Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 172: 172 arrived

The next day, the two went out for breakfast. Su Yuanyuan took Tan Shaoting to her favorite breakfast place, but it had already become state-run.

There were no delicious fried dough sticks or tofu pudding, only pancakes and lumpy soup.

However, the two didn’t leave and still had breakfast there.

”I’m going to visit my friend’s house. What about you? Want to come with me?”

”Hmm, sure. I’ll go with you to see.”

Su Yuanyuan found a place near Old Yang’s house where no one was around and took out a cart, loaded with ten bags of corn, ten bags of wheat, and a pig.

It was covered with a tarp, and they reached Old Yang’s doorstep in just five minutes.

The door was opened by Old Yang. Seeing this girl, Old Yang was momentarily stunned. ”Su Yuanyuan?”

”Uncle Yang, it’s me.”

”Hurry on in.”

Seeing her pulling a cart, Old Yang was glad there was no one on the street at this time, otherwise it could be troublesome.

Once inside the courtyard, Old Yang helped push the cart into the house.

”Uncle Yang, this is the grain I brought back for you.”

”Where did you get this? It’s too dangerous.”

”No need to ask about that, just keep it.”

Old Yang lifted the tarp for a look. Goodness, the fat pig on top made Old Yang grin from ear to ear.

Tan Shaoting gave a light cough on the side.

”Uncle Yang, this is my friend Tan Shaoting, also my neighbor back in Jiangbei. We plan to plant some cotton. Passing through here, I came to see you, and then I’ll go back to see our village chief and them.”

Tan Shaoting also called out, ”Uncle Yang.” Old Yang smiled and nodded.

”Girl, you are thoughtful. Uncle Yang thanks you.

But I can’t take these for nothing. I actually know that side is also suffering quite a bit from disasters.”

Su Yuanyuan didn’t refuse.

”What are these grains?” Old Yang asked as he opened the bags.

Seeing the grain on the cart, Old Yang was all the happier.

”Girl, wait here.”

Old Yang went inside and came out with nine hundred dollars.

”Girl, no matter how much, this is for you. I am giving it to you according to our black market prices here.

Actually, I’m getting the better deal here. Things like this can’t be bought right now.”

Su Yuanyuan wasn’t modest and accepted the money.

The two of them helped Old Yang hide the grain and meat. Only then did they sit down to chat.

Each of them got a bowl of brown sugar water. This is high-standard guest treatment.

”Girl, how are things in Jiangbei? Even without you telling me, seeing how you look, I know you’re doing quite well.”

Su Yuanyuan nodded, ”It’s quite good indeed. The plot of land I took over had a big water pit, so even though it was dry the first year, I watered it every day, and it turned out to be a good harvest.

This year, knowing there would be another drought, I directly planted sweet potatoes and potatoes. These are drought-resistant and got the job done.”

Old Yang nodded, smiling. He knew that while the girl made it sound simple, actually doing it meant no idle moments.

”Girl, you’re really something. I always knew no matter where you are, you can make a living.”

Su Yuanyuan smiled and nodded. ”This year, the five siblings from our village also completed their tasks and even received pay.”

”Those five kids found me, saying you told them before you left that if they had trouble in the county, they should come to me.”

”Yes, they are just too impulsive. Our place here is much better than over there.”

”You two stay here for a meal. Your Aunt went to work and will be back at noon.”

Old Yang saw Tan Shaoting look at his watch and immediately asked them to stay for a meal.

”Uncle Yang, I won’t stay. I need to go back to the village to see things, and I want to go up the mountain. If there are wild boars, I’ll find a way to bring them to you.”

”That would be great. I will be waiting for you. How about this, let me find you a vehicle?”

Su Yuanyuan quickly waved her hand, ”No need. We have a cart here. Don’t worry. The two of us have plenty of strength.”

”Since you two aren’t staying for a meal, I won’t keep you. I have some snacks at home. I’ll give you some.”

Su Yuanyuan shook her head with a smile, ”I already have snacks in my bag, Uncle Yang. You don’t have to worry about me.”

”Alright then, I won’t keep you. Girl, when are you leaving?”

”I’ll leave once I’m back from the village.”

”Then be sure to come to my place before you leave. I found some good things for you. All things you like.”

”Okay, I’ll definitely come by before I leave.”

The two of them pulled the cart out. Only when they were out of town did they put away the cart.

It would probably be nighttime when they reached their village.

”Are you in a hurry?”

Su Yuanyuan shook her head with a smile, ”I need to deliver the food to them. How can I enter the village in daylight? No rush.”

The two chatted as they walked, ”We’ll head to your mountain tomorrow. Didn’t you say there are wild boars?”

Su Yuanyuan nodded, ”Yes, there are, and there are wolves too. I wonder if we’ll spot any.”

By noon, the two found a sheltered spot to sit down, rest, and eat.

”What do you want to eat?”

”Braised pork, rice.”

Su Yuanyuan took out three servings of braised pork rice. She had one, and the remaining two were for Tan Shaoting.

After eating, they each had a glass of milk.

”Next year, I want to raise chickens. But with people unable to eat enough, I’m afraid someone might have bad intentions.”

”Wait until the drought is over. We could still have donkeys and sheep.”

”But it’s really inconvenient to eat eggs. Never mind, the eggs I have here are enough for us for a year.”

When the two reached the township, it was already a little past four in the afternoon. They had stopped several times to rest along the way, showing they were not in a hurry at all.

Once in the township, they went into the supply and marketing cooperative before it closed, but found nothing to buy; they didn’t have any vouchers.

Arriving in the village, it was completely silent and pitch dark.

Su Yuanyuan took out the cart, loaded it with two bags of corn, two bags of sorghum, and two bags of wheat. She didn’t include pork but handed over two portions of cooking oil, each ten catties. In addition, there were twenty winter melons, two bags of sweet potatoes, and two bags of potatoes.

These things were indeed quite a lot. Su Yuanyuan meant that opportunities to come back would be few, so this was considered repaying a favor.

Tan Shaoting followed behind Su Yuanyuan, pulling the cart.

She went straight to Hu Chunhua’s house.

She knocked on the door and waited for a while before hearing someone respond, ”Who is it? What business do you have this late?”

”Uncle, it’s Su Yuanyuan.”

Yang Minggang was momentarily stunned. Outside, Su Yuanyuan heard footsteps rushing about in the courtyard.

Upon hearing Su Yuanyuan’s voice, Yang Minggang immediately ran to open the door.

”Girl, you’re back? Hurry inside.”

”Uncle, give me a hand.”

The cart was placed directly at the entrance of the main room.

Hu Chunhua heard the commotion and got dressed to come out.
