Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1916: Chapter 1909: The Girl I Like

”I know,” An Hui said, ”Sister, don’t worry. I will pay off that debt sooner or later! But,

I don’t want to be a driver all my life! I also have my own dreams.”

”Then tell me, how did your dream come to be? In other words, what inspired your dream?” An Hao asked.

An Hui suddenly blushed, feeling very embarrassed as he said, ”It’s a girl. She’s the one who gave me the idea of joining the military! I don’t want to waste my life anymore. I want to be a good man, someone the girl I like can admire!”

The reason sounded entirely convincing, making it hard not to believe.

”But... joining the military requires a clean record! As for you...” An Hao left her sentence unfinished, but the meaning was clear.

An Hui has too many marks on his record, and people with unclean records can’t join the military.

The light in An Hui’s eyes dimmed instantly, and he mumbled to himself, ”It’s my fault. This situation is my own doing. I wasted so much of my youth, and now I think of joining the military. It seems a bit late...”

”Exactly! There’s also an age limit for joining the military unless you apply to a military academy...” An Ping said.

”I understand.” An Hui nodded and didn’t say anything more.

”An Hao, you’ve all seen An Hui’s recent behavior, it’s pretty good. As his sister, if you can help him, please do.” An Shuchao spoke up.

In the past, when An Hui wasn’t doing any good, not helping was understandable, but now that the kid is trying to improve, he thinks it’s a positive thing that should be encouraged, not discouraged.

”I know, Dad, you don’t need to interfere in this matter. I have my limits.” An Hao glared at her father, the implication conveyed without needing to say it.

She was blaming her father for meddling again.

Realizing this, An Shuchao closed his mouth sullenly and didn’t say another word.

”Sister, you don’t need to feel troubled. I know I only have myself to blame.”

”Let’s see! We can talk about it when there’s an opportunity.” An Hao didn’t close the door on the matter.

She decided to observe An Hui for another year or two. If he truly changes for the better, she would be willing to use some personal connections to help this cousin join the military.

”Thank you, Sister!” An Hui was overjoyed. No matter what, his plan had already made some progress.

At least he had gained their goodwill here.

The next step was to find a suitable opportunity to infiltrate the Ning Family. This way, getting some secrets from them shouldn’t be particularly difficult.

”Wait.” An Ping extracted a question from these words, ”You said there’s a girl you like? Who is it? Tell us!”

The image of a face as beautiful as a peach flashed before An Hui’s eyes, causing his heart to race inexplicably.

Seeing him distracted, An Ping urged again, ”Spit it out, Hui!”

”No. No one.” An Hui didn’t plan to reveal the name just yet.

He himself wasn’t sure how he felt, but ultimately he still thought now wasn’t the right time.

”Still saying there’s no one, your eyes are practically floating away.” An Ping teased him with a smile, ”Don’t keep it a secret; tell us. Maybe we can help you!”

”Really, there’s no one.”

”Alright, stop bugging him. Let’s talk about you first.” An Hao diverted the topic down another path, ”If you like someone, say you like them. At least make some contact, pursue a little! Being so secretive is not cool at all.”
