THE GOD EATER

Actually, the possible loss of this single avatar is too much of a risk to him already. If he had his way, he wouldn’t create the avatar at all to join the battle. He would just sit back in the sky and watch the others fight.

But he took that risk of losing one avatar so that he could stop Black Chains from getting the Luck Supreme Metac and the Devouring Supreme Metac. He is not even sure if Black Chains will be able to assimilate the two pathways since Dao Lords have a limit on how many pathways they can use.

Dao Lords can’t assimilate Supreme Metacs indefinitely. Every Dao Lord has a limit that is dependent on their potential, so he can’t tell what Black Chains’ limit is. Because of this, he didn’t dare to assume that Black Chains would not be able to assimilate the two Supreme Metacs.

He didn’t dare to risk Black Chains gaining two Supreme Metacs, so he decided to risk losing one Supreme Metac. But even if he failed to stop Black Chains at the end of the day, he would be content with making the Dao Lord of the Four Directions Sect lose a lot of lifespan.

As for risking the loss of one more avatar to save Sword Mastero, this is not a risk he is willing to make. If anything, Sword Mastero’s current predicament is a warning to him of what he could lose.

In order not to follow in Sword Mastero’s footsteps, he had to put his foot down and insist on not helping. It can’t be said that he was happy with this decision. But at least, he is satisfied with the decision.

For the meantime, he had no regrets about his decision. But the same couldn’t be said about Sword Mastero.

Sword Mastero felt his heart sink when Tepid Scholar let him down. He tried to change Tepid Scholar’s mind by saying, ”Are you scared that you will be suppressed too? I don’t think it should happen with you too. Something this unreasonable should only be able to target one person and one pathway at a time.”

But Tepid Scholar shook his head and said, ”I’m sorry. But I can’t help you.”

When Sword Mastero heard this, he realized that Tepid Scholar, his mentor, had made up his mind. He knew then that nothing he could say, be it threats or supplications, could change Tepid Scholar’s mind.

Since the situation had come to this point, he decided to do something he didn’t think he would ever do. Even thinking about it made his mind churn with disgust and shame.

He didn’t want to do it at all. But he also didn’t want to lose his Grand Dao, so he said to Black Chains, ”Please, help me.”

Black Chains began to laugh when he heard this. As he laughed, he said, ”Can you imagine it? Do my ears deceive me? Or is this a day dream come true?”

Sword Mastero gritted his teeth, ”I need your help, and I am willing to pay for it.”

This only made Black Chains laugh harder. The Dao Lord of the Four Directions Sect also said, ”It is really happening. The prodigal son has returned, and he is here to ask his father for help.”

By this time, Sword Mastero was becoming impatient. So his voice was a little strained as he said, ”Will you help me or not?”

Black Chains replied, saying, ”I might help you. But you have to call me a respectful title first.”

”And I don’t want something like big brother. I want something I deserve, but was stolen from me.”

Sword Mastero’s face immediately darkened, and he said, ”That’s a little excessive.”

But Black Chains shrugged and said, ”If you say so. I’m not going to force you. But I have to remind you that you are about to lose a Grand Dao.”

”If your pride is greater than your power, then abide by your pride. I hope your pride will be able to mollify the pain of losing a pathway.”

After Black Chains said this, he glanced at Tepid Scholar and said, ”Trust me when I say that the kind of pain you will experience when you lose a pathway is something you will never forget. It will stick with you forever, so you better be sure that your pride can remain with you forever and remain strong to alleviate the pain.”

This scornful reminder was actually helpful to Sword Mastero. At least, it reminded him of what was truly important.

So even though he was being asked to willingly belittle himself, he still said to Black Chains, ”Please, help me, master.”

His words made Black Chains nod in satisfaction and say, ”It is good that you recognize who your true master is.”

Then he sneered and glanced at Tepid Scholar as he said, ”It is okay to run off with prostitutes once in a while. I too have explored the world in my youth. But you have to know that your family is the only one who you can really count on.”

Sword Way wanted to sneer and say, ”If you are so great as a master, what happened to the original owners of the Death Pathway and the Money Pathway, who used to be your disciples?”

But he didn’t want to alienate his only option for help by making Black Chains angry with him. So he only nodded in understanding as if Black Chains was speaking the truth.

But Martial Will had no such concerns. The Dao Lord of the Martial Body Sect sneered and said, ”If you’re such a good master, why did you eat your disciples before? And didn’t you try to eat Sword Mastero?”

He snorted and said, ”I hate that spineless scholar as much as anyone, but even I know that without his help, Sword Mastero would have become another one of your disciples that you enslaved and devoured without leaving any bones behind. How does that make you the reliable one?”
