THE GOD EATER

Sword Maestro shook his head as he said, ”The best I can do for you is to lend you some divine crystals in 24 hours. In the meantime, I have nothing to help you with.”

But, then he changed his tune, saying, ”You know what, you should be the one lending me divine crystals. It seems you’re out of the running and won’t be able to compete with the others for this item. So you should give me your divine crystals to increase my chances. At least, that way, one of us will succeed in getting what they want.”

Heavenly Eye’s reply was to say, ”Fuck you.”

She didn’t even say no. Clearly, she didn’t appreciate the way he had turned thing around on her. This made Sword Maestro chuckle in amusement.

This thing happening between Heavenly Eye and Sword Maestro wasn’t a rare event. Heavenly Eye was also soliciting support in the form of divine crystals from Immobile Mountain and Green Fire. But just like Carefree Immortal, they both refused to help her.

Tepid Scholar was also secretly asking for help. His first target was Martial Will.

He said, ”If you really want to spite Black Chain, you should lend me your divine crystals. With your help, I’ll definitely be able to get the Death Supreme Metac.”

In response, Martial Will said, ”First of all, I don’t want anyone to get the Death Supreme Metac, not just Black Chain. If I can’t get it and use it, then I will make sure that none of you have an easy time getting it.”

”Secondly, I will need the divine crystals soon. So you can forget about getting my divine crystals.”

As for Black Chain, he didn’t send messages asking anyone to help him with divine crystals. Knowing his reputation, he knew that it was easier for everyone to gang up on him than to help him.

Martial Will’s behavior is an example of what someone is willing to do to spite him. The fact that the rest of the Dao Lords haven’t followed suit is something he has to be thankful for. So he can’t be ungrateful and ask them to help him.

As it turned out, he didn’t need people to gang up on him. But this was not for a good thing. In fact, he wasn’t happy about it at all.

After some back and forth in the bidding war, he managed to hold on longer than Martial Will. The Dao Lord of the Martial Body Sect couldn’t compete with him in terms of divine crystals and had to give up. But the other two were not so easy to defeat.

Despite being supposedly weaker than Black Chain and Tepid Scholar, it didn’t surprise anyone that Heavenly Eye was able to compete with them in terms of divine crystals.

It didn’t surprise them because she was good at finding things, so it was normal that she had found and hoarded a lot of divine crystals compared to her competitors. In fact, no one was sure she was really weaker than Tepid Scholar now that she had exposed two more pathways.

Black Chain couldn’t keep up and had to drop out of the race. Therefore, the competition for the Death Supreme Metac became a war between Heavenly Eye and Tepid Scholar.

At the end of the day, Tepid Scholar won the competition with 5,000 years of divine crystals and 20 years of protection. His face was full of smiles after winning. As for Black Chain

During the bidding war, the quantity of divine crystals increased, but the duration of protection stagnated. Sometimes, the duration of protection was reduced.

The Dao Lords tactically reduced the amount of time they would have to protect Loki because this amount of time also determined how long they would have to wait before they could get what they paid for.

They expected to receive fierce resistance from Loki about their tactics. But for some reason, Loki didn’t complain and allowed it to happen even though he claimed earlier that the protection was the most important resource he wanted from them.

With the first bidding war over, Loki smiled and said, ”Thank you for the offer. Please make it official by swearing not to tamper with the divine crystal and doing your best to protect me.”

Tepid Scholar nodded in acceptance as he said, ”I swear on my Dao not to tamper with the divine crystal that I will give Ragnarok, and I swear on my Dao to do my best to protect him for a period of 20 years in exchange for the Death Supreme Metac.”

Then Loki clapped and said, ”Now that has been done, please send down the 5,000 years of divine crystals. That way, we can all be sure that you’re not trading in bad faith.”

This was a great thing to ask, but Tepid Scholar didn’t mind letting go of the 5,000 years of divine crystals because Loki had sworn on his Dao Heart, and that was the most serious kind of personal oath someone could make.

If a Dao Lord swore on one of their pathways, they would lose that pathway if they broke the oath. Not only would the Supreme Metac of that pathway collapse within them, but they would never be able to recover that pathway because every Supreme Metac of the same type will never work with them.

So to swear on a pathway and break that oath is to be alienated from that pathway forever. The same will happen if the Dao Lord swears on all of their pathways and breaks the oath.

This is why swearing on their Dao is greater than swearing on a single Dao or pathway. A Dao Lord that breaks an oath that they swore on their Dao will lose all of their pathways and will never be able to become a Dao Lord.

But at the top of it all is swearing on one’s Dao Heart. If one were to break this kind of oath, they would lose their minds and become a shell of themselves.
