The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 777: Chapter 738: An Unearned Favor

The lady in yellow and the lady in green accepted the order and left.

Princess He Ye smiled gently and said to herself, ”This method may be old-fashioned, but as long as it’s effective, why bother with these trivialities?”

If Xia Wenjin finds a good family to marry into, the Eldest Young Master Xia should understand her good intentions!

Moreover, it’s a win-win situation. Then when she marries the Eldest Young Master Xia, wouldn’t it add luster to the event?

Furthermore, she’s not really causing chaos in the couple’s matchmaking. Others have an engagement, and she’s merely adding to the pomp. It’s a favor given freely!

The more she thought about it, the more pleased she became. She said to Ling Dang, ”Come on, let’s go have a look!”

As Princess He Ye pretended to nonchalantly walk toward the room, she noticed many people were approaching from different directions.

Not only the ladies but also the young masters and noble madams were coming.

Among them was Mrs. Xia, usually serene and dignified, but now her eyes were filled with anxiety and worry.

Mrs. Li, who followed behind, was discreetly trying to advise her, while Princess Ning said, ”Perhaps someone was joking and gossiping? How could it be true? Such things would never happen in our mansion, it’s certainly impossible!”

A noble madam from the rear-right corner said in a peculiar tone, ”When you say such things don’t happen in your mansion, we believe you, but not everyone here is part of your Prince Mansion. It’s a big gathering, any sort of people might be here. It’s such a pity, Princess, you meant well by hosting this lively banquet, only for it to be ruined like this!”

Mrs. Xia’s face darkened; her Wenjin would never be that sort of person. Yet, Wenjin wasn’t accustomed to using maids, was alone for the first time at the Prince Ning Mansion, and must have been schemed against.

She absolutely couldn’t just let this matter slide; if Wenjin truly suffered a loss, she would make the Prince Ning Mansion, and those behind the scenes, pay the price!

Princess Ning was trying to disassociate herself, but if such an incident indeed occurred, to say nobody in the Prince Ning Mansion was involved or aware, was absolutely impossible!

She had already sent Nanny Zhou to call upon the Xia Brothers, and now Xia Xiaozhe was quickly walking over to support her, while anger was evident on Xia Xinxin’s youthful face.

They had been over there enjoying the flowers and chatting when suddenly a servant came over saying something had happened. Then followed whispers of gossip; initially, they didn’t care, but snippets reached their ears suggesting this incident involved Wenjin?

In other words, Wenjin was in trouble.

They hurried over, but the whispers — whether intentional or unintentional — had already spread, and they were not the only ones rushing over.

Seeing so many people with faces filled with mockery, sneers, anticipation, or lewd smiles, with some even exchanging winks with one another, Xia Xinxin wanted to charge over and fight them.

But he knew well if he did charge over to fight, it would only cause Wenjin to be further subjected to gossip.

Moreover, what those people were saying might not be true.

Upon reaching the front of the room, the Xia brothers quickly stepped forward, standing stoically to either side, blocking the door.

Princess Ning took a step back and understandingly said, ”This matter is of great importance; I honestly didn’t expect this to happen. However, I do believe these are just rumors. Would you, Mrs. Xia, kindly go in and take a look for me?”

Some who heard the news but weren’t sure whose it was suddenly realized after Princess Ning spoke. Ah, so that’s how it is!

Mrs. Xia’s expression turned slightly somber, but now was not the time to be calculative; she only wanted to ensure Wenjin was alright. As for the follow-up matters, she would definitely handle them properly, minimizing harm to Wenjin!

Mrs. Li sighed softly and murmured to herself, ”Such a lovely young lady, how did she end up involved in such a matter?”

Princess Ning didn’t care for such comments; she coolly replied, ”Mrs. Li’s words are misplaced today; everyone is free to play, eat, drink, and enjoy the flowers. If someone wishes to meet new friends and ends up being more amiable, deciding to do something, we can’t really control that. But rest assured, irrespective of the situation, our mansion absolutely did not partake in it! Mrs. Li, don’t be quick to dump this on our Prince Ning Mansion!”

Mrs. Li, though an outsider to Capital City and less adept than the noble madams in their maneuvering, was not foolish. After hearing Princess Ning’s words, she awkwardly replied, ”I certainly didn’t mean that...”

She merely saw the young lady’s grace and was pondering whether her own son might have a chance.

Now that this has happened, it’s undoubtedly regrettable.
