The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 321: Chapter 321: Impervious to Persuasion

From this, it can be seen that although Huangfu Jinxuan is a spoiled child, causing trouble all over the capital and behaving like a little demon, he is not foolish, nor is he a burden to his father.

He only causes trouble that he can manage, his reputation is quite bad, but he is by no means incorrigible.

This is also the reason why, in his past life, Xia Wenjin only gave him a harsh beating but did not kill him for standing against Huangfu Yuxuan.

And King Kang, being a member of the imperial family, having such an unremarkable son and an average Princely Heir, naturally doesn’t arouse the Emperor’s suspicion!

Yu Shikui, seeing that eliminating all villagers of Wangshan Town for his own merit is no longer feasible, realized that even if Wen Hao stays, they no longer share the same goal. He somewhat regrets acting in haste.

But he understands well that he wasn’t too hasty; he was a step behind.

If he had arrived yesterday, even in haste, it could have been done.

He lost to time.

And he lost to time because Shang Jingwang intervened.

When the imperial envoy arrived, Shang Jingwang was only pleasantly surprised, with no hint of astonishment. Clearly, he had delivered the information to the capital long ago, possibly not just to the palace, but also to the Imperials Censor, and the envoy had set off earlier than the message reached him.

He was careless.

What else can be done now? Of course, it’s to smooth over everything before and put on a good show in front of the envoy.

The envoy is just a young, arrogant, overconfident, and haughty person, such individuals are the easiest to deal with.

He lacks nothing in terms of wealth, but there are beauties.

He doesn’t care for food and drink? Then there is gambling!

Thinking of this, Yu Shikui immediately stepped forward, ignoring the previous insults by Huangfu Jinxuan, and said warmly, ”Second Young Master, everything before was a misunderstanding. With you personally overseeing the plague in Wangshan Town, it will surely be cured quickly!”

Huangfu Jinxuan gave him a sidelong glance, ”I am not a doctor!”

Yu Shikui pretended not to hear the disdain in his tone and continued fawningly, ”Though you are not a doctor, as a royal family member, your blessings know no bounds. This blessing will extend to the mountains and waters of Wangshan Town with your arrival, and the people will heal from these blessings. The eradication of the epidemic will be entirely due to your merit!”

Huangfu Jinxuan chuckled, his laugh filled with mockery, ”Did you also perform like this in front of Marquis Anning? I’m just here for fun, treating a disease needs a doctor. What has this got to do with me? The credit for curing the epidemic belongs to the doctors and imperial physicians, I don’t need such credit!”

Yu Shikui: ”...”

Once again, his flattery missed its mark.

This young scoundrel has a truly unpleasant way of speaking, and he’s utterly impervious to persuasion, being all polite to Huangfu Jingchen but snide and sarcastic towards him. It’s infuriating.

Too bad about the useless Wen Hao.

If Wen Hao were willing to follow all his orders, what harm would come even if it’s the imperial envoy? Epidemics are ruthless, unlike human calamities. If the young envoy doesn’t heed advice and ventures into the epidemic area and dies from it, the credit still has maneuvering room.

But now, Wen Hao is not with him and has already left.

This useless and detrimental person, once returned to the Northern County Magistrate’s Office, must be framed with some charges to get rid of Wen Hao.

Unable to handle the heirless scoundrel Huangfu Jinxuan, but can’t he deal with a commander without foundation from military examinations?

His heart is about to burst with anger, yet he still manages to keep a smile on his face, saying, ”You are right, Second Young Master, it was my mistake! However, the conditions in Wangshan Town are rudimentary, and the epidemic is downright dangerous. Would you, Second Young Master, rather follow me to Yanglu County to rest? As for the matters here, I will ensure people fully cooperate with the imperial physicians.”

He has practically lowered himself into the ground in posture, his tone the epitome of conciliatory, seemingly not at all angered by the prior harsh words from Huangfu Jinxuan.

Upon hearing him say epidemic-stricken and extremely dangerous, Huangfu Jinxuan’s expression changed slightly and he turned to Huangfu Jingchen, asking, ”Young Master Huang, how about accompanying this imperial envoy to Yanglu County?”

Huangfu Jingchen shook his head, saying, ”Thank you for the kind gesture! I have been residing here in Wangshan Town for over a month, thanks to the early establishment of the quarantine zone, timely response, and proper management by the doctors. Now the epidemic is nearly cured, and with my friends here, I won’t be leaving!”

”The epidemic is almost cured?” A glimmer of interest flashed in Huangfu Jinxuan’s eyes, ”Really?”

Huangfu Jingchen nodded and continued, ”I am not a doctor nor the person in charge; for specifics, you have to ask Lord Shang!”

Having stepped back to a reasonable distance after receiving the Holy Decree, Shang Jingwang clearly heard Huangfu Jingchen’s words, and gratitude welled up within him.

He knew well, concerning the matters in Wangshan Town, rather than saying he, as the prefect, was in charge, in many ways, he followed Huangfu Jingchen’s arrangements: isolating personnel, forbidding villagers from entering or leaving; seeking medical advice and resources; even offering high rewards.

Not only him, but Doctor Xia almost risked everything as well.

But at this moment, they didn’t utter a word about their own contributions, on the contrary, they introduced him to the envoy, clearly intending to attribute the merit to him.

Huangfu Jinxuan looked at Shang Jingwang with appreciation, beckoning with his folding fan, ”No wonder the Emperor sent a separate commendation decree to you. You truly aren’t an idle-seat filler! I remember, your name is Shang what?”

”Reporting to the Lord Imperial Envoy, subordinate Shang Jingwang, Prefect of Huainan Prefecture!”

”Got it, got it. So what’s the situation with this epidemic, how was it cured? Come, tell me!”

As they spoke and walked, they made their way straight to the quarantine zone.

The area surrounding the quarantine zone used to be sealed tightly by five thousand stationed troops from Northern County, but now, with Wen Hao’s prompt order to withdraw after receiving instructions and Yu Shikui’s arrival with a hundred soldiers from the Governor Mansion, no one dares to make any rash move.

Although soldiers still guard and patrol strictly outside, the quarantine area is not as it once was.

Seeing Huangfu Jinxuan heading toward the quarantine zone, Yu Shikui’s expression shifted drastically. Despite the claim of an antidote being developed, he doesn’t believe it.

Entering that place might mean contracting the plague, never to recover.

Yu Shikui was reluctant to step inside, even reluctant to approach.

However, since the envoy headed in, how could he refuse? Gritting his teeth, he nonetheless followed behind Huangfu Jinxuan, contemplating how to handle this arrogant young envoy.

At this time, with the danger cleared, villagers driven into the quarantine zone without having contracted the plague began emerging from the rooms one by one.
