THE GOD EATER

As divine beings, they’ve heard this kind of lamentation from worlds many times, so they weren’t surprised to hear the will of the world say them this time. They continued to examine the world for any anomaly, but saw nothing out of place.

Since there was nothing out of the ordinary going on, the five divine beings allowed the crack to heal. Then they went back to doing their jobs of making sure that nothing would go wrong with the Heavenly Battlefield.

Monarch Astra Body, the divine being from the Four Directions Sect, smiled and said to Monarch Talisman Paper, “It seems you’ve lost your bet. More than half of them have died, so you can never win this bet.”

Monarch Talisman Paper snorted in displeasure, but he didn’t deny the statement. He had truly lost, and in one day, too. Even if he wanted to wiggle his way out of this, there was just no way he could defend the loss of more than half of the soldiers.

Instead, he said to Monarch Astra Body, “Don’t be so glad just yet. It is not certain that every one of them will die and you will win your bet.”

“They have already killed a world guardian, which means that they have the power to threaten this world. If they can kill one world guardian, then it is unlikely that all of them will die.”

But Monarch Astra Body continued to smile as she said, “One world guardian out of four died, while seven rank 5 cultivators died out of 15. I think that is a worthy trade.”

“That is a rate of 25% world guardians for 46.67% rank 5 cultivators. At that rate, every one of them will be dead by the time all of the world guardians are dead.”

“But don’t take my words for it. Time will tell if I am right or wrong.”

She was clearly optimistic about her chances, but Monarch Bull Strength wasn’t optimistic at all. Monarch Bull Strength had bet that at least one soldier would survive from each sect. But things weren’t looking good for her.

The situation wasn’t promising because all three rank 5 cultivators from the Martial Body Sect are dead, and there are fewer than ten rank 4 cultivators from the Martial Body Sect still alive. With this kind of result, it is only a matter of time before the Martial Body Sect is wiped out completely.

This made her grit her teeth in anger and say, “How can they be this useless? Not only are they embarrassing my sect, but they are also making me lose a bet. This is simply unacceptable.”

In response, Monarch Astra Body chuckled and said, “You can’t really blame them for their failure. I’m sure that they are strong, but what can they do if they are heavily outnumbered?”

Monarch Talisman Paper nodded in agreement and said, “The problem with them is that they don’t have good survivability and escape capabilities. Once they are surrounded by every inhabitant of the world, what can they do?”

But Monarch Bull Strength shook her head and said, “Their performance is still bad. The fact that the entire world is against them doesn’t excuse them from such a poor performance when the weaklings from the Nexus of Truth are surviving in overwhelming numbers.”

Monarch Astra Body laughed when she heard this. She didn’t say anything, but her laughter spoke volumes.

The divine being from the Nexus of Truth Sect didn’t say anything about this claim that the people of the Nexus Sect are weak. The shadowy figure of the divine being remained motionless and silent.

Monarch Thousand Cuts of the Sword Way Sect said with some expectations, “If they can kill one world guardian, it means that they can kill another one. As long as they kill one more wield guardian for me, I will be satisfied.”

To which Monarch Talisman Paper said in disdain, “Of course, you have to be satisfied with that because it will make you win the bet. If you don’t become satisfied, I don’t know what else you could possibly want more.”

Monarch Thousand Cuts didn’t defend himself. He only chuckled, but even this chuckle of self-satisfaction was grating for Monarch Talisman Paper to hear.

Monarch Talisman Paper felt cheated that Monarch Thousand Cuts had only bet that two world guardians would be killed. Of course, when that bet was made, no one thought that there was anything wrong with it.

No one thought that the bet was too easy because no one expected the soldiers to be able to kill even one world guardian. But it seems that they had underestimated the rank 5 cultivators of their world.

While the rank 6 cultivators were discussing with each other, Loki was sitting on the ground like an innocent passerby. There was no shell, armor, or second skin around him, so he appeared in his true form.

He had deactivated his Life Ability so that it wouldn’t be discovered. Then he sat down like he had done nothing wrong.

As he was sitting, he heard a loud sound like thunder. But the sound was also heavier than the sound of thunder because the world had shaken when it occurred.

To be exact, the sound felt like the beating of a bass drum. But it also possessed a high-pitched component similar to a whip moving faster than the speed of sound. Finally, it came from the sky, so it sounded like thunder.

The sound made him look at the sky, so he saw that the sky had cracked and split open. Then he saw the eyes of giants looking through the massive crack in the sky.

The whole experience made him feel like an ant within a bottle with humans looking down at him through the open end of the bottle. He felt small and insignificant.

This feeling made him covet the power of divine beings even more. He also felt giddy and drunk, but that wasn’t caused by his envy of the power of divine beings.
