Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 166: 166 shipments

Su Yuanyuan felt quite embarrassed. She proactively added some sweet potatoes.

”We have a cellar at home, just give me the sweet potatoes, thank you, little girl.”

”Comrade, do you have any goldfish?” This became an obsession for Su Yuanyuan.

”I do, wait a moment, I’ll bring them out for you to check the quality.”

Su Yuanyuan noticed that the quality they brought out was better than usual.

”Comrade, what’s the price for these goldfish?”

”Ten yuan per tael.”

”Alright, how much can you give me?”

”How much is your wheat per jin?”

”Thirty-five cents.”

”Then let’s trade, however much wheat you give me, I’ll exchange for goldfish.”

”Can you take four thousand jin?”

”Sure, no problem, four thousand jin will be fourteen hundred yuan, which is one hundred forty taels.”

”Do you exchange pork at two yuan fifty per jin?”

”I want pork fat.”

”Two yuan fifty per jin, I’ll give you a hundred jin of lard.” Lard has the highest oil yield.

”That works. Deliver it to me tonight, I’ll have it ready for you.”

Su Yuanyuan nodded expressionlessly, but she was thrilled inside.

”Comrade, around ten tonight?”

”Okay.” Xing Min was a straightforward person.

Tan Shaoting didn’t say a word throughout. But after coming out, he saw the little girl who was calm earlier, now grinning.

”Do you really like it that much?”

”Yes, we have too much grain, and we can’t possibly eat it all ourselves. It’s safer to trade it for goods, maybe in a few decades, we’ll become rich.

Also, when we get back, I’ll split everything with you fifty-fifty.”

”It’s all yours, I don’t want it.”

”That won’t do, fair dealing even among brothers, what’s meant for you should be given to you.”

Tan Shaoting just smiled, he really wasn’t interested in these things, he’d prefer money. In his past life, he died early due to lack of money for treatment.

Now it’s almost eleven o’clock, the two went to a restaurant, and today’s menu was to Su Yuanyuan’s liking. Dried cabbage with vermicelli pancake.

After eating one, still feeling unsatisfied, bought ten more before leaving the restaurant.

The two went directly to Chen Ximei’s house.

Saw a middle-aged man sitting in the main hall, nodded to each other, and sat down.

”This is the quality of goldfish, take a look.” Chen Ximei took out a goldfish from her pocket and handed it to Su Yuanyuan.

The quality here was surely not as good as those from the family they visited in the morning. But it was much better than what Su Yuanyuan had collected.

”What’s the price for this goldfish?”

”Eight yuan per tael.”

”Alright.” It’s definitely more expensive than the bank, people as wealthy as them probably wouldn’t go to a bank unless they had no other choice.

”Comrade, how much can you take?”

Su Yuanyuan was a bit surprised, ”I can take up to five hundred taels.”

This time it was the middle-aged man and Chen Ximei who were shocked.

Five hundred taels is four thousand yuan, that’s quite a big amount.

”Comrade, I have five hundred taels, but I’d like to exchange for some grain.” The middle-aged man spoke up himself. He feared Chen Ximei might not explain clearly.

”That’s possible, what kind of grain?”

”Two thousand jin of wheat, two hundred jin of pork, and a thousand jin of corn.”

”And I’ll give you money for the rest?”

The middle-aged man nodded. This was certainly the best option.

”Where shall we make the transaction?”

”Comrade, I’ll take you to familiarize the location.”

Su Yuanyuan naturally had no objections.

But Chen Ximei was a bit anxious. She hadn’t spoken yet.

Of course, Su Yuanyuan noticed and said with a smile to Chen Ximei, ”Sister, I’ll give you the same quantity of goods as last time, just schedule it for tonight, you wait.”

This reassured Chen Ximei. With an excited smile on her face, she hadn’t even repaid her borrowed money yet, and now she could earn another round.

The two followed him to the door of a house, ”You two, come inside and sit.”

The door didn’t look noticeable, but once inside the main hall, one could tell what understated wealth was.

This fellow was also capable, noticing Su Yuanyuan’s interest in his household.

”Comrade, I can tell you’re capable, so how about this, I’ll give you all the furniture here for a thousand jin of corn.

The calligraphy on the walls, the books on the shelves, and the ornaments, all for you. Just give me a thousand jin of corn.”

Of course, Su Yuanyuan had no objections, so she nodded.

In the future, even a hundred thousand jin of corn won’t be able to exchange for these.

”Comrade, besides money, do you need anything else? I have one hundred eggs, one hundred duck eggs, fifty goose eggs, and five hundred jin of beef on hand.”

”You have beef too?”

Su Yuanyuan nodded, ”Yes, and the cattle aren’t old cows.”

”What’s the price for the beef?”

”Three yuan fifty per jin.”

”Give me two hundred jin. How about the eggs?”

”Chicken and duck eggs are fifteen cents each, goose eggs thirty cents.”

”I’ll take them all.” Having lived a life of affluence, didn’t expect in the later years, after the wife passed and the children left, he’d be left alone, why not indulge a bit? Besides, not everything is given to her, he still had plenty of things to trade with others.

”Alright then. Five hundred taels are four thousand, the grains before are fourteen fifty, two hundred jin of beef is seven hundred, chicken, duck, and goose eggs altogether are forty-five yuan, add it up, we’re five yuan short of twenty-two hundred, I’ll give you another thousand jin of corn, how about that?”

”Yes.”

”Alright, we’ll come over between one and two tonight, two thousand jin of corn, two thousand jin of wheat, two hundred jin of pork, two hundred jin of beef, I’ll add ten Winter Melons, along with chicken, duck, and goose eggs. Put together it’s exactly twenty-two hundred yuan.”

After the negotiation, the two went out again. They’d be quite busy tonight.

But this was good, they could leave here by tomorrow, too conspicuous.

The two wandered around outside, bought some pastries at a department store, they all looked delicious, and it was a local specialty.

At nine, they left the railway station. Upon arriving at Xing Min’s doorstep, they released two thousand jin of wheat. Along with meat, grain exchanged for books and paintings, only then did they knock on the door.

Xing Min hadn’t slept, just waiting.

Hearing the knock, she tucked her grandson into bed, then went to open the door.

”Comrade, how about we weigh while helping you move them into the cellar.” Su Yuanyuan thought since they were out-of-towners, no suspicion should arise.

”Thank you, both of you.”

Everything was stored in the cellar, Su Yuanyuan took down the basket from the front of the bike. ”Comrade, here are twenty salted duck eggs as a token of appreciation, thank you.”

Xing Min didn’t stand on ceremony. Her biggest worry was gone now, she knew eventually there’d come a time when it wouldn’t be protected, now even if they dug three feet it wouldn’t be found, better to quickly trade the grain and save the money for her grandson.
