Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 317: 317 Ready

The two sisters are quite fast at cooking.

Su Yuanyuan really loves eating these dumplings. They’re fresh and tasty, especially with the crispy bits of oil, they smell great.

Before leaving, the sisters also fed all the livestock at home.

The three of them were walking on the way home. ”Big sis, I’ll come over every day to feed the livestock for Yuanyuan from now on,” said the younger sister.

”Okay, you’ll have to exert yourself a bit then. Otherwise, it’s too hard on her alone, and pregnancy is already very tiring for a woman.

I’ll handle the work at home. You just help Yuanyuan more,” said the elder sister.

The sisters hadn’t visited their two brothers’ homes in a long time, so they hitched up the cart and went. Sun Yun’s belly had also gotten very big, but she still didn’t rest. All the chores at home were done by her, and she also took care of Xiao Ling.

”Wow, why has Hai Yan gotten so chubby?”

The little girl smiled brightly. She knew it was a compliment.

Xiao Ling also came over to play with her cousin.

”Elder sister-in-law, don’t tire yourself too much.”

Zhao Yanli looked at her elder sister-in-law’s belly and realized it was much smaller than Yuanyuan’s. Plus, it seemed the elder sister-in-law was due soon.

Just looking at her makes one feel tired, let alone Su Yuanyuan.

”Have you two applied fertilizer?” Sun Yun asked with a smile.

”Yes, Yuanyuan was the first to notice and told us,”

”Did Yuanyuan’s crops get fertilized? I didn’t let your elder brother do it.”

”Yes, it’s all done. Director Feng found people for it, two dollars a day.”

”That’s great, Director Feng is really thoughtful.

With him taking care of things for Yuanyuan, it’s quite nice. Otherwise, we’d have to finish our work before going over, which would have been too late.”

”Elder sister-in-law, when Yuanyuan gives birth, I’ll send Hai Yan over. I’ll go to the hospital with her.”

Sun Yun nodded, ”No problem. Are both of you going together?”

At this moment, Zhao Yanli was all smiles. ”Yuanyuan asked me to go to the fertilizer plant and pesticide factory.”

Sun Yun laughed, ”Now you can go as you please.”

”Indeed, I can finally go out. Although someone from the department has to accompany me, I can still make a trip out, can’t I?”

”Alright, when the time comes, Hai Yan will stay here, and Xiao Ling and the others will have company.”

”Elder sister-in-law, you’re due in about a month too, aren’t you?”

”Yes, it’s really not the best timing. Your elder brother alone is too tired. I can’t help much either.”

”We’re here as well. We’ll finish quickly and come over.”

”Help Yuanyuan with some of her work.” The help the family received is always in the hearts of those who care.

”We don’t have to, Director Feng found people from outside, and Yuanyuan said it’s better to just spend money. After the harvesting is done, it’s directly handed over to the department, which Director Feng agreed to.”

”That’s good, Yuanyuan is growing corn, wheat, and cotton, right?”

”Yes, just these three. Directly handing them over is also fine.”

”Elder sister-in-law, what’s my elder brother doing in the fields? I’ll go help out a bit.”

”No need, just weeding. You two can rest for a while.”

The two girls didn’t stay for long, they took the cart to the Second Brother’s house to have a look.

The same was true for their household, with the little nephew lying at home while the husband and wife were weeding.

To be honest, this second sister-in-law is even stronger-willed than the elder sister-in-law.

When they arrived at Zhao Xiaojing’s home, they saw the mother and daughter at home, Xu Hongbing must have gone to the fields.

They looked at the child, exchanged a few words, and then left with the cart.

The days passed like this, and it was soon the end of August. The wheat was ready to be harvested. That day, Feng Baoshan came by especially.

”Xiao Su, I’m heading to the city now and will bring people back to harvest the wheat directly. Don’t worry, the department has sickles.”

”Great, thanks a lot, Director Feng. Please get more people, once the wheat is harvested, we’ll start picking corn. I think our corn is ready too.”

Feng Baoshan went into the cornfield, walked around, and nodded when he came back.

”Alright, after harvesting the wheat, we’ll pick the corn directly.

The corn will be handed in along with the cotton. This way, they’ll tidy it all up for you.”

”That’s wonderful.” Su Yuanyuan was genuinely grateful to Feng Baoshan.

Feng Baoshan drove to the city, still needing to bring back a few people.

That day, Tan Shaoting got off the train and immediately ran home without stopping. He maintained a normal pace while still in the city, but once outside, where there were fewer people, he used his superpower, moving several times faster.

He was exhausted. Truly exhausted, but he gritted his teeth and persisted. When he couldn’t go on, he drank a cup of Spiritual Spring Water. He kept going like this.

On the road, he encountered Feng Baoshan driving.

Actually, Feng Baoshan had already noticed someone running incredibly fast. He wondered who it could be, running under the blazing sun on such a hot day?

”Director Feng.” Tan Shaoting stopped, panting heavily as he spoke.

”Xiao Tan?” Feng Baoshan exclaimed, surprised.

”Director Feng, I’m on my way home. How is Yuanyuan?”

”Xiao Tan, it’s really you. Good heavens, how are you running so fast?

Don’t worry, I saw Xiao Su this morning. She’s doing well, and I’m going to the city this time to find workers for your family.

Your crops are due for harvesting. I’ve already arranged everything.”

”Thanks a lot, Director Feng. I’ll head back first, please find more people.”

”No problem, take it easy on the running. It’s so hot out, don’t get heatstroke.”

”Alright, thank you, Director Feng.” Tan Shaoting promised to remember Feng Baoshan’s kindness and repay it doubly.

Knowing that his wife was alright, Tan Shaoting felt a bit relieved but didn’t slow down. He kept up the pace, eager to see his wife.

As Tan Shaoting dashed quickly out of sight, Feng Baoshan didn’t get to say everything he wanted.

Actually, he wanted to mention that with how large her belly looked, she might be pregnant with more than one child.

But he thought, Tan Shaoting would find out soon enough, so he left it at that.

He drove the cart onward to the city. His face was all smiles, seeing that this man had returned just in time before his wife was about to give birth,

Being young is great. Just looking at Xiao Tan’s actions and expressions told him everything.

After Feng Baoshan left, Su Yuanyuan felt a particularly sore back, so she went back to lie down. The babies were almost eight months old, and they seemed more and more active.

Sometimes they moved so much it felt uncomfortable; they were just too playful.

Lying on the kang bed, she drank a cup of water, which made her feel a bit better.

After resting for a while, she got up to feed the livestock again.

Feeling a bit bored, she walked around the courtyard and eventually went to the fields; the wheat had already turned yellow. It wasn’t too early to harvest now.

Feng Baoshan really took his responsibilities seriously; she mustn’t forget his kindness in the future.

Otherwise, she would have been worrying needlessly. Thinking back, her pregnancy didn’t delay much.

It was mainly because of the help they received. Otherwise, even if they didn’t receive any food, it would have felt uncomfortable. That’s how rural people are.
