Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 308: Decision 308

”That’s something for the future. I’m talking about this year. I just applied with the leaders, and they haven’t agreed yet. Can you speak to them on my behalf? I’ve looked through the first task.

Any task is fine, just not a long-term one.

Honestly, I feel grateful, but at the same time, I regret it very much. I shouldn’t have married her now; it’s not fair to her.

So I want to complete the task quickly so I can spend more time with her.”

Actually, Tan Shaoting would prefer to take leave in the spring or summer, so his wife wouldn’t be so exhausted.

But he knows this idea is not realistic. Even like this, the leaders haven’t directly agreed.

”Your idea is very good, but this is a disciplined organization. It’s not about what you want to do. Otherwise, it would be chaos in the future.”

Tan Shaoting understood what this meant, ”I know, but there should be exceptions, right? I’ll complete the most difficult tasks.”

Zhang Chunsheng is not foolish either. He knows it’s indeed inhumane for the newlywed couple to be separated like this, and he’s most afraid of Tan Shaoting wanting to leave.

Given his performance over the years, he could certainly opt to leave. You can’t forever restrain a person with a sense of honor or duty; one excuse is enough.

”Alright, I’ll discuss this with the leaders. But you should first focus on completing your tasks.”

Of course, Tan Shaoting understood, so he didn’t say much. It’s enough that the higher-ups understand his intentions. Actually, relatively speaking, they’re quite free.

Honestly, none of them have undergone training. Not just the teammates are puzzled, he himself finds it unbelievable. But his abilities are no less than theirs, which could be why they agreed.

The day after Tan Shaoting came back, the team set off.

Su Yuanyuan had stayed there for about half a month. This year’s snow had already melted. She was bored anyway, so she cleaned up the backyard since they had to plant vegetables. She also cleaned up outside the courtyard wall, preparing to plant winter melon vines; they still need to keep pigs this year.

Actually, she had a good winter; all the other women in the household were sewing and mending, while the men were rubbing corn.

They wouldn’t spare moisture for themselves; they hustled to hand over the tasks, and as for their own corn, they’d rub it in winter.

She found Zhao Yanli, and the two of them drove to the village to buy little pigs.

Now that Zhao Yanli was living on her own, she thought about raising more pigs.

”Isn’t that quite tiring?”

Zhao Yanli laughed heartily, ”I just feel that as long as it earns money, it’s fine.”

”Haha, ambitious.”

”Isn’t it? Seeing women relying on men to live, I truly don’t want to live that way. If I can earn money myself, why depend on someone else?”

Su Yuanyuan gave a thumbs up, this girl will certainly not be bad in the future. With such a strong and independent personality, she’ll succeed.

”Xiao Li, how many pigs are you planning to raise?”

”Five. I’ll raise five, but I won’t raise sows; it’s too much trouble in winter. It’s better to buy them.”

”That’s true. Raising them in winter isn’t really cost-effective, I think.”

The two girls drove to the usual place where they always bought pigs.

It’s been two years; they would come to buy pigs during this time, so the shop kept some for them especially.

This time, Su Yuanyuan got two pigs, and Zhao Xiaoli got five. These were for the two sisters. The Zhao Family’s two brothers, each got two, and Zhao Xiaojing also got two, as did the Li Family.

In total, they counted to fifteen pigs, quite a haul.

They also went to order chickens, ducks, and geese. Anyway, the two girls returned fully loaded.

”Yuanyuan, you’ve really changed now.”

”How have I changed?” She didn’t believe it herself.

”You’ve become less cheerful than before.”

Su Yuanyuan was stunned. Was she really like that? She hadn’t noticed.

”Yuanyuan, do people change like this after getting married?”

”How could it be? I think it’s because I’m still not used to Tan Shaoting leaving.”

”But Tan Shaoting hasn’t been gone for that long, and you still can’t get used to it after such a long time.”

Su Yuanyuan was stunned again. Indeed, she still hadn’t moved on from Tan Shaoting leaving.

”Thanks, Xiao Li, I understand now.”

”Now I see you and my eldest sister aren’t thinking about marriage anymore.”

”That can’t be. My sister and I would be sinners then.”

”Yuanyuan, you wouldn’t know, Xiang Zhiqiang has come to see my eldest sister several times. What’s the use of understanding now?”

Zhao Yanli was really at a loss for words. Every time Xiang Zhiqiang came by, it was as if he had been mistreated.

”I see my elder sister wants to go back. She still wants to be with Xiang Zhiqiang.

Why make such a big fuss right from the start? Now just coming home to act pitiful is enough?”

Su Yuanyuan really didn’t know Xiang Zhiqiang had come by.

”Does the elder sister really think that way?”

”Yes, the elder sister has been dazed lately. And every time Xiang Zhiqiang leaves, she sighs deeply.”

”Xiao Li, I think maybe the elder sister is thinking about Hai Yan. She probably wants the child to live with her biological father.”

”But Xiang Zhiqiang, with how easily swayed he is, didn’t take good care of them before, does he suddenly want to be strong enough to protect them? I just don’t believe it.”

”Didn’t they split the family?”

”They did, but splitting doesn’t mean he’s not one of the Xiang Family anymore, right? Also, I think their family doesn’t have good intentions; they just want the money my elder sister has.

The elder sister’s just overthinking. Raising Hai Yan by herself is better than being looked down on by others, right? If Xiang Zhiqiang wasn’t disdainful because Hai Yan was a girl, why wasn’t he more considerate?

Returning to such a family, how good could they really be to Hai Yan?”

”Xiao Li, you should share your true feelings with your elder sister. Let her decide for herself.”

”I’ve already said it. She was resolved, but every time Xiang Zhiqiang comes, she changes again. It’s so back and forth that I don’t want to say anything anymore.

As long as she’s willing, it’s not my life anyway.”

Su Yuanyuan nodded too. Outsiders can only analyze the pros and cons, but how she decides is her own business; others can’t say too much.

”If it were me, I would definitely not agree.”

”You mean once unfaithful, then never used for life?”

”I don’t know, but that’s how I feel.”

This girl is so strong, and this will make future married life very passive.

Su Yuanyuan thought about it, and chuckled wryly to herself. Isn’t she the same? Isn’t she also being affected by a man now?

”Yuanyuan, if my elder sister really leaves with Hai Yan, I’ll take her fifty acres of land to plant. Though it’ll be tiring, at least there won’t be outsiders.”
