The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Digging a Grave

Xia Wenjin sat on one side, propping her chin up with both hands, asleep.

Her long eyelashes covered her eyelids, fluttering lightly like two small fans, her breathing even, yet her brows were tightly knit, as if her sleep was not peaceful.

Of course, napping like this wasn’t comfortable.

Huangfu Jingchen blinked, trying to clear his thoughts, considering that with such injuries, he had given up any hope while unconscious. Yet, he wasn’t dead?

He had lost so much blood, suffered such severe injuries, could he still be alive?

Probably not, right?

So, he thought he woke up, but perhaps he was still dreaming? Or, was this another world?

But where in another world would there be Xia Wenjin?

He silently looked at Xia Wenjin; this Wenjin, serene and peaceful, even if her sleep was uneasy, was still captivating.

He truly wanted to keep looking at her like this, forever and ever!

Huangfu Jingchen knew this was impossible.

The image of her in women’s clothing kept flickering before him. How wonderful it would be if she were a woman! He would surely muster all his strength to overcome all odds and enter her heart!

Unfortunately, she’s not!

Her words at Shian Temple echoed in his ears again.

He didn’t even know when he started having different feelings for Wenjin. Was he Long Yang? Did he like men? He seriously thought about this question, and the answer was no, he didn’t!

What he liked was simply Wenjin, the person.

If it weren’t Wenjin, whether it was a woman or a man, he wouldn’t like them.

Before, he never dreamed that one day, his feelings would land him in such an awkward situation.

His feelings were at odds with societal norms. If Wenjin could accept, he was willing to ignore everyone else’s judgment and just be with her.

However, Wenjin herself was unwilling!

Seeing her with opened eyes, Huangfu Jingchen felt very happy in his heart, but also confused, unable to tell if this was another dream or reality.

He reached out, wanting to touch her. Only upon lifting his hand did he notice it was wrapped in thick layers, bandaged so well. This wasn’t a dream!

With his movement, Xia Wenjin’s eyes opened.

Their gazes locked.

In Huangfu Jingchen’s eyes, there was excitement, and

In Xia Wenjin’s eyes, a glimmer, full of relief: ”You finally woke up!”

Huangfu Jingchen weakly said, ”How long was I unconscious?”

Xia Wenjin lowered her gaze, saying lightly, ”Not long, just three days!” As if the gleam in her eyes earlier was just an illusion.

Yet, in her nonchalance,

During these three days, he had fevers twice more.

But Xia Wenjin, having gained experience, quickly brought his fever down. With him unconscious, Xia Wenjin dared not move him, those severe injuries could worsen at any moment, and then it would be

Huangfu Jingchen lay on that makeshift straw mattress for three nights.

Luckily, he woke up!

Xia Wenjin glanced at him, stretching her arms, saying, ”You’ve got a big life; I thought you wouldn’t make it. Now it’s fine, no need to worry anymore!”

”Worry about what?”

”Digging a grave, of course. After getting to know each other, if you died, wouldn’t I have to bury you?” Xia Wenjin gave him a sidelong glance, not too friendly.

Huangfu Jingchen: ”...”

What she said wasn’t wrong; it just sounded odd.

Well, actually, if he passed away, having someone willing to dig a grave for him was already a different kind of friendship. He was content!

”Gurgle, gurgle...”

A loud sound.

Xia Wenjin looked down, with a half-smile at Huangfu Jingchen: ”Hungry?”

Huangfu Jingchen raised his hand, wrapped like a big dumpling, and pointed at her: ”Yours!”

”Gurgle, gurgle...”

Xia Wenjin looked down, and indeed, it was her stomach growling.

The atmosphere became inexplicably awkward.

These three days, she hadn’t eaten properly or slept well. Having lost too much blood, her energy wasn’t good, and she even misjudged.

She smiled and said, ”It’s okay, I just slept through meal time. My fish is roasted now; there’s food right away.” Saying this, she stood up quickly, but upon rising too abruptly, her vision darkened, a sense of dizziness swept over, nearly causing her to fall.

Fortunately, she steadied herself after stumbling a bit.

Huangfu Jingchen asked, ”How did you hurt your wrist?”

Xia Wenjin shook her arm, saying casually, ”Just bumped it accidentally! How else would I get hurt? It’s just a minor injury, unlike someone who doesn’t have any good flesh left on their body!”

Huangfu Jingchen heard this wasn’t a good conversation to start and could only smile, ”You eat your fish!”

Xia Wenjin turned her head, looking at the fire pit, huh, where’s the fish?

On the rack, there were two fish-shaped pieces of charcoal; that was her roasted fish, right?

Having been too exhausted, she had only taken short naps, and this time it ended badly again.

Xia Wenjin turned back and saw Huangfu Jingchen’s gaze also resting on those fish-shaped pieces of charcoal, Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Roasting the fish to this state, truly embarrassing.

She shrugged, saying, ”Actually, there wasn’t any fish. I was just fooling you!”

Huangfu Jingchen nodded, seriously stating, ”I know! In ancient times, they drew pancakes to stave off hunger, you draw fish to stave off hunger!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Now it was her turn to be speechless. She rolled her eyes and said, ”I like drawing fish to stave off hunger!”

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”Once I’m better, I’ll catch fish for you, so you won’t have to draw fish to stave off hunger!”

Xia Wenjin gave him a sidelong glance: ”Will the fish you catch taste better? Who needs them?”

Despite being rebuked, Huangfu Jingchen not only didn’t get angry but laughed. It was quite rare to see Wenjin like this.

Usually, she was either playful or sly, mischievous or free-spirited, indifferent or nonchalant, but this time, she opened her mouth to retort.

What did this different attitude mean?

However, earlier, her sudden dizziness and the wound on her wrist, though it was bandaged tightly, the scent of blood still seeped through. How did she get injured?

Injured as she was, she kept taking care of him, to the point that she fell asleep sitting there!

Three days!

In these three days, she snatched a person who nearly died back from King Yama’s hands; how much had she done for him?

He could feel the herbal scent on his body and the tightly bound wounds.

With so many wounds and having lost so much blood, he woke up in only three days?

He didn’t think it was because his body was strong, able to regain consciousness so quickly under those circumstances.

It seemed it wasn’t his strength but her efforts!

She was probably afraid he’d ask, which was why she spoke so sharply!

Xia Wenjin left and, after a while, returned with a few fruits in hand, her face dark.

She had been eating these fruits for three days. It was hard to catch two fish downstream in a pool thinking she could improve their meals, only to overcook them into charcoal. No wonder she was in a foul mood.

She handed a fruit over, saying, ”Make do with it?”

Huangfu Jingchen found it odd; he clearly had a meaty taste in his mouth.
