The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 304: Chapter 304: Unbelievable

At this moment, Huangfu Jingchen certainly had no time to clear up Shang Jingwang’s confusion.

He took Wen Hao and stepped forward.

The soldiers saw Wen Hao, clad in armor, looking dejected, and they couldn’t help but hesitate. How could they dare thrust their spears at them?

Yu Shikui squinted his eyes, the distance between them was no more than ten yards, so he could clearly see that person was Wen Hao. But why was Wen Hao among the civilians in Wangshan Town?

Huangfu Jingchen raised his voice, ”Yu Shikui, there is a Fourth Rank Military Commander here, and a Fifth Rank Governor. Even if you disregard lives as if they were grass, you must still consider they are officials of the Court!”

Yu Shikui’s face turned grim. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Indeed, he was currently only a Fourth Rank County Magistrate; he truly did not have the power to make life and death decisions over a Fourth Rank General and a Fifth Rank Governor. However, this was clearly a great merit; if he hesitated due to fear and missed this opportunity, once people from the Capital City arrived, this credit would slip away for nothing.

Such a rare opportunity was hard to come by, and if he could seize it, the external Marquis Anning would speak well of him in the Court, and a transfer to the Capital City would be in sight!

Yet he also knew this matter was of great significance; if not handled well, instead of earning merit, it might invite disaster.

His expression shifted dramatically, his gaze like a hawk’s piercing onto Wen Hao’s face, as if to bore a hole into it. This worthless thing that accomplishes nothing but ruins everything!

Wen Hao had just seen all this; his heart was cold too. In his absence, his military strategist, holding his Command Token, worked seamlessly with Yu Shikui. Now wanting to burn this side, is it intending to take his life along too?

Yu Shikui was silent for a moment, then raised his head and sneered, ”Wangshan Town is the source of the epidemic, a place of pestilence; everyone here carries the poison. Do not speak of General Wen and Governor Shang, no matter how noble one is, as long as they are in Wangshan Town, our Prefectural Governor, for the welfare of Northern County citizens, for the entire Nanxia realm, must take on this responsibility!” He exclaimed fiercely, ”Men, set...”

Before the word ”fire” was uttered, an incredulous Wen Hao shouted sharply, ”Wait!”

Too astounded, too shocked, his voice changed tone.

He stared wide-eyed at Yu Shikui, incredulous, ”Lord Yu, you... you want to burn me too?”

Yu Shikui, righteously, said, ”General Wen, since you are in an epidemic area, our County Magistrate is truly helpless!”

Huangfu Jingchen frowned; he hadn’t expected that revealing Wen Hao, Yu Shikui would still persist in his cruel decision. He whispered lightly into Wen Hao’s ear, ”Didn’t we tour the quarantine zone yesterday? You can tell him about the situation there!”

Wen Hao snapped out of his daze and quickly said, ”Lord Yu, I came to Wangshan Town to see if the epidemic here is as severe as claimed. After yesterday’s observation, the epidemic in Wangshan Town is actually under control now! Moreover, a cure for the epidemic has truly been developed, and many critically ill patients have turned a corner!”

If it were yesterday, Wen Hao certainly wouldn’t have been willing to say such things.

But now, standing among Wangshan Town’s people, with Yu Shikui showing no leniency towards him, he must make Yu Shikui retract his order.

And the only way to make Yu Shikui retract his order was probably to argue this place shouldn’t be burned!

He was also self-aware, knowing at this moment, with his status, he couldn’t stop Yu Shikui’s intentions.

Besides, he had been captured by Huangfu Jingchen, but now, in front of Yu Shikui and so many of his subordinates, he absolutely couldn’t say so. A dignified Fourth Rank Military Officer, Military Commander, captured while preparing to sleep—his authority would be undermined!

So he portrayed himself as responsible and conscientious, saying he went to observe and learn.

Yu Shikui inwardly cursed Wen Hao. This bastard, does he even know what he’s saying?

I’ve condemned this place as the source of the epidemic, the epicenter of the pestilence. Burning this place is to cut off the source, for the safety of Northern County citizens, for Nanxia!

But Wen Hao claims the epidemic is improving, with people being cured?

If word spreads, not only would I not have eradicated the epidemic, I’d be seen as a cruel tyrant.

When Wen Hao was presented, the military strategist was taken aback; their General hadn’t fled responsibility but was captured by Wangshan Town people.

He had commanded those generals, using Wen General’s Command Token, to drive people into the quarantine zone; would Wen General hold him to account?

His eyes turned cold, and he said icily, ”Wen Hao, you are so cowardly, claiming the epidemic is controlled just because you’re in an epidemic area! If the epidemic were easy to control, would it still be called an epidemic? If the epidemic were easy to control, would so many have died? As a Military General, you dare to lie out of fear for your life, how is this different from desertion?”

Wen Hao was anxious, ”Lord Yu, what I say is true...” Wen Hao was worried, seeing Huangfu Jingchen was not stopping him; he wanted to charge through the outer soldiers, directly facing Yu Shikui.

”Stop!” Yu Shikui hastily said, ”Restrain him!”

These were Wen Hao’s soldiers; they couldn’t help but hesitate.

Yu Shikui loudly exclaimed, ”General Wen is infected with the epidemic and intends to spread it beyond Wangshan Town. All men, kill without mercy!”

Wen Hao felt as if struck by lightning; he shouted, ”Yu Shikui, how dare you!”

The soldiers, hearing Wen Hao had contracted the epidemic, raised their spears again, aiming at Wen Hao.

Yu Shikui shouted, ”For the safety of Northern County, to prevent the epidemic from infecting the innocent, what we do now is a last resort.”

Wen Hao glared at the military strategist, ”Sun Honghai, while I’m not here, who permitted you to mobilize troops under my name?”

Military strategist Sun Honghai’s eyes flickered. Seeing Wen Hao’s eyes filled with fury, he realized he’d stepped on the wrong spot. The Command Token was left in the military tent; this wasn’t Wen Hao’s plan. He must’ve been secretly captured by Wangshan Town’s people, explaining why it went unnoticed.

Now, having already used the Command Token to mobilize troops, and Wen Hao remembering it, what should he do?

Seeing his intent to retreat, Yu Shikui immediately said, ”Sun Honghai, Wen Hao has contracted the epidemic, will you still follow his orders?”

Sun Honghai, being able to serve as Wen Hao’s military strategist, treated as an honored guest, was, of course, quick-witted. He certainly understood that an epidemic couldn’t be contracted in just one night. However, if Yu Shikui said it was contracted, then it was. Only if Wen Hao was ”infected” would today’s affairs be accounted for.

He nodded, ”Lord Yu is right. Every man cherishes life; it’s not surprising Wen General reacts as such, but for the sake of Northern County citizens, to prevent the epidemic from infecting more people, this villainy, I’d willingly commit!”
