Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 162: Route 162

There are still over a hundred winter melons, and Su Yuanyuan plans to sell them all. The fifty stored in the cellar are enough.

Approaching J City, ”Yuanyuan, are we getting off here?”

”Of course. We’ll get off right here.”

Su Yuanyuan is quite confident, believing she’ll have a significant harvest in J City.

So, the two began to tidy up. There weren’t many things outside.

Getting off the train, it was late at night, and it was too cold. They still didn’t go to a hotel, for safety reasons.

Su Yuanyuan held a hot water bottle and had heat packs on her feet, making it not too uncomfortable.

At this time, the waiting hall only had a few people scattered around.

When daylight broke, the two went outside for a walk and saw a breakfast vendor. There were even fried dough sticks here, indicating life was pretty good.

Spent half a pound of food tickets and one yuan to buy ten fried dough sticks. Each had a bowl of tofu pudding, which tasted really good.

After finishing the warm breakfast, they listened to the conversations going on around them.

They didn’t dare to ask questions and just wandered around the city.

Honestly, life here seemed pretty good.

Perhaps because it was early, they didn’t discover any private transactions.

But they did learn about several factories in the city. There were enamel factories, aluminum lunch box factories, and steel factories. Otherwise, how could life be so prosperous?

”If things are good here, let’s stay a few more days and trade for some enamel products.”

”Alright, I’ll follow your lead.”

The two wandered to the steel factory, where there was quite a bit of dust around. Su Yuanyuan approached the gatekeeper to learn they get off work at six in the evening, thinking about selling fish here.

”Our fish hasn’t frozen yet, right? Let’s come back tomorrow night then.”

Afterwards, the two went to the enamel factory, planning to sell meat there.

On the train, they’d already sliced two pigs into strips for easier sale, with each strip weighing two pounds for five yuan each, which was fast and convenient.

They also got off work at six in the evening here.

Now they had some time to go around the building but didn’t buy anything due to the lack of tickets.

Su Yuanyuan knew that the high prices didn’t deter buyers here because tickets weren’t required.

They ate lunch at a restaurant, unexpectedly enjoying white rice. That was quite surprising.

However, they just ordered three flatbreads and each had a bowl of shredded radish vermicelli soup.

The taste was really good, further proving how good life was here.

In the afternoon, they went to the suburbs, found a secluded place, and brought out all the big fish.

If they freeze, they can sell them at the steel factory gate tomorrow night.

They stayed somewhere nearby, lit a fire, and sat by the fire. This was more comfortable than the waiting hall.

”Shall we roast some meat? I still have quite a bit of beef here.”

Whatever Su Yuanyuan thought of, she did. She pulled out a frying pan from the space and added butter and sliced beef.

The aroma immediately filled the air. Pepper powder, chili powder, cumin powder, and salt sprinkled on top.

Tan Shaoting watched from the side, the enticing aroma making his mouth water.

Both thoroughly enjoyed their meal, eating until they were full.

”This tastes way better than anything else,”

Su Yuanyuan nodded. Actually, pork could also be cooked this way.

By five o’clock, the fish had frozen. In temperatures below minus forty degrees, they froze within an hour.

They packed everything up before returning to the city. It was already dark.

On the way, they discussed heading to the enamel factory first because of Su Yuanyuan’s fascination with enamel products.

They arrived at the enamel factory, each carrying a basket filled with meat, for safety reasons.

They waited at the gate until the end-of-shift bell rang, and ten minutes later, the gate opened.

Su Yuanyuan propped up a stick with a strip of meat. ”Five yuan for two pounds.”

Though it was dark, and people couldn’t see what was hanging on the stick, the five yuan for two pounds line caught many people’s attention.

Upon approaching, they realized it was pork.

”This strip is two pounds, five yuan each, only one hundred strips.”

The first person approached and directly handed over twenty yuan, ”Give me four strips.”

Su Yuanyuan cheerfully handed over four strips to the person.

With the first buyer, many others followed suit with money in hand.

While handing out meat, Su Yuanyuan chatted with the people.

”Comrade, I’m looking to buy some enamelware, whether tea trays, enamel basins, or tea mugs. Since you work at the enamel factory, you should be able to get them, right? Can someone help me purchase some?”

”You’ve got an eye, little girl. The enamel factory is indeed the safest.

Before New Year’s, we had a batch of over a hundred lidded enamel basins returned. If you’re interested, I can ask for you.”

”Comrade, these returns weren’t due to quality issues, were they?”

”In a way, just a typo in the baked-on lettering.”

Su Yuanyuan felt relieved; such a minor defect wasn’t a quality issue to her.

”Comrade, can you wait a moment?”

At this time, Tan Shaoting came over, handling the transaction of money and meat.

Su Yuanyuan went aside with that comrade.

”Comrade, how much is this batch of enamel basins per unit?”

”These are sixteen-inch yellow enamel basins. Our price is two yuan three each, but due to some flaws, they’re at least two yuan.”

Su Yuanyuan nodded, having bought twelve-inch enamel basins at two yuan five each at the market. These sixteen-inch ones were significantly bigger.

”But if you want this batch, I can’t help without some compensation.”

Su Yuanyuan immediately nodded, ”I understand. How about this, I’ll pay two yuan three per unit. I’m not concerned about your procurement methods; even if you get them for free, I will still give you two yuan three each.

I also want the tea trays and tea mugs. Any quantity up to a hundred each is fine by me.”

”I can’t get a hundred, but thirty of each should be no problem.

Tea trays are one yuan six, tea mugs are just eight cents each.”

Su Yuanyuan considered, still cheaper than the market, so she agreed.

”Comrade, when can we get them? We’re on a tight schedule.”

”Just come find me tomorrow during the day. I’m Huang Mingjie from the Supply and Marketing Section.”

”Alright, we’ll come by at nine in the morning.”

Now Su Yuanyuan was satisfied, having acquired the enamel products she liked for personal use and sale.

Meanwhile, Tan Shaoting had sold all the meat. The unsatisfied ones weren’t too happy, especially since some buyers grabbed up to ten strips each.

The two hurriedly left with their baskets. They spent the night at the train station again, with Tan Shaoting using his luggage to make a bed for Su Yuanyuan, so she could lie down more comfortably.
