The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 179: Chapter 179: Won’t Renegue

Amidst the authoritative shout of the Prefecture Minister, the young man uttered a few inexplicable words.

The Prefecture Minister’s attendants didn’t understand the meaning of those words, but the Prefecture Minister’s face immediately changed drastically and he invited the young man into his room.

Two quarters of an hour later, the young man left, departing easily, while the Prefecture Minister emerged much later, his face pale. Shortly after, he promptly ordered people to pack up and set off back home immediately.

The uninvited young man was Xia Wenjin.

The little booklet of Jue Zhou was in her hands, to make the people of Da Jin Prefecture back off, she had a hundred and one ways!

When the Da Jin Prefecture submitted the details of the case, all the evidence, confessions, and preliminary verdicts sealed to the Ministry of Justice, the case, as far as it concerned Huangfu Jingchen and Xia Wenjin, had nothing more to do with them.

The Da Jin Prefect stated that thanks to Huangfu Jingchen’s timely discovery, more people were not harmed, removing such a malignant tumor is a blessing for the villagers and a boundless merit. Hence, he must invite Huangfu Jingchen for a meal.

Huangfu Jingchen thought of the more than thirty women seeking children, and thanks to the Da Jin Prefect’s flexibility, he owed the Da Jin Prefect a favor, so he should honor this meal.

The Da Jin Prefect was exceedingly hospitable, and after the meal, he wanted to give him gifts, but Huangfu Jingchen politely declined.

Upon leaving the Da Jin Prefect’s residence, he was again blocked by Sang Xuewei, who was waiting there.

At this moment, Huangfu Jingchen had no mood to deal with Sang Xuewei. Ever since he forcefully kissed Xia Wenjin in the meditation room, Xia Wenjin had become much colder towards him; after descending the mountain, she had been avoiding him these days. Was it disdain, or disgust?

This made him feel very uncomfortable!

Now that this matter was settled, the one he wanted to see the most was Xia Wenjin.

After finally shaking off Sang Xuewei, he went to find Xia Wenjin, only to find her room already empty.

He inquired with the shopkeeper and learned that Xia Wenjin had checked out and left two hours ago.

Huangfu Jingchen was somewhat dazed.

He hadn’t actually figured out what to do when alone with Xia Wenjin again, but he convinced himself that his jade pendant was still with Xia Wenjin, so he still needed to see her.

But he never expected Xia Wenjin would leave without a word.

No, it should be said she left to avoid him.

He felt a sense of disappointment and bewilderment, his heart filled with a kind of desolation that made him utterly dispirited.

At this moment, the shopkeeper came over and asked, ”Is your surname Huang, young master?”

Huangfu Jingchen was startled for a moment; Huang Zheng was his alias, so he nodded!

The shopkeeper said, ”A Mr. Xia mentioned that he went ahead to Liangzhou to redeem the item you need, so you don’t have to worry about him reneging!”

Huangfu Jingchen sighed softly, reneging?

The Xia Wenjin he knew was exactly the type to renege!

She loved money, liked good things, liked silver notes, liked silver. If she reneged, that would be her nature.

But now, she actually told him not to worry about her reneging and even informed him of her whereabouts.

She went to redeem the jade pendant; she intended to return the jade pendant to him and from then on, clear all accounts, so she wouldn’t renege!

The words ”clear all accounts” merely brushed past his heart, and Huangfu Jingchen felt a wave of discomfort.

But what could he do?

If clearing all accounts was what Xia Wenjin wanted, then so be it!

The jade pendant was very important to him, but now, he didn’t want to take it back.

He might as well return, return to Yunzhou.

From this moment on, Xia Wenjin would only exist in his heart, and this budding love in his heart would be extinguished from now on!

Upon learning that he was finally returning, Jiang Ning was very pleased. He went to the shopkeeper, checked out, prepared all the luggage, and informed the Da Jin Prefect of Huangfu Jingchen’s departure. The Da Jin Prefect even sent over a two-horse carriage. With these two swift horses, they could reach Yunzhou in half a month.

Outside the inn, Huangfu Jingchen walked towards the carriage.

Jiang Ning cheerfully said, ”Young master, I’ve sent the message out, Yan Nan and Bian Ming have completed the tasks you assigned and will meet up with us. You’ve been out for nearly four months, and the lord, lady, young miss, and young master must be missing you terribly!”

Thinking of his father, mother, sister, and brother, Huangfu Jingchen’s expression slightly eased, he said, ”Let’s go!”

Jiang Ning took the driver’s seat and with a flick of the whip, the carriage started moving towards Yunzhou.

Inside the carriage, Huangfu Jingchen sat alone, feeling a bit disoriented.

Ever since he saw Xia Wenjin in front of the Qiwu Building in Jinzhou, he seemed never to have sat in a carriage again.

The first time they met, he treated her to a meal, offered her lodging at an inn, and she swept away all his silver, turning him from a well-off nobleman to a penniless pauper. He barely survived by selling the jade ring on his hand, while he chased, and she fled. Each time he caught up, he suffered losses, was calculated against, and was teased by her.

He should have been very angry.

But he knew that even though she took his silver, she immediately gave it away to others.

The poor nun and daughter in Jinzhou, without means of livelihood, his silver became their refuge, their livelihood source.

A few thousand ounces, she left just a few for herself.

And there was Widow Liu.

When Widow Liu was bullied and in danger, Xia Wenjin stood up for her. At that time, Xia Wenjin only had twelve ounces of silver left on her, and she didn’t keep any for herself, giving it all to Widow Liu!

In Yuqing County, the Yuqing County Governor and his daughter were oppressing the villagers, a matter that had nothing to do with Xia Wenjin, yet she still intervened without hesitation, regardless of whether she could handle it.

She was mischievous, a drama queen, and the things she did to him were simply inexcusable.

However, she would use her clever brain to do silly things, matters of Jing Xian’s mother and daughter, Widow Liu, the Yuqing County Governor, all of which offered her no benefit, weren’t they foolish acts?

But it was these ”foolish acts” that attracted Huangfu Jingchen to her.

Her smile, her mischief, her nonchalance, her indifference...

Her slightly curling lips with a hint of playfulness, her pure and clear eyes, her glance-back smile, her cunning wit with a touch of mischief...

So vivid, replaying one by one in his mind.

Huangfu Jingchen sternly said, ”Stop the carriage!”

Jiang Ning hastily pulled the reins, ”Whoa...”

The horse stopped, the carriage swayed slightly due to the sudden halt, and Huangfu Jingchen had already lifted the curtain, leaping from the carriage.

Jiang Ning hurriedly asked, ”Does the young master have any business? I can attend to it!”

Huangfu Jingchen instead walked to one of the horses and untied the reins.

Jiang Ning was puzzled, ”Young master, what do you need the horse for?”

Huangfu Jingchen mounted the horse and said to him, ”You head back to Yunzhou first, I still have some matters to attend to, I’ll return later!”

Jiang Ning anxiously asked, ”Young master, why did you change your mind again? That horse has no saddle... I’ll go with you!”

”You return to Yunzhou!” Huangfu Jingchen’s voice came from afar, the horse running faster and faster, leaving a rapidly retreating silhouette.
