The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 327: Chapter 327: Do What You Can, When You Can

At that time, Xia Wenjin, who was wholeheartedly planning for Huangfu Yuxuan, carefully analyzed the situation and found it indeed to be so.

Her sole desire was to support Huangfu Yuxuan, to help him become the most esteemed person; naturally, she wouldn’t hold him back. Besides, didn’t Huangfu Yuxuan promise her that he would deal with those two in the future?

She even went to see Bai Yi’s parents and found that Huangfu Yuxuan had indeed sent many riches to them and arranged a position for his brother as a steward in the County Government, ensuring a life without worries.

This matter, she kept to herself, but she had always been waiting, waiting for Huangfu Yuxuan to gain an advantage in the battle for the throne, to deal with Marquis Anning and Yu Shikui.

However, how could such a battle for the throne be easily won by anyone? It was clearly a tug-of-war. Later, she heard that Bai Yi’s brother died of illness. When Bai Yi’s parents took his brother’s remains back, they encountered bandits, were robbed of everything, and also lost their lives.

Because of this, she felt sorry for a while and even more eagerly wanted Huangfu Yuxuan to deal with the two once the situation stabilized, to bring peace to the souls of that family.

Unfortunately, she never waited for that to happen.

What she waited for was only a cup of poisoned wine, a blaze of fire.

In her past life, she was too foolish, believing wholeheartedly in one person. A few sweet words and she accepted them as truth, without any doubt.

It really confirmed the saying that when a woman loves a man too deeply, she loses her judgment, her soul fades, and she loses both heart and mind. Wasn’t she exactly that kind of fool in her past life?

Reflecting now, the death of Bai Yi’s parents and brother surely had something more to it.

Huangfu Yuxuan valued Marquis Anning and Yu Shikui so much, treating them as trusted aides, how could he possibly deal with them over a few commoners?

The death of Huangfu Jinxuan’s family in her past life was caused by Huangfu Yuxuan. Now that Huangfu Jinxuan is here, she passes over a handle to see what Huangfu Jinxuan will do.

If he is truly as she saw in her past life, not just some wastrel, it could also be seen as preemptively cutting off Huangfu Yuxuan’s arm.

Therefore, upon discovering Huangfu Jinxuan’s intentions, Xia Wenjin quietly followed along.

She just didn’t expect that Huangfu Jingchen, fearing she would encounter danger, would quietly follow her.

Of course, Huangfu Jingchen didn’t hide it from her. When Xia Wenjin saw him following, her eyes lit up. She was worried about dealing with Huangfu Jinxuan’s skilled guard alone, and Huangfu Jingchen’s appearance was like timely rain.

She quietly asked Huangfu Jingchen for help, and then the earlier scene with Huangfu Jinxuan unfolded.

Huangfu Jingchen quietly approached and struck the acupoints of Wei Jun and Huangfu Jinxuan. Meanwhile, Xia Wenjin disguised herself as a ghost to scare Yu Shikui.

Xia Wenjin wasn’t clear about some details in Bai Yi’s murder in her past life, but pretending to be a ghost didn’t require many details. Just a call to return her life, and Yu Shikui, with a guilty conscience, already imagined everything.

Thinking about the tragic fate of Bai Yi’s family because of the man in front of her, Xia Wenjin couldn’t help but give him a hard beating. If she hadn’t restrained herself, she could have taken his life right then.

But she couldn’t, because if she took his life just like that, Bai Yi would still bear the name of a bandit, the cheating in the imperial examination would remain unexposed, and Marquis Anning would continue to stand by Huangfu Yuxuan...

The result she wanted was not like this.

She wanted the villains to be punished by law, to let those who died with grievances rest in peace!

Although her capabilities were limited, she could do what she could.

She was unaware, as she beat Yu Shikui, Huangfu Jinxuan outside was thoroughly enjoying the sound, while even Huangfu Jingchen, who came with her, gritted his teeth secretly.

This matter, if not known, that’s fine, but since it’s known, measures should be taken to report it to Grandpa.

After the task, Xia Wenjin quietly left her original spot and left without anyone knowing, to meet with Huangfu Jingchen. Once she saw her leaving the camp, Huangfu Jingchen promptly released the acupoints of Wei Jun and Huangfu Jinxuan.

Even though Wei Jun reacted quickly, immediately looking around, how could he spot Huangfu Jingchen?

After returning to the inn, Xia Wenjin casually took off that outfit.

It wasn’t really a bloodstained garment. It was just a white piece of clothing that she had splattered with some ink, with the word ’prisoner’ written on both front and back.

In the poor light of night, blood red and ink black look similar, perfect for scaring people.

If Yu Shikui wasn’t so guilty, he surely would have noticed the problem, but believing Bai Yi’s ghost was seeking revenge, he was scared out of his wits, unable to distinguish the subtle differences between red and black under the night sky.

Moreover, being a scholar, Yu Shikui was already highly strung due to the horror effects Xia Wenjin deliberately created, like sudden appearances and disappearances and inexplicable eerie winds.

Turning her head, Xia Wenjin saw Huangfu Jingchen’s somber face and assumed he was indignant over Bai Yi’s plight, jokingly said, ”What, still not over it?”

Huangfu Jingchen angrily said, ”Yu Shikui, as Prefectural Governor, already came by his position improperly, but to hide his deeds, he maliciously framed others, disregarding lives. That such a wicked official exists in Nanxia is infuriating!”

On this point, Xia Wenjin seemed much more indifferent. Shaking her head, she laughed, ”I thought you would have been used to it by now. Didn’t you see what kind of person the Yuqing County Governor was? This Northern County Magistrate is the same. The corruption in the officialdom is exactly because of these greedy officials that the people suffer unimaginable hardships, unable to live in peace, forcing them to revolt!”

”Forced to revolt?” Huangfu Jingchen was startled, turning his head sharply to look at Xia Wenjin.

Xia Wenjin was momentarily taken aback, maybe she accidentally let something slip.

Next summer in Qingzhou, due to floods, the people would lose their crops entirely, and the disaster relief official silvers would be greedily siphoned away at every level, never reaching those in need. Meanwhile, the local officials continued to extort from the people, who first resorted to cannibalism, then, unable to survive, finally rebelled under the leadership of a man named Kong Wenjing, killing the local officials. This rebel army of disaster victims grew like a snowball.

Kong Wenjing had some skill, and the rebel army even captured all of Qingzhou, showing signs of advancing towards the Capital City.

The news reached the Court, and the Emperor discussed this matter in the court hall.

Some proposed peace talks, believing the disaster victims had no recourse but to rebel, and as long as the Court adopted a conciliatory approach and properly settled the victims, filling their bellies, they wouldn’t oppose the Court again.

Some believed in a mix of coercion and conciliation, arguing that the rebel forces, ultimately just a crowd of rabble, would collapse under the pressure of the Court’s large army.

The Emperor hesitated, but Marquis Anning stood up, declaring righteously that they should send troops to suppress the rebels. He argued that the poor land breeds treacherous people, and these people would rise up for minor issues; once there is one case, there will be another. If anyone with slight dissatisfaction towards the Court strikes back and is easily pardoned, it will inspire others elsewhere. Wouldn’t the entire Nanxia be in chaos?
