The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 793: Chapter 743: Amusing Tales

Prince Xin’s son was momentarily taken aback, then he laughed heartily and said, ”Cousin, you’re teasing me again! Since the fair lady already belongs to someone else, I naturally have to let go!” Yet his heart was startled. He thought his intention to marry Miss Zhao was carried out in secrecy, and he hadn’t even sent a betrothal gift. How did Prince Lu’s son know about it?

Upon reflection, he understood. In the Capital City, the reason both he and Prince Lu’s son wanted to marry Zhao Keyan was nothing more than the power and status of Grand Tutor Zhao. Otherwise, with so many beauties and talented women available, why would they both focus on the same person?

However, this clarified their mutual intentions even more.

Why did they want to marry Zhao Keyan for power and status? It was merely because their fathers harbored such thoughts.

Prince Liang and Prince Zhuang couldn’t possibly be deposed and reappointed. If Prince Li could be established as the Crown Prince, why hadn’t there been any movement in the Capital City for so long?

The remaining opportunity belonged to their respective fathers, didn’t it?

Unfortunately, they had competed in private, and in the end, due to a twist of fate, it was Huangfu Yuxuan who benefited by marrying Miss Zhao.

Previously, in the changing room at the Prince Ning Mansion, when they first saw Huangfu Yuxuan and Zhao Keyan embracing, their feelings were almost similarly conflicted.

Yet, even if they were eyeing the power behind Zhao Keyan, they couldn’t possibly jump out under such circumstances to take the blame and seize the ’green hat’ for Huangfu Yuxuan.

They realized they had lost their chance.

However, they were both relieved that it was Huangfu Yuxuan who married Miss Zhao instead of the other.

The relationship between these two was also peculiar, almost inseparable daily. Those who didn’t know better might think their brotherly bond was extraordinarily close. In fact, they were together merely to probe each other, scheme against each other, hinder each other, and compare with each other...

Huangfu Yuxuan’s proposal to Miss Zhao, one of the famed talented Twin Yan, Zhao Keyan, was known throughout the city.

Eighty sedan chairs full of betrothal gifts stretched out. It was said that the foremost had already reached the Grand Tutor Zhao Mansion, while the last was still at the Prince Liang Mansion.

Amidst the festive music and clamorous procession, the scene was truly grand and lively.

Many onlookers speculated and discussed, unsure of what auspicious day it was, wondering why the betrothal gifts started being sent unexpectedly in the afternoon.

Those who heard snippets at the Prince Ning Mansion or were present onsite naturally understood why Huangfu Yuxuan made this abrupt decision.

Nonetheless, they also admired how, in such a short time, Huangfu Yuxuan could prepare such an extent of betrothal gifts and deliver them so ostentatiously.

In fact, these items were prepared by Huangfu Yuxuan long ago. If it weren’t for Princess He Ye ruining today’s intended match, these gifts would have been sent to the Xia Mansion.

Riding on a white-headed horse draped with red silk, as he watched this long procession of betrothal gifts, heading not towards the Xia Mansion, a complex expression flickered in Huangfu Yuxuan’s eyes.

The Zhao Mansion did not unexpectedly allow the betrothal gifts in.

Zhao Keyan, upon returning home, rushed into her room and shut herself in.

Zhao Hua, anxious to report the matter to his father, found himself with no options as Grand Tutor Zhao had entered the palace to meet the emperor and hadn’t returned. His heart was impatient, and he ordered a servant to wait at the palace gates to promptly inform him of any urgent family matters upon seeing the master exit.

Currently, with Grand Tutor Zhao yet to return, the betrothal gifts had entered the mansion first.

Zhao Hua let out a long sigh of relief.

He immediately sent someone to share the good news with Zhao Keyan.

Back in her room, Zhao Keyan was feeling very anxious.

Since the day she reached marriageable age, her thoughts had been occupied by Huangfu Yuxuan. Whenever there was an occasion where Huangfu Yuxuan was present, she would find ways to attend.

She strived to make her presence felt before him. Yet, the gentleman who seemed to dwell amidst the clouds remained always distant.

She studied diligently in music, chess, calligraphy, painting, poetry, and fu, becoming a famed talented woman in the Capital City, yet it still didn’t prompt him to propose.

Now, she took the most daring step, wagering her own reputation. If Huangfu Yuxuan still didn’t come, she would only have tied up her hair and entered the family temple.

Facing such a gamble, with the outcome still unresolved, how could she not feel anxious?

After all, she was only seventeen.

She recalled the sweetness of embracing Huangfu Yuxuan, and even though she wasn’t entirely conscious then, the fact that it was real physical contact brought her joy; but when she remembered how Huangfu Yuxuan claimed to have an engagement and called Xia Wenjin with such a cold demeanor towards her, she felt as if her heart was in an icy chamber; she had once been full of hope due to Xia Wenjin’s public denial, but even in such a situation, Huangfu Yuxuan didn’t relent to take responsibility to safeguard her reputation, leaving her anxious and uneasy...
