The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 795: Chapter 744: Father-in-Law and Son-in-Law

Grand Tutor Zhao felt a bit perplexed. He knew that Yan’er liked Huangfu Yuxuan. When Prince Liang was still the Crown Prince, he had hinted at it a few times, both openly and subtly. But Huangfu Yuxuan, who had his eyes set high, had never made a move, leaving Yan’er to shed countless tears in private.

Now that Prince Liang was no longer the Crown Prince, why did he suddenly come to propose marriage?

Going to the Grand Tutor Mansion to propose marriage while concurrently submitting a petition to the Emperor for the title, was this a two-pronged strategy?

Although the Emperor had many grandsons, he might not recognize each of them, but he remembered Huangfu Yuxuan clearly. After all, Yuxuan was the second son of the Crown Prince, raised in the Eastern Palace, and was much more intelligent and quick-witted than Huangfu Hongyi. As a child, he often played joyfully by the Emperor’s side.

The Emperor felt frustrated with Prince Liang’s incompetence, as well as with Huangfu Hongyi’s lack of progress. Only Huangfu Yuxuan had any promise.

If it were in the past, Huangfu Yuxuan should naturally be made the Princely Heir, as the continuance of the Nanxia dynasty was at stake.

However, now that Prince Liang was merely a Prince, it seemed more prudent for Huangfu Hongyi to be the Princely Heir, to avoid unnecessary trouble.

But just now, Eunuch Feng mentioned that this brat had gone to propose marriage to Grand Tutor Zhao’s daughter.

This was something that gave Grand Tutor Zhao considerable face.

The Emperor pondered for a moment. Could Huangfu Yuxuan have known he would hesitate over the position of the Princely Heir and thus proposed and petitioned for the title simultaneously?

If that were true, he would have to deliberate further.

His eyes scanned the four present, and he said calmly, ”What do you all think?”

Grand Tutor Zhao remained silent.

The Minister of Rites said, ”According to protocol, both establishing the rightful heir and establishing a virtuous one are acceptable!” It was a standard, non-committal response, almost equivalent to no response at all.

Jiang Xin chuckled, ”Speaking of which, this is truly the family matter of Prince Liang Mansion and Your Majesty’s family matter. As ministers, how can we discuss the family matters of Your Majesty?”

A sly old fox.

The Emperor chuckled, pressing the issue aside, and the senior officials each left the palace to return to their residences.

As Grand Tutor Zhao arrived at the palace gate, he saw his servant, boarded the carriage, and instructed, ”Back to the mansion!” and then closed his eyes to rest.

Once, he would have liked Huangfu Yuxuan to be his son-in-law, but now he had long given up the idea. Prince Liang Mansion had no chance for a comeback; his daughter could become an Empress! ℯℯ𝘭.

This marriage proposal could not be approved!

He initially thought Huangfu Yuxuan was using a two-pronged approach, but when the servant subtly yet clearly narrated what had happened, Grand Tutor Zhao’s face immediately darkened.

What?

Yan’er merely attended a banquet at Prince Ning Mansion and ended up in a room with Huangfu Yuxuan in disarray? Nonsense, nonsense! How could such a thing have happened?

He could no longer pretend to rest and only wished he could fly back to the mansion immediately.

Eighty sedan chairs of betrothal gifts, indeed a grand gesture. If they had been brought two years ago, it would have been a joyous affair, but now...

With a somber face, Grand Tutor Zhao walked into the mansion, while the betrothal gifts were still being carried into Zhao Mansion, eighty sedan chairs’ worth, not yet finished.

Such a grand scene attracted many onlookers, and in front of the Grand Tutor Mansion, it was almost like a bustling market.

In the side hall, Grand Tutor Zhao summoned Zhao Hua.

As soon as Zhao Hua entered the room, Grand Tutor Zhao furiously commanded, ”Kneel!”

Without a word, Zhao Hua immediately knelt down.

Grand Tutor Zhao coldly said, ”Today you accompanied your sister to Prince Ning Mansion, did you just watch as such a thing happened to her?”

Zhao Hua felt helpless; he couldn’t be with his sister constantly. He rushed there as soon as he got the news...

Thinking of this, he felt somewhat guilty.

He was the first to push aside the Xia family brothers, letting others know his sister had been set up.

If his father knew, he’d certainly break his legs. But it couldn’t be concealed forever, so Zhao Hua had to recount the events honestly, though he left out leading the collision that exposed his sister’s scandal.

Grand Tutor Zhao maintained a somber expression throughout and was even more furious after hearing the whole story, ”How dare that brat treat me like this!”

Zhao Hua quickly said, ”Father, now that things have come to this point, the matter at Prince Ning Mansion has already been concluded. Both sister and Young Master Xuan are innocent, and now that Young Master Xuan has come with sincere intentions, offering the bride price, he is taking on the responsibility expected of a man. Father, I am at fault here, but isn’t it a blessing amidst misfortune that things have developed in this way?”

Grand Tutor Zhao nearly fainted from anger, a blessing amidst misfortune?

This fool actually believed the so-called conclusion from Prince Ning Mansion.

If his guess was correct, if Huangfu Yuxuan wasn’t involved in this incident, he would eat his hat!
