Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1902: Chapter 1903: You Don’t Trust Me

Hong Mei frowned, her expression seemed somewhat displeased: ”Captain Tian, it feels like you don’t trust me, so you keep many things from me, not telling me.”

”Not at all, you’re overthinking it.” Tian Niu quickly replied.

”I know you all have signed secret agreements for these missions. I don’t want to know what missions you’re carrying out, but seeing your wife and you living apart, I really feel sorry for her... I’m asking these things purely from a woman’s perspective, do you really have to hide them from me?” Hong Mei said with a face full of grievance.

”I didn’t mean it that way. I meant... ah... no matter how I explain, it seems wrong.” Tian Niu hurriedly tried to clarify, realizing he couldn’t explain it clearly.

Hong Mei said nothing, quietly watching Tian Niu as he grew anxious.

After being anxious for a while, Tian Niu ultimately decided to be honest with Gan Tian: ”I’ll tell you then, this is a secret mission, you’re absolutely right, the leadership above is very attentive to this matter.

Our battalion was pulled in just to guarantee the security of this secret and prevent any leaks. Because it could affect the future of the nation or the terrains of future battlefields, we must keep confidentiality. Gan Tian, you’re a soldier too, I hope you understand my difficulties! With espionage activities so rampant now, we have to be extra cautious, don’t you think?”

Hong Mei didn’t expect Tian Niu’s mouth to be so tight-lipped; he looked simple and naïve, yet he couldn’t be deceived at all.

When it comes to principles and confidential content, he wouldn’t reveal a single bit.

”You’re not wrong.” Even though he felt angry inside, outwardly, he still pretended to be happy, ”Captain Tian, hearing you say that makes me very happy too! It seems there’s really a reason the leadership handed this task to you.”

”Gan Tian, if you truly think that, then I’m relieved!” Tian Niu awkwardly scratched his head, ”I was afraid you’d be angry.”

”Why would I be angry? I just felt like you didn’t trust me. After all, we’re comrades.” Gan Tian said.

”I definitely trust you. But due to confidentiality regulations, I must remember them! Since the leadership entrusted this mission to me, I can’t betray their trust, right?” Tian Niu said.

”Hmm.” Hong Mei nodded, ”Let’s go, I’ll take you to see your wife.”

All along the way, Hong Mei’s thoughts were restless.

If these weapons won’t be developed for another two or three years, then she would face even more problems.

If she couldn’t get promoted by then, then retiring would just be a year away.

She had managed with great difficulty to remove Gan Tian, successfully replacing his identity and infiltrating the military.

If she retires, wouldn’t she waste a golden opportunity?

But with things reaching this point today, Hong Mei thought there weren’t many retreats left for her.

Cang Lang would definitely demand her to complete the mission at all costs, she couldn’t afford to report back, faced with emergencies, she had priority sovereignty.

So in an instant, Hong Mei already planned the next step.

To obtain the core secrets, now the biggest breakthrough point is Tian Niu.

If she cannot successfully be promoted next year, then there is a good shortcut.

That would be to replace Gu Shuangshuang and become Tian Niu’s wife.

This way, she could become a military spouse, staying long-term beside Tian Niu, remaining in this unit.
