Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 331: 331 confess some

”Sure, but it’s not possible to go in winter.” Absolutely couldn’t bear to leave the child at home.

The couple was being lovey-dovey. Tan Shaoting held his wife, feeling completely content.

During this time, Su Yuanyuan was taken care of in every way possible. She had changed a lot, becoming more mature after having a child.

Tan Shaoting comforted himself. Just over ten days and it would be his turn.

Actually, how could he not want to? But when he came back and saw his wife with a big belly, working so hard, he didn’t dare.

Afterward, during childbirth and throughout the postpartum period, even though he was quite impatient, he still didn’t dare.

Now with just over ten days left until postpartum recovery was over, of course, he had thoughts.

Finally, when the children got hungry, he let go of Su Yuanyuan.

”Wife, where are our chickens, ducks, and geese?”

”All slaughtered, otherwise taking care of them in winter would be quite troublesome.”

”That works.”

By then, there would only be a little donkey and a sheep left at home.

The sheep would definitely not be slaughtered; his wife must have given it too much Spiritual Spring Water, so it had gained intelligence.

”Yuanyuan, when we leave, do we just leave the donkey and sheep to the Zhao sisters?”

Su Yuanyuan paused, ”Leave the donkey to Xiao Li, but I can’t part with the sheep.”

”Then we’ll find a way to take it.” Honestly, they might not be able to take it.

Su Yuanyuan thought for a while, ”Actually, I can pack it up and take it. Once it’s inside, it just sleeps.”

Tan Shaoting nodded, ”Then let’s take it. This sheep is the one you brought from home, right?”

”Yeah, I can’t bear to part with it. You don’t know, back then, I just wanted to try. Didn’t expect it to actually come.

There was actually a big ram too. When I sold it, I cried for a long time.

Back then, they helped me with work. I talked to them every day when I got back.

The big ram was in tears when it was sold. I really couldn’t bear it.” After Su Yuanyuan finished, she shed tears again.

Tan Shaoting quickly wiped her tears and hugged her shoulder, ”Let’s just keep this sheep, don’t be sad.”

”Mm, since then, I’ve decided not to let any animal gain intelligence, it’s too painful.”

”Alright, this sheep truly is amazing. It was the one who went to call the Zhao sisters.

When you were giving birth, it was waiting at the door, and it only left after being told you had delivered.”

”Yeah, it’s kept me company for so many years. If I leave, I’ll definitely bring it with me. When it passes away from old age, I want to find a place to bury it.”

”Sure, it’s all up to you.”

The second child finished eating, and then fed the first. The little girl was the first to eat her fill and was already asleep.

In the afternoon, Tan Shaoting slaughtered all the chickens, ducks, and geese at home. Actually, it was hard to kill the big goose too, but the temperature here was too cold, they feared it might freeze to death.

In the evening, under the direction of Su Yuanyuan, Tan Shaoting stewed delicious chicken.

”Yuanyuan, I still think roast chicken is tastier.”

”I still have old stock here, wait till you have time, we can make some soy-braised chicken.

I’ve kept old stock for the ducks too. As for the big goose, let’s just stew it.”

On the next day, the Zhao brothers arrived at eight o’clock. Because there were small children at home, this year’s pig slaughtering was at the Li family. They didn’t want to scare the little ones.

With three pigs, it took the five of them more than half a day to finish.

The Li family also decided to slaughter pigs the next day, so the Zhao brothers had to come over again the next day.

Tan Shaoting gave each family ten pounds of lard and five pounds of pork. The Li family also received some meat, but Li Hongxiang only took a small piece, to be used for dinner; they were also slaughtering pigs the next day, so they wouldn’t lack meat. Ten pounds of lard and a piece of meat were also sent to Zhao Yanping.

Tan Shaoting put aside the meat, while the organs were left outside, planning to braise all of it.

”Yuanyuan, I’ll send some to Feng Baoshan and Ma Changshun tonight.” They would be leaving soon, and the final connections still needed maintaining, as they had really taken good care of them.

Of course, Su Yuanyuan had no objections.

Tan Shaoting first went to Feng Baoshan’s house, giving five pounds of lard and a two-pound piece of meat.

”Xiao Tan, thank you.” Feng Baoshan did not refuse.

”I should be thanking Director Feng for taking such good care of my wife.”

After exchanging a few polite words, Tan Shaoting rode over to Ma Changshun’s house.

At this hour, the Ma family had already closed their doors, just done with their busy day. They had planted a lot of cotton this year, which was very labor-intensive.

Ma Changshun wanted to invite Tan Shaoting inside but was refused.

”Group Leader Ma, I can’t come in, Yuanyuan is home alone with the kids.”

”Congratulations to you. I haven’t had time to visit during the harvest season.”

”No need to be so formal, Group Leader Ma, everything is fine. Today our family slaughtered pigs, and I came to bring you some meat. The family can’t be left unattended for long; I’ll head back now.”

Ma Dongmei, upon hearing Tan Shaoting’s voice, hurried out. This annoyed Ma Changshun to the point he wanted to slap her. Really so shameless, already twenty-two, and still not married.

Ma Dongmei infatuatedly stared at Tan Shaoting from the side. She had developed a mental fixation, thinking that Tan Shaoting ought to marry her, becoming obsessed.

Tan Shaoting deeply hated this feeling, so after a word with Ma Changshun, he left.

Ma Changshun decided he must educate his eldest daughter today; this just wouldn’t do. She was almost twenty-three and still not married, this couldn’t go on.

So he carried the meat back indoors and sat down to wait for Ma Dongmei to enter.

But he underestimated his daughter’s obsession with Tan Shaoting. It took about five or six minutes before he saw her come in, by which point Ma Changshun’s temper had already flared up intensely.

He immediately picked up a stick by his side and gave Ma Dongmei a thrashing.

Ma Dongmei was still caught in her daze, but the beating snapped her back to reality. In pain, she ran around the house.

But no matter how she ran, or how much she pleaded, Ma Changshun didn’t stop. The rest of the family came out but no one dared to intervene.

Seeing the situation, Ma Dongmei realized there was no getting away, so she seized a chance and ran straight outside.

Ma Changshun, in his anger, chased her outside and bolted the door shut.

Ma Dongmei wasn’t wearing a coat, and couldn’t stand the cold outside, but she didn’t dare knock on the door. So she knocked on Zheng Lanying’s door instead.

”Lan Ying, I’m sleeping at your place tonight.”

Zheng Lanying was very annoyed by Ma Dongmei but had no other choice and let her inside.

”Dongmei, what happened?”

”Got beaten by my dad.”

”For what reason?”

”Tan Shaoting just came to bring us meat, I followed him out to have a look, and when I got back my dad beat me.”

Zheng Lanying understood, Ma Dongmei really was quite the odd one, you’d think at her age she’d be choosier. It’d make sense if she were attractive.

But she really wasn’t, truly apologetic in appearance; it was baffling where she got the nerve! If it were her being a man, she’d rather stay single forever than be with someone like Ma Dongmei.
