Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 336: 336 become a family

When Zheng Lanying was left alone, she burst into tears, knowing what she had lost.

She wasn’t a conservative person; in her past life, she had a boyfriend. But coming here, she knew it wasn’t as open, understood how important this was for a woman.

Now, to be taken by a man she despises. It’s so ironic.

But it’s fine, just this one time, then I can forget it, as if it never happened.

Even if I suffer a loss, I don’t want to live with someone like that. Crying, she fell asleep.

Ma Dongmei took Xiang Zhiqiang home. Seeing her mother’s surprised look, she knew her father hadn’t said anything since he got back.

”Mom, I want to live with Xiang Zhiqiang.”

”Dongmei, what’s gotten into you?”

”No, my dad knows. I’m here to pack my things. And give me the grain too.” She didn’t dare mention money, knowing her mom didn’t have any.

Ma Changshun came out from another room, staring at the two of them. But he spoke to his wife.

”Give her a hundred pounds of wheat and a hundred pounds of corn, also ten pounds of cotton.”

”Dearest, is this for real?”

”Yes, go ahead.”

At this point, it was just the three of them left in the room.

”Don’t come back with any issues in the future.” He also resented his daughter’s lack of self-respect.

”Dad, you’ll always be my dad.”

Ma Changshun snorted, turned around, and went inside.

Only then did Ma Dongmei start packing her things.

She had quite a bit to pack. Xiang Zhiqiang just stood by.

”You go back and get ready for the cart. Oh wait, I forgot, you don’t have a cart. Never mind, just start moving things back.”

”Xiang Zhiqiang, let’s move over to this side. With my dad helping us, it will be convenient in this group, and with this three hundred yuan, we should buy a little donkey.”

Xiang Zhiqiang was indeed tired of living alone.

Zheng Lanying was acceptable, but so was Ma Dongmei; after all, nights were the same, and Ma Dongmei was slightly better than Zheng Lanying.

He actually hoped Ma Changshun would make a fuss or simply ignore Ma Dongmei. That way, he wouldn’t have anything to worry about in the future. But seeing Ma Changshun’s attitude, this girl was still his daughter.

Fine, moving over would be nice; having a team leader father-in-law isn’t bad either.

”Alright, Dongmei, you take a rest while I move the luggage back.”

At this moment, Ma Changshun’s wife came in. She was still bewildered but had heard what her daughter said.

”I’ll drive and see you off.” No matter what, the daughter was still hers.

All the belongings and grains were loaded onto the cart, and Ma Changshun’s wife secretly gave half a sack more of wheat. There was a lot left over this year.

Seeing the setup at Xiang Zhiqiang’s house, Ma Changshun’s wife almost teared up again. Which one of the suitors she introduced to this stubborn girl was worse than Xiang Zhiqiang?

After Xiang Zhiqiang unloaded the cart, she drove back home.

Now it was just the two of them left at home.

Xiang Zhiqiang hurried to make a fire, while Ma Dongmei, not being particularly efficient, just put her stuff away and got onto the kang bed.

This matter didn’t stir any waves; Xiang Zhiqiang and Ma Dongmei never left the house, just staying home being lively.

They found pleasure in it, thinking this was the best.

Xiang Zhiqiang didn’t seek out Zheng Lanying anymore. Now he listened to whatever Ma Dongmei said.

Zheng Lanying had been waiting for Xiang Zhiqiang to come over. She couldn’t afford to lose this labor force, still counting on him for work.

She waited like this for a week. Xiang Zhiqiang, like a phantom, never came. Now, she felt uncertain.

But she couldn’t go looking for him; that would ruin her reputation.

She was furious with Xiang Zhiqiang; this man was truly worthless.

Yet she was thankful she hadn’t been entangled with him.

Anyway, she was deeply troubled, feeling very uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, Tan Shaoting had started making sausages, following Su Yuanyuan’s instructions.

There was a delectable aroma every day.

With just their family of five at home, Tan Shaoting found himself addicted to this life.

Outside, Zhao Yanli had already arrived at the pesticide factory.

She went straight to the guard to look for Peng Haishan.

Zhao Yanli was quite lucky; Peng Haishan had just returned yesterday.

He was puzzled to hear a female comrade was looking for him.

When he went out, he saw two trucks driving into the factory.

Was this Su Yuanyuan coming?

But there stood an unfamiliar tightly wrapped female comrade at the gate waiting for him.

”Excuse me, are you looking for me?”

”Are you Peng Haishan, Comrade Peng?”

”Yes, I am. And you are?”

”I’m from the Second Farm. Su Yuanyuan couldn’t make it this year due to some matters. She sent me to find you.”

Peng Haishan understood, ”Alright, I’ll take you to see the director; as for whether it works out, I can’t say.”

Zhao Yanli nodded. Yuanyuan had told her that the decision lay with Director Peng.

”Thank you, Comrade Peng.” The city’s approval was in her hands.

They walked in silence until they reached the director’s office.

Peng Jianghui already knew the Second Farm had returned the barrels, with two trucks, so he knew they came to collect pesticides.

This year, he had included the Second Farm in his plans.

He also anticipated that young girl who came last year to make more sausages; they had been well-received as gifts last year.

He was surprised to see his son bringing in another young woman.

Zhao Yanli composed herself and poured out the words she had rehearsed countless times. ”Director Peng, I’m from the Second Farm. I’m here to pick up pesticides; here’s the official approval, please have a look.”

Peng Haishan didn’t leave this time; he wanted to learn about Su Yuanyuan, but didn’t feel right asking earlier.

Peng Haishan nodded, took a look at the approval. It was larger than last year’s but within his plans.

”Okay, I’ll sign it; you just need to pay in the accounting office.

But comrades, may I ask why Su Yuanyuan didn’t come this year?”

”Director Peng, Su Yuanyuan is on maternity leave, so she couldn’t come.”

Both father and son were shocked, maternity leave? Could it really be what they thought?

”Xiao Su had a baby?”

Zhao Yanli nodded, ”Yes, so it was just me and our accountant who came.”

”Alright, send my congratulations to Xiao Su when you return.”

This particular sausage recipe this year was only made at home; it just didn’t have the same taste.

Zhao Yanli suddenly remembered, hurriedly squatted down, and took two canisters from her bag.

”Director Peng, Comrade Peng, this is what Yuanyuan asked me to bring to you. She said it’s the sausage seasoning; just mix it into the filling, adding five spoonfuls per ten pounds of filling.”

Peng Jianghui smiled; she was such a perceptive girl.

Peng Haishan accepted it. Although he felt a bit disappointed, he didn’t show it on his face.
