my daughter. But you have to compensate us with four hundred thousand!” the middle-aged woman chimed in shamelessly.

Hearing this, Liu Yan began to weep even more pitifully.

She quickly said, ”President Liu, don’t listen to them. I’m resigning voluntarily; you don’t have to compensate.”

President Liu had been quite fair to her. She had been with the company for less than a month when she was made a regular worker. She had been taught a lot, and the salary and bonuses she received were quite generous.

Even the last time, she received a valuable gift from President Liu using personal funds.

Such a good boss, she couldn’t let her parents swindle them.

However, upon hearing her words, her parents began to scold her again.

Her stepmother berated, ”You ungrateful child, always turning your elbow outwards, huh? All those years of raising you were for nothing! I’ve always said, we shouldn’t have let you study so much. Once a woman is educated, she grows arrogant, and heartless, even neglecting her own parents... She should have started working earlier to earn money for the family.”

Her gambling-addict dad was even about to hit Liu Yan.

”You stubborn girl, you’ve really grown too bold. You’d rather save money for your boss than give it to us, your parents, huh? I should never have had you!”

”Today I’m just going to beat you to death!”

As he cursed, his large hand swung towards his daughter Liu Yan’s face.

Without a hint of pity, if that hit landed, her teeth might have been knocked out, or even worse, if it hit the temple, it could have been life-threatening.

Just as the hand was about to strike Liu Yan’s face, suddenly another hand appeared, grabbing the hand poised to hit.

At the same time, the person grabbing his hand let out an extremely angry voice.

He coldly said,

”Do you even deserve to call yourself a father?”
