The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 198: Chapter 198: You Were Picked Up

No.

Xia Wenjin denied this idea.

Huangfu Yuxuan’s identity as the Imperial Grandson is something he would never easily reveal. He is ruthless, cautious, and protects himself exceptionally well. He wouldn’t disclose his identity and risk even a tiny bit of danger.

Thinking of this, Xia Wenjin turned back: ”Sichen, do you know who Huangfu Yuxuan is?”

If he knows, dad must know; if he doesn’t, who knows if dad knows or not! It’s something that needs further investigation.

Xia Wenjin gave her a light tap on the head and scolded: ”Show some respect, call me brother!”

His posture was full of authority, but the tap was gentle.

In his previous life, Xia Wenjin wasn’t so perceptive and couldn’t fully sense this affection, but now a warmth rose in her heart, and she called out obediently: ”Brother!”

Xia Sichen was startled, almost tumbling off the roof. He looked at Xia Wenjin, eyes wide with shock: ”Did you get it wrong, or did I hear it wrong?”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Alright, with such a brother, best not be too polite.

”Say whatever you want!” Then she kicked Xia Sichen off the roof.

Xia Sichen slid down the roof like he was skating but managed to catch the edge with an outstretched hand and flipped back up.

Not only was he not angry, but he happily jogged back, sat beside Xia Wenjin, and said with a wild look: ”I thought my sister was possessed by a ghost, but thank goodness, she’s still the genuine sister!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

She couldn’t help but ask: ”What do you mean possessed by a ghost? Was I so bad before?”

”Not quite,” Xia Sichen replied with a playful memory: ”Climbing trees to catch birds at two, placing mice beside Uncle Hua’s pillow at three, stealing Uncle Zhuo’s sword at four, making him trade it back with a big box of candied fruit, sneaking down the mountain at five causing chaos in the village, watering Uncle Bai’s precious wine at six... And every time you caused trouble, dad couldn’t bear to hit you, so he’d pull me over and give me a beating! You see, my rough skin now is all due to dad’s beatings.”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

She wanted to say that maybe it wasn’t her, but she knew it truly was.

Since she was a child, she was spoiled by everyone in the village, especially her father who treated her like a precious gem. This upbringing had made her mischievous and crafty, and the uncles in the village didn’t take her antics seriously but always braced themselves for her tricks.

Thinking back on those times, she sighed wistfully, thankful that they were still around. She hoped to return to the mountain one day and thank them for their care.

Xia Wenjin felt a bit sentimental, hiding her emotions with a stern face: ”You still haven’t answered my question!”

”About Huangfu Yuxuan’s identity? Of course, I know!” Xia Sichen laid back on the roof, using his hands as a pillow and looked leisurely at the starry sky as he responded.

Xia Wenjin’s heart sank, you know?

She asked hoarsely: ”What is his identity then?”

Xia Sichen replied: ”His dad is a big merchant, with businesses spread across many provinces, and a grand house in the Capital City filled with servants!”

Xia Wenjin asked skeptically: ”A big merchant?”

Xia Sichen affirmed: ”Yes, I’ve checked, and even met his dad, a man in his forties, dressed like a scholar, sharp-eyed, clearly suited for big business.”

Xia Wenjin frowned: ”How do you know that’s his dad?”

He investigated and found this result?

Of course, it wasn’t Xia Sichen being careless, but Huangfu Yuxuan had anticipated that Haotian Village would dig into his background. He carefully planned, never revealing his true roots.

Xia Sichen said: ”While on the mountain, I subtly probed, and he told me himself. Once I got the information, I immediately went to the Capital City, found the said location, and met his dad, just as he described! Moreover, he’s quite low-key, his dad is stronger than what he made him out to be.”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Huangfu Yuxuan approached with careful intent, his actions very cautious. Xia Sichen thought he was getting information effortlessly, not realizing Huangfu Yuxuan was the calculating one.

The man Xia Sichen investigated, believed to be Huangfu Yuxuan’s ”dad,” is probably his chief strategist Wu Tongfeng.

To deceive Xia Sichen, Huangfu Yuxuan didn’t even need to send a message back. Wu Tongfeng, who could plot for the royal position, was obviously much more than a regular merchant. Xia Wenjin saw that he was stronger than described, not just making a blind guess!

However, they were in the Jianghu, disconnected from court politics, and their experiences limited their imagination, not allowing them to think deeper, higher, or further.

Xia Wenjin thought of something, she turned: ”Was this your private action? Dad doesn’t know?”

Xia Sichen glanced sideways at her: ”Huangfu Yuxuan is going to marry my sister, of course, I’d probe into his ancestors. Don’t you know dad well enough? He trusts easily, and sees Huangfu Yuxuan as a son-in-law. If he knew I was secretly investigating him, he’d surely scold me! I’m constantly absent from the village, and I don’t say why, so he doesn’t bother questioning where I go. Wenjin, do you think I might be adopted? Dad treats you and me totally differently!”

Xia Wenjin felt warmth inside, chuckled: ”Yeah, you’re adopted!”

Xia Sichen, worried as an older brother, quietly investigated Huangfu Yuxuan’s background, even though the information was misguided, it showed he genuinely cared for her like a responsible elder brother.

Xia Sichen sat up, looked at Xia Wenjin with a mournful expression: ”I always suspected I was adopted. Wenjin, don’t you know that the truth is cruel, how could you be so cruel as to tell me the truth?”

Xia Wenjin said: ”Oops, didn’t mean to slip that out! What should I do now?”

Xia Sichen looked heartbroken: ”No, my heart is hurt, the truth is so brutal, I can’t take it. You must treat me to a nice meal, no, two meals!”

Xia Wenjin sighed: ”My fault, my fault, I should make it up to you, but it’s late now, and the restaurants are closed. What about tomorrow?”

Xia Sichen clutched his chest: ”I feel terrible, so sad, being adopted, the sky is falling, the earth is sinking, there’s no light ahead, my heart is breaking... Tomorrow, double it, no, quadruple!”

Xia Wenjin found it amusing and infuriating, rolling her eyes: ”Aren’t you tired of this theatrical act all day?”

Xia Sichen released his hand, no longer pretending to be hurt, lively as ever: ”Tired of what? Life is so dull, can’t I find some amusement?”
